View Full Version : ESPN: 2010 NFL schedule set to be released April 20 (MET)
adam@section118

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5087353
The NFL will officially announce its 2010 schedule Tuesday, the league said Wednesday.
The schedule release, which increasingly has become treated like a national holiday, will be released at 7 p.m. ET.
The release of this year's schedule was delayed as the NFL considered whether to put more divisional games toward the end of the season.
Commissioner Roger Goodell has been concerned about teams that already have clinched division titles tanking games at the end of the season to rest their players for the playoffs. He wants all 17 weeks of the season to have competitive games.
The result of that effort will be revealed Tuesday, two days before the start of the NFL draft in New York.
ESPN will cover the schedule release live with a SportsCenter Special, beginning at 7 p.m. ET Tuesday on ESPN2.

I actually do not understand all the hype and the reason to televise the schedule, but I am not opposed to it either.

Not to be a buzzkill, but this **** has gotten ridiculous. We already know who all our opponents are gonna be anyway. It's just for ratings, it's the same way with the draft and the Pro Bowl. They're waaayyy overdoing this IMO. But I'm still gonna watch it like the sucker that I am though. :D

I'd love to know how they plan to accomplish this. If the 14-1 Colts are playing the 6-9 Texans in week 17, does he really think the Colts will treat that as a meaningful game just because they're in the same division with Houston?

Philly just hosted a T-Day game in 2008 so I don't think that'll happen. But it would be good to see the Skins on T-Day again, whether it being going against the Cowboys in the 4 pm slot (we're overdue for such a game) or be included in the night game.

The Jets have the thanksgiving day night game. Part of the "settlement" for the Giants opening the new stadium. At least that's the rumor.
So the only way the Skins play on Thanksgiving is if it's at Dallas.

I think they started the 7 pm thing last year. Before then it seemed it would be released in early afternoon.
But its not something you are going to have to watch. The full schedule is going to be available everywhere (including on here) at 7 pm.
I remember listening to 980 last year as the Sports Reporters were going off the air right before 7 and Czaban was salivating at how easy our early season schedule looked. Damn, how did that turn out? :(

I think it's a good idea to move more division games toward the end. The first few weeks, everyone is so amped up for the season, so all the games are big. Scheduling the first batch of division games in the middle and then the second batch at the end will make for more excitement as the playoffs near.
In theory, anyway. :)

What about at Detroit?
Somehow PFT deteremined that Detroit is going to host New England on Thanksgiving. I'm not sure how, but they determined that it had to be an AFC opponent, and that the Patriots was their only AFC opponent it could be.
And PFT said the cowpukes will host an NFC team.
I'm not sure if their logic is correct or not, we'll find out on Tuesday.

What about at Detroit?
Since both Dallas and Detroit are NFC teams, seems like they alternate every year between which team gets an AFC opponent on Thanksgiving. Since the Lions had an NFC opponent last season (Packers), they should get an AFC opponent this season, and rumors were suggesting it was going to be the Pats.
I think the Skins played the Lions on Thanksgiving back in the early 70s. God, those Lions T-Day games (all of them!) are depressing to think about.

Thanks for the enlightenment.
The Skins / Lions Thanksgiving game was in '73. I remember thinking how the running game had deteriorated from '72. Even though the Skins won comfortably, Larry Brown did not have a good day. Back then, any time Larry Brown got less than 100 yards, you felt controlled.

Going to have some BBQ and some cold beers, sit infront of the TV in my ST jersery and atleast enjoy something realated to Skins' football. It's been too long since the season ended and its going to be even longer to get the new season started!

Tim, I'm doing well. I know I will get in trouble from our scheduling makers for releasing this in advance, but the Saints will be hosting the Minnesota Vikings for our Kickoff game. It should be a great celebration in a great city.

I gave up my season tix, but this is seriously a great year for season tix holders. Out of division games will be great to go to.
Basically every home game, are against Playoff contending opponents. This HAS to be the year FEDex goes crazy, and become the true 6th man this team needs.

That's good too. A great Thanksgiving usually includes a Dallas L at home!

My thinking exactly. I love when Dallas gets pounded on Thanksgiving. The best was in 98 when Cunningham and Moss ran wild on them

Ugh. Hate Sunday and Monday Night games.
Give me a ******** of games early which I can watch on the Red Zone channel and a late afternoon Redskins game.
Funny how I used to love those night games.
Maybe it's the two decades now of dropping a ginormous deuce every single time we play one, especially in the division, that's soured me.

Seems tough but considering we were competitive in most games last season--Shanny's team could surprise some people. I think we have a chance to go 3-1 in the first 4 (remember Philly has an inexperinced QB and a very young team so they could fall back for a year or two). If we can go .500 the rest of the way we'd be 9-7 and have a shot at a wildcard birth.
and just for fun... I was thinking with the schedule out and the "divison rivalry week 17" includued what about this hypothetical scenario:
Expand the season to 17 games -- Week 18 (assuming the bye week is kept) would continue to be Rivalry week. The scheduling format would remain the same except for the 17th game. For that game (week 1)-- you would play the confrence seed that you matched (1-16) The only problem with this would be playing the same team out of division twice, but it still could be interesting. Thoughts? (you could alternate HFA, play neutral sites, or.....)
