View Full Version : NFL Sunday Ticket 2010 - Free HD This year

I have been checking other forums about the 2010 Sunday Ticket deals and it looks like the HD Superfan package is no longer an extra cost... it is included in the Entire Package.. problem is the package is $299 or $315 depending on which payment plan you use. At least you wont have to pay the extra $100 for the Superfan anymore.. but it is still freaking expensive.

I have received big discounts in the past by calling and complaining about the costs - last year I only paid $150 for everything. I hope to work that deal again.

Any other Direct TV customers work a deal yet? It may be too early... let us fellow out of market Skins fans know what may work or not....

I did see one post on a site where a guy claimed he received a $240 credit for Free HD ($10 a month for 24 months) b/c they are matching Dish Networks free HD offer - but you have to complain about it.

**Update: I called today (6/9) about the "Free HD Offer for Exising Customers" (I said it exactly like that) and they set me up with the deal for $10 off for 24 months, no problem. I then asked about Sunday Ticket and was transfered to the Sunday Ticket Cust Service Reps... She was very cool and after I explained that I couldnt afford the deal this year... she offered me the Ticket for $240 - I was firm (but nice) and said I spent allot each month and is there anything else she could do for me... she checked my account (I spend about $135 per month) and she offered the Ticket for $30/month for 6 months or $180 total.
I paid $150 last year - so I am pretty happy with the deal I made. If anything you should be able to get the free HD offer.
Good luck!

Great to hear the SuperFan is included now! How did you hear about this?

I'd also be interested in hearing if anyone was able to work out a deal.

Thanks!

man, I just paid the entire year of Sunday Ticket up front in hopes of getting free Superfan. That's how I've worked it since I got HD a few years ago.

The HD maybe free but I'd be surprised to learn they're giving away the RedZone w/ SundayTicket.

It helps if you're on a month to month contract bc you have leverage. Just make them note that you're a returning customer, etc.

They used to advertise Superfan for free if you agreed to early renewal of your Sunday Ticket w/ monthly payments starting in March.

All I do is call and complain. Last year I got the package for free and had to pay for the superfan. Hopefully, I won't have to call because the superfan will be free.

Told them I'm a long time customer and was disappointed that they were giving discounts to new customers rather than taking care of their existing ones. They agreed that I had been an excellent customer with them and in the end they gave me Superfan for free and knocked the total price down to $150.

I've had both...I prefer Dish.

- Better DVR options (one box can control two tvs)
- RedZone Channel
- Better customer service
- Cheaper

I liked them both better than the cable choices in Missouri, though.

I've had had the ticket and superfan HD package for the last 3yrs. I've had the ticket for 5. I gotta try that or at least something. I live in Jacksonville. The sports bars are horrible. I've been paying full price the whole time. If it works great but if not regardless I gotta have it. My whole week is planned around plopping down on my couch in my house and watching the game in HD. There's nothing like it. My dad had dish. Then he came and visited. The day he got back home in VA. He switched to directv. Cable isn't even an option, EVER.

It's also more expensive than cable. Dish with Red Zone would be much cheaper and it has all the channels I actually watch :ols: I don't know. I don't even know if I want to change quite yet.

I wish this package was available on FIOS, or via the internet. There are a bunch of teams I'd like to follow this year.

Too much money. I wish they would come up with a "#1 Fan" package. Where you can watch all regular season games of your favorite team instead of getting every single game of every single team. Most of us only watch a few anyways... seems like an awfule waste on bandwidth. Especially for us guys out of the local coverage market.
Instead, charge a lesser fee, like one third, or around 100 bucks.
While I realize they would worry about losing revenue to the plethora of fans downgrading their packages, I am sure the new customers signups would outweigh it by a landslide. Imagine a dedicated channel for each team. Talk about fantasy football...

A little off topic, but I know last year, if you lived in Manhattan, you could get the streaming service to your computer even if you didn't have direct tv. Any of you direct tv owners know if they are doing that again this year? The website for the service is still for 2009.

I was thinking the same. Charge $100 for each team that you want to follow and you get those teams channels.

Make packages like 2 teams = $200.
3 teams = $275
4 teams = $325
5 teams = $350
Each additional team after that is +$15.

