Rather amusing, considering that I never thought he was all that in the first place.

The writing was on the wall for Cowboys WR Patrick Crayton as soon as Dallas snatched up Dez Bryant in the draft. With Bryant, Roy Williams and Miles Austin firmly planted in the team's receiver rotation -- Williams, mostly, because his massive contract makes him virtually untradeable -- Crayton's the odd man out in Big D. And so he's trying to get out of Big D as soon as possible.
According to Calvin Watkins of ESPNDallas, Crayton has decided to skip the Cowboys' voluntary offseason workouts in hopes of coaxing a trade.
Last week, after Bryant's selection at No. 24 overall, the Cowboys reportedly started shopping both Crayton and fellow backup WR Sam Hurd.
Crayton, 31, has played his entire six-year career in Dallas, but expressed a desire for more playing time. Last season, he caught 37 balls for 622 yards and five touchdowns while playing in all 16 regular-season games and starting six times.
Crayton's contract runs through next season -- he's on the books for $2 million in 2010 and $2.5 million in '11.
Given the choice, Dallas might prefer to move Williams, especially given the similarities between his game and Bryant's. But his deal is worth about $29 million over the next four seasons, making it highly unlikely that the Cowboys could find a suitor.

Thats info is a few days old. Crayton's agent has since come out and clarified they have not asked for a trade but Crayton would like the team to clarify his role. He said he wants to stay in Dallas but if the team has decided he is not in the team's plans and they plan to trade him, he would like to be traded sooner rather than later. He has also stated he will show up to all the mandatory team functions.

Oh, so he's not asking for a trade per se, but he's saying that if they're willing to trade him, he'd rather have it done as soon as possible. Okay, that's very different. :ols:

Actually it's very different. He has not insisted the team trade him and plans no holdout until they do. He and his agent know they shopped him around in the later rounds of the draft so naturally he wants to know if the team plans to keep him or not. He came out and said he wants to remain in Dallas but if they plan on trading him, he hopes its sooner rather than later. To me theres a big difference in a player demanding to be traded and one that wants to know whether his team still wants him or not. It will play out in the next few months. If he actually does holdout from mandatory team activities then I will consider him demanding to be traded.

How is what you said any different than what was stated in the article in the OP? lol...
"Crayton would like the team to clarify his role."
"Crayton's the odd man out in Big D."
"...if the team has decided he is not in the team's plans and they plan to trade him, he would like to be traded sooner rather than later."
"he's trying to get out of Big D as soon as possible."

Its actually from the same date. I think his agent immediately came out to deny the claims of Crayton demanding a trade as soon as the stories hit the papers.

Nowhere in the article did it say he was demanding to be traded.
All you really did was apply "agent-speak" to the situation lol :ols:...

All of those quotes are pure speculation. The team has not said he is the odd man out. Crayton has said he wants to stay in Dallas not that he wants out as soon as possible. Crayton has also said he is not staying away from voluntary workouts in hopes of a trade. I don't see whats soo hard to understand. Crayton has said he wants to stay in Dallas but if the team no longer wants him, he would like his situation resolved sooner rather than later. Wouldn't you? There's nothing negative about wanting that. There's a big difference between demanding a trade and wanting to know where you are going to play next year.

Asking, lobbying, demanding - whatever. It all the same to me. His agent has said they are doing none of them. They simply want clarification. The article that was posted here is nothing but a bunch of speculation by the writer. There are no quotes from the team or Crayton. In fact, Crayton's agent refuted much of it.

That may turn out to be very true. There has been some talk that the Chiefs were interested but I can't imagine Dallas could get anything of value in return.

I think when you draft a receiver in the 1st round and then a few days later try to trade your current #3 receiver, that qualifies as being the "odd man out" lol ...
Crayton has said he wants to stay in Dallas not that he wants out as soon as possible.
Actually, it seems that Crayton has said if the Cowboys are gonna trade him, he wants out as soon as possible. However, I highly doubt that if the Cowboys came back and said to him "Nope, we want to keep you on the roster as our #5 receiver, and we'll deactivate you for half the games this season", I highly doubt that Crayton would say "Ok, cool, as long as I get to stay in Dallas and have my role clarified!"
Crayton has also said he is not staying away from voluntary workouts in hopes of a trade.
Why IS he staying away, by the way? I obviously don't follow the Cowboys lol...is this just something he tends to do each offseason?

I never said there was anything "negative" to Crayton wanting out of Dallas for ANY reason lol...but your response seemed to tilt towards acting like there's nothing to the story in the article, when you basically confirmed it all lol :)

Just like the article, all your statements are pure speculation. I am going by the statements that come straight from Crayton and his agent. There were reports that Haynesworth was being shopped. Does that make him the odd man out now or was is simply a case of a team trying to get value for a player they feel they can do without. I didn't say there's nothing to the story. My point was just that Crayton's agent later clarified that Crayton has not asked to be traded. He simply wants clarification and if the team has decided to move on without him, he'd like that to be resolved sooner rather than later so he can move on a be ready for the season with his new team. If the team wants him back as the 5th WR, he really has no choice because he's under contract for two more years. Like I said, this will all be resolved when mandatory team activities start. If doesn't show up theh he obviously wants out of Dallas and is trying to force the team's hand. According to him and his agent, thats not the case at this time which is what the article implys.

I don't see Dallas getting much in return. However, the team who trades for PC will get a solid player. He never misses games, comes to play on Sunday and is a decent Punt returner.

Shows up to work and is decent at something. He should put that on his resume.
