interested to hear ppls opinions about landry still being considered a 1st rd pick. im prob in the minority in agreeing fully w/ this. i truly believe we will see the 2007 landry bc we have a real coaching staff in place.

To be fair - he isn't a complete bomb. Say's so much in the article...but I think these past two seasons. Dirty 30 is still living off of college hype "as a hard hitting safety". What we've seen (those watching intently every game) is a guy that would rather launch his body at a receiver before they head out of bounds - or - a guy hitting a receiver after they've already dropped the ball. "hard hitting" , sure. "good free safety", m'eh.
Jon Beason, though?
I'm thinking a tackle in the mold of Levi Brown, or such, would have benefited us the most over the past two seasons.

Landry+Blache=Blah
Let's see how guys who seemingly had no ceiling, Landry-Horton-Rocky-Los(even) play under a new DC.

To this point, Landry hasn't lived up to his draft position. But he still has potential. It took Sean Taylor a while to get it too.

Good article. It would be interesting do the reverse - put a new draft position on each of the players chosen in the first. Its hard to believe that anyone could be so wrong with the #1 pick. Also hard to believe he held out. Biggest bust of all time, or does Ryan Leaf still hold that position?

The guy has a $0.02 head. I hope he comes around but not at the expense of guys who really want to play vs his "potential".

I'm really pulling for Landry to get it together. I thought he would be a star after the 07 season. But as Bucky writes he still shows glimpses of being that hard hitting enforcer. Haslett can hopefully solidify that.
I hate looking back at that actual draft order and seeing that we passed on AP. Obviously RB wasnt a need for us in 07 but ugh.

Personally, it is more disturbing that they didn't drop Marshawn Lynch at all.

I'm pulling for LL too with all the criticismI think he knows it's time for him to step up.
I don't think RB was a need for vikings at the time (Taylor was coming off a 1400 yd season) they went BPA, I hope we go BPA @ 4 or trade down.

I think Slowik + Haslett will be able to convert Landry into a John Lynch mold, except better. Slowik had Lynch in the ProBowl while they were in Denver from 05-07.

Good point. Taylor didnt have the history of production that Portis had though. Also it seemed Skins DID go BPA since Safety wasn't really a big need for us at that point either.
It's hard to argue against BPA but if Okung is there at 4 and we take Berry or something like that I would be all sorts of angy.

As big a clown as what Blache was, Landry's problems are his own making, and not on any coach.
Until he matures, and fully dedicates himself to his craft, he'll never be any more than just another starting NFL safety; when he should, given his God given natural talent, be well on the way to becoming one of the best safety's of all time.
To take a fellow safety with way less natural ability; if Landry had a quarter of Reed Doughty's professional attitude and commitment, this would be a non-issue and we'd be looking on him in Ed Reed terms.
Instead, he's looked upon as a man who continues to let himself and his teammates down time and again with his lack of dedication and overall **** poor attitude. And until he grows the heck up, no amount of coaching will change things. It starts with the man himself.
A man who to date, has been a sad, sad waste of God given, natural talent.
Hail.

More surprising to me, at a time we were looking at D-line, at least we were here at ES, none of those 1st round d-linemen have made any impact.

So picking at 6, it looks like we would be the first to miss out on all of the elite players from that class. It's a pretty big step down from Willis and Revis to Beason for me, especially if you factor in we'll be running a 3-4 where Beason just doesn't really fit at all.

That is some talent there in those first 6 picks.
Damn.

They show Landry dropping from 6th to 18th, so they also agree he's not a complete bomb. Still 1st round talent, but I would say thats pretty reasonable given his inconsistent performance to date. The raiders are proving to be the perennial laughing stock of the league when it comes to making personnel decisions.