Or something like that. I'd only have the need for one team... But still.

I've been a customer of Directv since 1996, and suggested your ideas to them many times (got a free-view of movies because of my suggestion for 3 months) and they have never seen the marketing advantages of my idea. I guess they must be locked in to NFL contracts with the present structure.

No one can watch all of those games per Sunday. Directv is the best but a little anal. I think they could increase their viewership if they would adopt our ideas.

Besides, who wants two dishes on their house, lmao every time I see that configuration. Holy _ _ _ _!

Truth be told, I like your idea. Granted, there are a couple weekends where the available games suck and you'd like to see something else but it is outweighed by my desire to not pay another 100 bucks for something. Years ago, they said we'd be going to pay-per-view for football, anyway. Now, I don't want pay-per-view, that's something of a waste but I would like the ability to customize my package.

I agree with you, most of us just want to watch our team. Then you get the playoffs, which is national anyway. Sure, it's cool to flip around and watch some other game in the last minutes, unlike the 80s or 90s where you were shut out of the experience if they failed to switch over but is it worth the cost?

Let's take your idea further---not just a channel for your team on gameday, but you get ALL local coverage of your team, all those local shows dedicated to the Skins on that channel throughout the season (or more, if they could work that deal.) I would rather pay 120 bucks to get all SKins games guaranteed, PLUS local coverage shows (possibly even local DC Sports overall) than get everything for 299 or 250. I don't have HD and don't need it (it's the cost per month for a new box that annoys me, not the idea of it)

Superfan for free is great news - even if its really just discounted because the price of the Ticket went up.

I typically have gotten the superfan free every other year. This year I called and told them not to auto renew either one (Ticket or Superfan) in hopes they would offer something up. She said it was too early to offer anything (this was a couple of months ago) but because I canceled it someone from DirecTV will call and offer me a deal. I'm waiting. I'm a loonngg time subscriber of the Ticket but I'm sick of paying so much.

Glad to see Superfan is free even though, the price has gone up. I also noticed yesterday, that they are now charging you to watch on your comp. or phone, haha, before that was free. Now it is $10. Either way, they are going to get you.

Hell, they could even do a Divsion by Divsion NFL package. We're Skins fans, but we probably want to keep an eye on our division foes, so make an NFC East package for all NFC East games.

I have also thought of the "Redskins games" package in the past, for a lesser cost for those of us a little strapped for cash.

Not just $10.

Hell, just buy a slingbox if you want placeshifting NFL games from your DVR to a computer or smartphone.

Would be great, but then you'd have dredges like Jacksonville and Detroit ruining the fun for everyone.

1. They would probably make less money
The hardcore fans (skins, green bay, pitt, dallas, etc) would get the minimum and they'd lose money on these folks. You'd think they'd be able to pick up new customers in smaller/worse markets, but probably not enough to offset the cost of losing hardcore fans having to buy entire packages.

2. Could cause a **** storm
The bigger teams would make far more off the tv deal than the smaller market teams. An even revenue split would be even less fair than it is now.

But I hope they do it. Choice for the consumer is great.

I called and complained last year about it and they did nothing.
I talked to my neighbor and he told me they gave him an awesome deal on it and other channels so I called back again and really complained (I was nice and polite though)

I then got my entire bill reduced by X amount of percentage the HD for free and the Sunday ticket at a reduced cost.

Dont give up after the 1st call.

$300 really isnt that bad when you think about how many games you can watch.
Whats it come down to $2 a game?

$300 is way too much just to get TheRedZone Channel that Dish subscribers get for $6. That really chaps my a55. TheRedZone Channel is really all you need to enjoy a full day of NFL Action (and saving the batteries on your remote.) :-)

After 10 years of being a Sunday Ticket early bird subscriber, I canceled this year in protest. Living in Columbus, OH the past 3 years, I realized all I was watching was the RedZone Channel and the hand full of Redskins games that were NOT locally viewable in Columbus or was nationally broadcasted. $315 for that, is just not practical. I can watch the 4-5 Redskins games that are not broadcasted in Columbus, OH at a nearby bar.

In short, I would pay $315 for 4-5 Redskins game + RedZoneChannel. F-That!

