we're in the process of revamping our front office. doug williams just left tampa. doug williams used to be a super-bowl winning redskins qb. bruce allen loves doug williams. there's been chatter for months that doug williams would be coming here.

Yeah, his tweets have been getting on my nerves. Out of the blue he'll say something random like:

From an #NFL (http://twitter.com/search?q=%23NFL) source ..The #Redskins (http://twitter.com/search?q=%23Redskins) are doing 'everything they can' to make a trade for Haynesworth happen, no matter what they say publicly 12:05 PM May 10th (http://twitter.com/Russellmania09/status/13736870657) via web

It could be a sensitive source at the moment. It could also just be that nothing is finalized so he doesn't want to say "Redskins interested in Player X" because then if it falls through people think he's full of crap even if his rumor was true. However in that case he should just keep his mouth shut entirely.

He's just trying to be the first to mention a rumor in an attempt to gain credibility/publicity. If this develops into an actual story some readers will remember that this guy mentioned it first. Then they will visit his twitter or read his articles or whatever more often hoping to get the next bit of info early. He's just doing his job and trying to get readers.

I am one of those people...the difference is I want someone to actually speculate on a rumor.

There's a difference between:

a) I'm hearing that the Redskins might trade Albert Haynesworth and
b) I'm hearing something but I won't give any details.

I'm seeing a lot of "OJ Atogwe is a playmaker" posts, and I don't understand it. He's played on a ****ty team for the majority of his career, and has been routinely beat in coverage during the games that I've seen him play him in, not to mention the highlight reel of him being godsmacked by Ladanian Tomlinson. I'm sorry but I do not think we need him on this team. It kind of reminds me of when Dre' Bly was a FA and all of a sudden, he was a shutdown corner, when he was getting routinely smoked in STL, and failed in Denver.

I haven't seen him get beat all that much, but if he has, you gave part of the reason right there--"****ty team for the majority of his career." Most safeties who play on horrible teams get beat more often. When the entire defense in front of you is getting torn up and burned nearly every week, you're gonna be getting a lot of one-on-ones and bad angles coming your way. No one's saying he's a perennial Pro Bowler, but he's been consistently solid over the last 4 seasons, he's not old, doesn't have an injury history, and is good for a few picks a year. I don't see any reason we SHOULDN'T go after him. Someone doesn't have to be an All Pro for them to be worth going after. Now if a bidding war gets going for him, forget it. But otherwise, adding Atogwe would give us a sick nasty group of safeties.

Tell that to Arch Deluxe, who " made plays" while he was there i STL, then we paid him handsomely, only to see him providing gatorade to the players on the bench. There are countless other times when a DB had a " great" season as far as stats go, get paid, then tank it, it's a problem we don't need to deal with IMO.

I too think it's DW. I'm not sure if it was to save face or what but DW's interview made it sound like DW requested to be let go so he could move on to other opportunities.

Either he got canned and is trying to save face or he reconsidered the Redskins gig or another offer was brought to his attention. I'm betting he's coming to the Skins.

Otherwise maybe it is T.O. LOL. He wasn't in their plans a couple of weeks ago cause they wanted a second look at what we had. Maybe after the last camp they reconsidered.

Landry in his first 3 years has 3 interceptions and 4 forced fumbles. You can actually make it 5 ints if you count the playoff game against the seahawks but atogwe as far as I know has never sniffed the playoffs.

I will say this. Those stats can be skewed when you look at the varying levels of competition to to division strengths of the NFC east and NFC west.

On top of that, weren't the rams pretty good while arch was there?

Atogwe and arch aren't even comparable.

Arch fell off because he had a back injury that he never recovered from. We also had somewhat egotistical coaches that thought they could mask his coverage deficiencies. It was never an issue of him getting paid and mailing it in. Back injuries can be tough.

He is really a complete nobody. "Hack" might be too good of a term for him. He's just a beat reporter for a radio station that markets itself with a clear agenda, and he consistently looks to fill it with his "reports."

The worst is when he tries to talk X's and O's. It's almost as if his version of football is played on an electric board.

Here's another possibility. I said POSSIBILITY.

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Shawne Merriman's decision to change agents could hasten a trade of the three-time Pro Bowl linebacker.

The report said Merriman's dismissal of Tom Condon and pending agreement with David Dunn came after three draft-weekend trades fell through in large part because of Condon's high demands for a long-term contract for Merriman.

Merriman is a restricted free agent who was given the highest tender by the Chargers, who have no plans to give him a long-term deal. The Saints and two other teams tried to acquire him last month during the draft, according to the report. Although a deal was discussed past the preliminary stages in all three cases, the talks fell apart because terms could not be reached on a long-term deal. The Chargers were asking for a first-round pick in return.

Absolutely not.

If we were in the market for an OLB, we would've gone for Peppers, Porter, Burgess or Adalius Thomas -- the latter two of which are still on the market -- and we wouldn't have had to give up anything.

I'd understand if it were a player for player swap, and to be perfectly honest, I wouldn't mind that if it meant getting a guy that could help our team (transition to the 3-4).

My objection comes at what I bolded in my quoting of the original article, that the Chargers wanted a FIRST ROUNDER(!!!!!) in exchange for Merriman.

For a guy who has been in two controversies (PEDs, Tila Tequila), banged up and turned in nothing but lackluster years after he led the league in sacks a few years ago, anything more than a 3rd rounder, in terms of draft compensation, for Merriman would make any team balk.

I agree...I would not give up a first rounder either...but I could see a trade ...a player we want to get rid of (makes too much money, want to unload contract) for a player we see fitting within our team...JMHO

106.7 is the worst collection of sports minds in the history of radio. The junkies continue their slide with hours of meaningless banter. Mike Wise loves to "stir the pot" with his commentary. And then we get the rest of the Special Ed class with lavar and dukes. Dukes is essentially nutered by LaVar (who holds the ultimate trump card). Finally we have Holden Kutchner and these other ass clowns.
I'm all for opinionated sports radio, provided they have expertise in the subject matter. These guys are a bunch of no talent hacks, that some how found a nitch and are never going to leave.
I found WTOP to be a much better option in the AM. I'd rather listen to traffic reports, then hear EB from the junks ramble on about how "Ovechkin is the 4th best player in the league" or how "Lebron is overrated."

Chris Russel…I’ve never heard of the guy (and I’m sure most 'Skins fans don’t).

Redskins + "big name" = Something that is very feasible to happen at ANYTIME.

(little known journalist/talk show host/whatever he is) + ("Redskins Big Name Move") = Guarantee of having many more tune in to hear his b.s.

Jason LaCanfora was the Washington Post’s Redskins "Outsider" for the last 2-3 years during his time there, yet he was able to maintain his job (and even advance his career in sports journalism…currently being an eyesore on NFL Network…talk about face for radio….but I digress…).

Bottom line: All you have to do is write bull**** articles / blogs about the Snyder-Owned, universally hated Redskins, cite some random, 'unnamed sources’ to back your b.s. up, and NFL Network hires you.

[BTW, before anyone tries to defend LaCanfora and his 'unnamed sources,' the fact that he was the only person 'reporting' that there was NO WAY that the redskins would be able to sign Haynesworth & stay under the cap (only to look like the biggest idiot), then turn around the next year, and make such a definitive statement on the NFL Network that AH WILL BE TRADED on draft day (making him look like a total dumbass by that point), discredits all his bull****, & his supposed 'unnamed sources']