If I want to re-watch it, I can download the game in full, for free (in HD) from a Torrent site a day or two later. http://forums.tenyardtorrents.com

Last year I called and told them that I heard they were offering it for cheaper to new customers. When they asked about HD I said that it was unfair to charge for HD because I already pay extra for HD on my others channels and that it was double dipping for them to do that. So they lowered my price, gave me the HD and Super Fan for free. They also gave me the Starz channel free for 3 months.

This year I think my excuse to get a reduced rate will be that my team has sucked for the last 2 years and that I can't justify paying full price just to sit there and cry :ols:

Who knows... After they hear how I am a Skins fan and have had the SNFLT for 6 yrs straight, they just might give it to me for free for being such a die hard fan.:D

Thanks for the news. I haven't checked into DBSTalk for this topic yet as I do every year .. thanks for saving me the trouble. As I've said for the past three years .. I have subbed to Sunday Ticket since the 1995 season. Then, they started the HD stuff a few years back. The last two years or so, with the ever-increasing cost of the package -- when I started NFL-ST in '95, it was $119 for the whole season -- and the fact that games on HD is almost a commodity now, they SHOULD include the HD at NO charge!

Glad to see they've gotten with the program.

RedZone doesn't give you the full game though. It only shows you clips of games in which a team is in scoring position. If you our-of-towners like me want to see the full Redskins game, you need DirecTV's Sunday Ticket or you need the game on a "free" channel.

I've subbed for ST since 1995, and I also subscribe to everything else. I figure they've made ~$20,000 on me (although I go back to the days where you paid both DirecTV and USSB for programming) and I've told them so the last few times. But they also keep track of everything you say for future use. And they will also tell you "Yes. You said the same thing last year and we gave you Superfan free." Now that SF is included, that's no issue. But don't necessarily expect to get them to deal with you every year.

As I said .. I've subbed to ST for 15 years and they still don't just give it away for free just for the asking.

To be honest, I go through the list of how many TVs I have, how many channels I get and how long I have been with them. Talking nice always works better.

And of course the closer, everytime they ask if I am going to sign up again, I say sure but is there anything you do for me, like free superfan and any discounts. Again being nice I think plays a big part in it.

Don't just call and ask to get the Ticket for free or a discount. You'll get rejected more times than being successful. It's much easier to get other things for free which in the end will save you the money you're looking for. If you are still under a contract, your best bet is to threaten to cancel your HD subscription because your bill is to high. They will give it to you for free for a year. They are currently giving that away to a lot of people. The lady that gave it to me told me is does NOT extend my contract. Your real bargaining power comes when your contract is expired. Try to get as much as you can because your contract will be renewed (prolly 2 years) and that limits your bargaining power next year. While not under contract, it's not hard to get HD for a year, a new receiver and a movie channel pack for free just by threatening to switch to cable. Even if you just get the HD free, the end result is getting the ticket for under $200. You have to be stern with these people and it certainly helps the longer you've been one of their 'loyal' customers. But don't be scared to haggle...they really want to keep you as a customer.

RedZone Channel is awesome. I have FiOS so of course I can't get Sunday Ticket, but there is no point. RedZone shows all the games and shows the games that are close to a scoring play. Being in Baltimore, the Skins games aren't always on, so I watched a few games last year solely through the RedZone Channel. I tried the haggling with a DirccTV rep back in march, telling him the costs kept going up each year and to cancel my order for NFL Ticket, and he ended up giving me the HD free, but by the looks of it I need to do more haggling..lol...
You'd think after having NFL Ticket for 9 years they would be more apt to work with you!
But it was kinda neat to watch the unruly fans in Cleveland chunking **** at the refs awhile back, and seeing it live gave me alot better view of all the items being thrown, so flipping channels from time to time does pay off...
But my idea of selective game watching would be to pick whichever game{s} you wanted to watch and click the box along side of the match-up, since their system is interactive, it wouldn't be much of a problem to configure.

Go with FiOS you won't regret it. DirecTV is nice because of Sunday Ticket, but its so expensive. Just get the RedZone Channel and you'll be set. Might not get to see the whole game, but you'll see the important parts and its ALOT less money.

I kind of want it back now that Shanahan is the coach, but I am trying to keep costs down these days and I am tired of haggling with DTV. The Ticket costs have gone up between $10 and $20 each year for a long time. It went up $15 to $315 this year but the Superfan is included... last year you had to pay $99 more for a total of $399 for the ticket and superfan... you ARE getting superfan free this year. If you dont have a HDTV then you would still pay the $315.

I dont think anyone is forcing you to pay for anything... just cancel.

I will never pay the full price and they have been great working with me on the cost the last few years. I have found that being nice works best.

Last years price for me was also $149.94 after they gave me a $20 credit per month for 6 months plus free Superfan (taking another $100 of my plate)
This year, they say Superfan is free, so we don't have to pay extra for HD games, but I know we now lose the ability to watch the games on the internet for free; that now costs like $50....... They have also increased the base price from $44.99 a month for 6 months to I think $49.99 a month for 7 months now haven't they? I could have sworn they upped the price $5 per month and tacked on another month.
As long as you call and complain, you can definitely get some credits thrown your way. From experience, they only allow (2) reoccurring credits that appear on your bill for more then one month; the key is to get them to do a bulk credit on one month's bill. I haven't tried the "free HD" credit for 24 months, but I will try to get that plus another reoccurring credit to go with it (like another $10 one) for 6 or 12 month and then get them to give me the same price like last year of $149.94 or the most I will then pay is 15% over that, since that seems like the uppage they have done this year, otherwise, no more NFL Sunday Ticket for me.... too darn expensive, especially in this economy.
Also, if the first level response people aren't getting you what you need, get to another level or threaten to cancel EVERYTHING which then gets you to their "Customer Retention" area.
And yes, try to be nice......

I liked them both better than the cable choices in Missouri, though.

Santana - who do you have in Columbia? I'm just down the road in Springfield, we have Mediacom here and they SUCK *****

I've had had the ticket and superfan HD package for the last 3yrs. I've had the ticket for 5. I gotta try that or at least something. I live in Jacksonville. The sports bars are horrible.

BgMase - what sports bars have you been too in Duval? I lived in Jacksonville a few years back, I loved Sneakers in Jax Beach, but I also know that one of the Gators near where I used to live (I lived off Southside near the Avenues Mall) there was huge group of rowdy Skins fans that watched every game - that's where I always went once I found it considering I moved down there knowing no one...

Also, check out the new deals they give to "new" customer for Free HD for life....... I pay $10 a month for HD!

I called in asking for this credit and they can give you a $10 credit for 24 months but just be aware.... if you have reocurring credits already (like 1 or 2 already) they won't do it for you because "the system" won't let them. you also have to sign-up for Auto Bill pay too.

Well, in getting frustrated with them, I told the second-line person already that I was fed up and I wanted to speak to someone in the cancellation dept (I knew I wasn't cancelling but they didn't) and boom! I not only got the $10 credit for 24 monjths for the HD package, bt they also gave me another $10 credit per month for 12 months too......

Next week, I will call to get the $300 NFL Sunday Ticket reduced or I will cancel DTV all together (wink-wink)..... Why do they put you through all this hassel when this shizzle is getting way too expensive to justify having?!?!?!?!?!

Thanks for this thread guys. In my life I usually step in someone's chewing gum but in this particular case the football gods looked favorably on me. Here's what I wedged... NFL Sunday Ticket all games in HD, Red Zone, Game Mix, Shortcuts. That Shortcuts is cool, it lets me watch any finished game in 30 minutes or less (no commercials). Player stats for fantasy fb, realtime fantasy tracker and all this for $50. Phone, highspeed internet & directv 200 channels & nfl sunday ticket for $135. This is though Quest. Yes !!

There's one thing I do hate about this, the volume goes so high on commercials. I always listen to the game loud, those commercials are going to get me kicked out of my own house. Wish there was a remedy for that!

Hey did you you guy see that NFL remote from DT for 22 Bucks Pre programed with your Favorite teams. Wonder if it comes in Burgundy and Gold.. LOL..

I ended up getting $20 off a month for 6 months on Sunday Ticket (making it $180 total) and also recieved the $10 off per month for 24 months for HD.

I've had both...I prefer Dish.

- Better DVR options (one box can control two tvs)
- RedZone Channel
- Better customer service
- Cheaper

I liked them both better than the cable choices in Missouri, though.

Sorry to chime, but that is intriguing. I don't want to sign up for two years, but $47/mth for four months with Red Zone sounds doable. That plus the radio stream might be enough to keep me from hitting the bar. I usually end up catching a game or two a year on the Internet steam a year anyhow. Kornheiser wouldn't stop talking about Red Zone Channel on his radio show.

Thanks for the 411.

EDIT: Does Red Zone include preseason?

That is what I am wondering, logic would be that you wait until the last possible moment and schwing a deal. This year I think I am willing to go back to a Sports Bar to watch the games(wink-wink), though Hurricane wings has that box so you can listen to your game and I know the bartender. I wonder if DTV can complete with that? :ols:

I called yesterday about the Every Room DVR...you can watch any movie on your DVR on any tv in the house.... you have to get some equipment installed for $149 and its $3 per month extra. I hesitated b/c I didnt want to spend any more cash this year on cable.
I asked if there was anything cheaper... she paused and looked at my account and came back with an offer for $49 total and $3 per month.
I will give it a shot... only problem is getting it installed b/c the DTV techs suck.

Pretty happy with DTV lately. Gave me a good deal on the ticket and free HD for at least 2 years.

Made the call.... When the automated system asks you what your call pertains to, say "Cancel" then you'll be transferred to the retention department. I told the rep that I was aware of current deals available for long-time DirecTv subscribers for the NFL Sunday Ticket and HD service. Immediately told me he would give me $10 off HD service for 24 months. This is in response to Dish's Free HD offer. Then, I asked about discounts for the NFL Sunday Ticket. Said he could give me $10 off for 6 months. I bucked and said it was still too expensive and asked if that was the best they could offer... He said best offer would be $20 off for 6 months, and I took it. Basically, makes the Sunday Ticket $180 for the season... This offer I received is the same as some others on here were offered... I think this is about the best deal anyone can expect. So when and if you call, don't take the $10 off the Ticket, make sure they give you the $20/month for 6 months. BTW, my July 20th bill will be the first with the Ticket charge, so they're billing you July/Aug/Sept/Oct/Nov/Dec for the NFL package. Good Luck!!

If you wait until late August NFL Sunday Ticket will be FREE! (well sort of for new subscribers). This has been the case for many years. You basically order their premier package for $69.99/mo. and get HBO, SHO, Cinamax, etc for free for 3-5 months and they throw in NFL Sunday Ticket. After the 3-5 months you will be billed $99.99 for the premier package but if you dont care for those movie channels change your plan to the lower one.

Now for current subscribers you can wait for this deal too. There are two ways to do it: 1. Call and ask to cancel your service. They will do many attempts to keep you as a customer. Dont take the $10-20 off a month offer. Just say you're switching to comcast or whatever. As a last attempt they will offer current subscribers the premier package + NFL sunday ticket for $69.99 just like the promotion deal for new subscibers.

2. Cancel your current subscription (penalty will be based on pro-rated amount) but sometimes you can negotiate the price. If you are not under contract even better. Then just re-subscribe as a new customer and get the promotion deal. You might have to fork out extra $$ for the cancellation penatly but you save in the end. Ususally the cancellation fee is less than the $180 which is the price for NFL Sunday Ticket (after their reductions) plus you get movie channels for free for $69.99 for 3 or so months. Keep in mind last year they gave 5 months free for the movie channel so you will get more for your money that way as well.

Called them this afternoon and got the $20 off per month and the 2 year HD discount. The first tech I talked to was a Redskins fan! LOL We talked about this year for a while and then he said "Let me hook you up with the ACE dept." Who knows what that means but apparently they have a separate group that handles this sort of thing. He transferred me to a woman from ACE and she was a delight. I got her laughing right away by telling her I needed to justify the cost to my wife. (yeah, there is a shred of truth in that...) She immediately said that there were two discounts available one for $10 per month and one for $20 and that I better get the $20. She laughed as she said it. I was smiling too. :D

I'm pumped. I love being able to watch the other teams in the division and also love the shortcuts of all the games. I will have a new HD projector for this season and can't wait for things to get going!

I've always been able to negoiate Superfan for free. However, even so I think the Sunday ticket has gotten too expensive in the renegotation with the NFL.

Re: Directv vs Dish. No comparision. I've had both and Dish was inferior, at least at the time I had it which was several years ago. I will never do Dish again for Sat. Directv is still the only place you can get Sunday ticket. If you are not local to your sport team that is a big selling point.

One more item about Directv and their negotiation: they will negotiate but it comes at a price. Once they renegotiate your terms (ie- give you a break) they will reup your contract for 2 years. I've been hoping something better would come to my neighborhood (ie- Uverse) and don't want to be stuck in the 2 year contract.

Okay so Directtv NOW as this offer available like I said. $59.99 per month for their Premium Package: NFL Sunday ticket plus 5 months free for HBO, Starz, Showtime, Cinemax, Sportspack and probably 80-90% off all the channels they offer except pay per view of course (free HD as well and DVR upgrade).

So for $59.99/month + taxes and fees you are getting NFL sunday ticket, movies channels and the premier package. A lot better than just getting $20 off of sunday ticket on top of what you pay for service and I'm sure you're not paying $59.99 for the premium package and 5 months free movie channels.

I have had Dish, Directv, Comcast, and another local cable company and I must say that Directv is bar none the best in every important category involving television. Customer service, picture, channel package options, everything is better with Directv.

I had Directv for 15 years and just switched to Dish. Dish is as good as DTV. Picture and sound exact same. Dish is cheaper. And Redzone is included in the sports package. If you want to keep telling yourself Directv is better to justify the extra money. You go right ahead.

Last year we got the package 59.99 that included the NFL package for that season and signed a 2 year contract. Just got my new bill for the Sunday ticket. It is alot of money, but where we live we would hardly ever get a game of the Redskins and we figured by the time we went to the bar where it is usually loud with the Vikings, Green Bay, and Bears fans here in the Midwest we would have spent that much money when you look at the number of games. I think it all depends on where you live and what is available. Maybe next season I will be doing some bargaining of my own when I have had the service longer.

I called on yesterday and received a Sunday Ticket for Free. They billed me $299.98 and then put a credit on for $299.98.. The lady I spoke to was very nice, I just told her that my wife wanted to switch to Time Warner cable because she didn't believe in paying such a high price for Sunday Tik. She said "well what if I can cut the price in half and bill you $29.99 for six months" I said it sounds good but I think I'll pass. She then said "well you've been a loyal customer and always pay on time, hold on and let me speak to my supervisor to see what we can do for you" she came back 1min later and said "we're golden I'm going to bill you the entire price and then place a credit on right after I bill you"... Needless to say I was ecstatic and will be watching Sunday Tik absolutely free and they didn't ask me to renew my contract or add years to it..I really was considering switching but now I'm a loyal DirectTV customer!!!!

I am telling you in this economy things are really falling apart. I can tell you that Verizon is now charging for their HD packages and of course the entry level package does not include the NFL network at all! They have removed a few of the other sports channels. I guess this is an effort for the cable and satellite providers to protect their sports packages and sports tiers. I would have just paid for the sports channels, but then they make you get all these other channels that I don't want.

Thanks congress for not passing a choice in channel selecting! Really appreciate that.

I just happened to notice this thread and wanted to figure this out. I have been a Directv customer for 10+ years but have never had the Sunday ticket. I have been going to a lot of the games in the past so I was never to home to watch it.

This year will be different so how do I get these deals as a current customer? I'm confused about the free HD. Is that for all HD or just the Sunday ticket? In other words, do I start off by calling to get $10 off my current HD package and then ask about the Sunday ticket? And one person said they got it for free. I would be happy if I got it for half or close to it. Any help for a current long time customer that has never ordered it would be greatly appreciated!

Sidebar question, with DirecTV, is it worth it to get the protection plan that goes with it or not?

I spoke with Direct TV today and was able to get a small credit on the Sunday Ticket. I am a relatively new customer to Direct TV so I was already getting a lot off of the monthly bill. I was able to get Sunday ticket for 5 payments of 44 dollars. I know others have gotten better deals but since I had over a year and a half left on my contract there was little incentive to work with me. The termination fee would have been 400 dollars if I terminated service.

I think the protection plan is worth it. It costs you money per month but you don't have to pay anything if they send a tech out to repair problems. My mom didn't have the protection plan and her service went out in two of her rooms she had to pay the tech fees when they came out to fix it. She lives in an area where there is only direct tv or dish (very rural so no cable).

I was able to get it for 5 payments of $35.99 or $179.99.

I have been getting the ticket since 1998 but this year, I was not going to get it because I have season tickets. I had to give up something to finance it. So, I called after getting the letter to let them know to cancel, and she kept dropping it until at this point I figured, I am going to 6 of 8 home games, home for 11 weeks, only $16 a week.

I am also glad they throw in SuperFan. They pretty much had to, I mean given a choice between watching a high def game on local channel or standard def game, you always pick the high def, even if it is something like Rams at Seabags.

Yeah, but how much are you committed to? 24 months of the top package?

I've been slowly trying to figure out the cheapest way to add the Red Zone channel with Dish (http://www.satelliteguys.us/dish-network-forum/219906-cheapest-way-get-dish-during-nfl.html). That's a big step down from Sunday Ticket, which I used to get, but I think it'll be just good enough to keep me from buying $10 burgers and $3 Miller Lites at the bar.

The best deal I've been offered -- again from a 3rd party (ae-tx.com) like your D* deal -- is $35 for the receiver after rebate, BYO dish, no activation fee, and $52/month for their 120+ package plus Red Zone. This is using the Dish "Flex" pre-paid system so that I can sign up for four months and then cancel -- then sign up again next season.

Re: Red Zone -- I've seen it receive "Now that I've tried it, I'll never go back" reviews here, at the Satellite Guys forum I linked above, and from Kornheiser on his DC radio show. Between the Skins games that sneak in on free TV, even down in the Carolinas, and the free radio feed, I think the Red Zone will be a big step up.

Figured I'd share my experience.

Saw my new monthly bill and immediately freaked when it was a whopping $210 dollars. I have the premier package but decided to ditch the ticket this year since I was no longer willing to foot a bill that large.

When I called up they notified me that HD was free this year, but I insisted that I was no longer willing to pay for the ticket. Once I said my peace the lady then offered me the ticket at a discount of $20 per month. That's $29.99 per month for a total of $179.94.

Much more manageable, but while I've had her make a note for the amount on my account I think I am going to skip it this year.

24 month contract, and after the 5 months I can switch to whatever tv plan I want, which will still be about $55 a month. :beavisnbutthead: Hate much?

No hating intended. Just sounded like that a commitment would be part of that plan. Otherwise I would have been interested myself!

The whole cable/dish thing is a mess. I've noticed that the best deals (new equipment, add-ons like ST or HD, etc) with Dish and DirecTV tend to go to those with monthly bills at the retail rate that are at or over $120, who they try to keep happy. (Which, duh, makes sense.)

What ever happened to the good ol' days of getting a "hot" card or that 2 ft. long stick of filters and getting EVERYTHING free? lol...

Just got the $20 off for 6 months for the NFL package and free HD for a year. I tried to go online and get the sports extra, so I can watch Training Camp Daily for the next month and said I had to upgrade to the next package since mine was no longer existed. That means going from $79 to $112...wtf? I may call again later cause I love that show. I need my TCD fix damn it!

They gave me 200 off so I paid $100 for it.

I'll take that!

Put me down as another DirectTV customer who called and received a $20 off for 6 months (from $300 to $180 total) for Sunday Ticket with HD (aka SuperFan included). They first said they could take off $10 off per month but when I said I still will need to cancel they offered another $10 off for $20 off total. SWEET!

Thanks to all who shared this info!

Sweet! I just called and complained that they auto renewed me for $300 Sunday Ticket and they transferred me to the Sunday Ticket department. The lady offered me the $20 off for 6 months. Total cost is $180 vice $300! Plus the games are all in HD.
Thanks for the info on this.

I called DirectTV and got this list of discounts from the first guy I talked to... granted I've never called and asked for a deal before either:
1. $10 off for 12 months
2. Free HD for 2 yrs = $240
3. $150 credit for Sunday Ticket ( I kept the mobile access, because I watch it for FF and even watched the Skins/Saints game from Arrowhead last yr... boy was that an awful trip back to St louis)
4. A free upgrade to the new total home DVR thing which is normally $150

Just canceled my NFL Sunday Ticket....I was thrown a discount offer of $10 off my monthly bill for 2 years and the price of the ticket would be reduced to $29.99 for 6 months, totaling $180 ($120 factoring in the $10 monthly credit/discount)

Not bad. Unfortunately, I still had to cancel it -_-

For the ones that get Sunday Ticket every year (have it renewed automatically). What is the first month that they send out a bill? I was wondering because I have yet to receive a bill for Sunday Ticket, as of now.

Hey Bub,
in the past it had started in August, but I believe now it is July for the auto-billing, that is if you are still on auto renew. Ya might wanna call up or check your bill; ***** to them that they're not automatically taking your life savings like you planned, maybe they'll discount it for ya...lol

I also got the ticket knocked down to $180 just by threatening to drop it. They also threw in the free upgrade to the whole house dvr which was hooked up yesterday. Works great and was worth the call itself.

For those of you with a HD DVR, this is a must as you can watch your recordings on any other HD receiver in the house. They also hooked up an internet connection to my boxes for on demand.

@Bubble- I was billed for the first payment on the July statement. You might want to call them and ask them what is going on

So my current bill has been about 80-90 bucks a month for the last year. My contract ran out and I called to cancel to dish and this is what they gave me:

16 dollars was added to my current bill for the sunday ticket in high def

My bill will be 60 dollars a month for the next 6 months, then after that go back to the normal 80-90 that I have been paying

So I get the Ticket in high def and the redzone channel all for free and save 30 dollars a month on my bill!!!

Thought I would bump this since were getting closer. I just made my call and got the same deal the OP got in the update. $180.00 total plus free HD for a year. He said that HD is going to be free in the near future anyway but my credit is for 12 months at $10., the discount on the ticket is $20. for six months. So yeah, I am happy again and can't wait for season. The RZ and the SuperFan are now included with the ticket btw.

Argh I recently moved and don't have much experience with this, plz help, I just got off the online chat and this doesn't sound like a deal at all to me. I dont give a crap about movie channels, all I want is my Redskin football on Sunday.

The way it was explained is that I get a package for $59.99 which includes the Sunday ticket then after the 5 months are bumped to $119 a month as its the cost of the regular premium. You can change your programming after the 5 months but you get none of the intro deals apply so say if you went to basic programming instead of the intro deal of $26.99 a month it costs you $58.99 for the remainder of the contract.
(59.99 x 5 months) + (58.99 x 19 months) = Total COST: $1420.76

So if the NFL pacakge costs $319 a month out of pocket, isn't it better for me to get the $26.99 deal for 24 months and then add the NFL ticket?
($26.99 x 24) + 319 = TOTAL COST: $966.76

I could get the basic for 2 years and assuming I pay the full price for the Sunday Ticket in both 2010 and 2011 its still cheaper than this "deal" they are offering. What gives?

Yes, this gets lost - the deal they are offering on the lower levels right now is fantastic - but, btw, you'll want to get at least Choice Extra for $34.99. If you get the very basic one you have to pay for your equipment.

Did anyone use the DTV Sunday Ticket To Go application on their phone yesterday?

I used it for the first time and it was nice, but not super awesome.

I have an EVO 4-G and the tv worked some of the time yesterday while I was in Knoxville, Tenn. Load times were very slow and I often had to reload 3-4 times bc the DTV site was so overwhelmed. The picture looks like you're streaming live video, circa 2002. It's definitely not the HD picture that DTV and Sprint advertise, but at least you get the data you need.

Note* I do not expect this app to work in any NFL stadium during a game. There's way too much demand on the local towers when you have 20,000 people trying to use their phones all at the same time.

I've trolled a few other boards ANFL this morning and it seems like a lot of people had trouble w/ DTV's ST To Go app on their phones.
