RT @RedskinsBlog Looks like Mike Furrey is wearing number 85. Wonder if he'll reach the lofty heights of Brandon Lloyd. #Redskins
At #Redskins practice, saw Willie Parker take a rep with first-team offense...Further proof that there's no RB depth chart right now.
Rex Grossman getting lot of work in practice...He threw deep to Santana Moss, covered by Kareem Moore, but pass was overthrown.
Linebacker Chris Wilson makes a nice play in #Redskins OTA: Playing in coverage, he broke up a pass across the middle to Mike Sellers.
Santana Moss appears to be full-go in practice, he is getting some reps. He had a knee scope this offseason but it appears he's recovered.
Speaking of Santana Moss, he grabbed a slant pass from Donovan McNabb. Kevin Barnes came in from behind and poked the ball loose. Fumble!

1:37 pm Coach Mike Shanahan has said he wants all his players at the voluntary workouts, but if they're not, he wants them to be in shape when they report for mandatory sessions. On Albert Haynesworth, Shanahan said, "We'll be able to tell pretty quickly whether he's in shape or not. If he's not, we'll see to it."
1:34 pm Coach Mike Shanahan said he is looking forward to next week's mandatory three-day minicamp and "the chance to get a look at some more players." One of those players will be DT Albert Haynesworth , who has missed all voluntary workouts this offseason and is upset that the Redskins want to use him at nose guard.
1:15 pm WR Santana Moss expects to thrive in this year's offense, mainly because he'll be lining up in multiple spots. The last two years, he lined up in just one spot. "Since they're moving me around this year, defenses won't know what to expect or know where I'm going," Moss said.
12:52 pm WR Mike Furrey is "excited" to be in Washington and have a chance to play for Mike Shanahan and with QB Donovan McNabb. "It's a great situation so I just want to come in, learn the playbook and be ready to go for minicamp next Wednesday," Furrey said.
12:02 pm S Reed Doughty is on the field despite breaking his right hand last Thursday. The fifth-year DB is wearing a heavily taped bandage but is working with the first team.
11:43 am New WR Mike Furrey, signed yesterday as a free agent, gives Washington another veteran WR to compete. Furrey, who was in Cleveland last year, is playing catchup but looks solid so far.
11:35 am WR Joey Galloway, working with the first team, got the better of another young CB, Carlos Rogers, getting wide open for a comeback route. QB Donovan McNabb seems to be developing a good connection with Galloway.
11:30 am QB Donovan McNabb's first pass in 11 on 11 drills is an INT to LB London Fletcher.
11:26 am Redskins are on the field for another OTA Session. Not on hand is RB Clinton Portis, LB Rocky McIntosh, S LaRon Landry and DT Albert Haynesworth.

Mandatory minicamp starts in the last week of June.
Training camp at the end of July, or so has been their tradition in the past.
By the way, I do not think that there is such a thing as a mandatory OTA per the definition by the CBA but I could be wrong.

Yes they are.
Being MIA on someone's tweets means little.
Keep in mind there is like a dozen WRs at the park (that doesn't even include the TEs).
By CBA rules, they can only work out a very limited time (the Ravens just lost a whole week of OTA workouts, in penalty, for going over their time), so there is only so many reps to go around.
Most likely, the coaches are concetrating on the new, young guys, as well as the newly brought in, older veterans, to see which ones they want to take into camp with them to compete with our established WRs.
I doubt they take all those WRs they have now into training camp.

I have very few gripes with this current administration, but this does leave me a little confused about how we can continue to hear "99% participation" comments.
Aren't there fewer than 100 total people on the roster right now? I know it's nitpicky, but it comes off as a lie. It's just as easy to say "97%" or "we're only missing 3 guys" or something like that.

I agree with you here. Although, Shanahan has had no problems letting it be known he was disappointed in AH not being here...so I'm wondering if the whole "99% participation" really is talking about everyone except those who are excused for some reason?
Idk, I find it hard to believe that Landry could have been excused for the last 3 weeks. Bogus. Maybe it was a typo that is being misinterpreted from that article?
I sure hope so. I liked the newly dedicated Laron that was talking about being a leader a month or two ago.

Yeah, I know I'm being picky...it just comes off as disingenuous to me. Like you said, maybe there is an explanation.
Overall though, the point remains that we've had fantastic participation for these voluntary workouts. So I don't want to rain on that parade!

Yeah Fat Albert doesn't show up and he's a problem child. Other players refusing to show up for their camps and want better contracts and they are just players seeking whats due them. How on earth the media let Landry not being at camp for 3 weeks slip by them is beyond me.
I had noticed it but kinda ignored it thinking the coaching staff must have let him have time off or he was injured and we didn't know it.

I wouldn't worry too much about the INT's now...OTA's is when you want them to happen, plus the reads the Shanahan's want, and the timing and chemistry between McNabb and the WR's is still a work in progress...now if by the third preseason game he's still throwing a lot of picks I will start to worry...
ABSTRACT
June-10th-2010, 10:02 PM
10:53—You may be tired of hearing this, but Larry Johnson is running hard. He’s running like a player who has something to prove. He’s running like somebody who has $9.5 million in incentives in his contract. He may not start but if these early results are indicators of future performance, Johnson will be a factor.
10:56—It was good to hear pads popping. No, the players were not wearing any pads, that’s prohibited in any activities prior to training camp. But the defensive linemen were working with a piece of hardware with a padded rail that gave them work on warding off blockers with their hands. A loud thump and metallic clank was generated every time the player pushed on the pad.
10:59—Jeremy Jarmon and Greg Peterson were working in the end zone of the artificial turf field. Both were dragging sleds with weights across the width of the field. Jarmon was wearing a pretty substantial knee brace while Peterson had his knee in a light wrap. (After practice, Mike Shanahan said that Jarmon, who suffered an ACL tear last year, should be ready to participate when training camp starts.)
11:10—Colt Brennan is firing passes with zip and accuracy as receivers run patterns against no defenders.
11:11—The linebackers worked on pass coverage with other linebackers playing receivers. Jim Haslett was keeping a watchful eye over the proceedings. When it comes down to it, the ability of the linebackers, several of whom are converted defensive linemen, to be effective dropping back in coverage may well be the key to the effectiveness of the 3-4 defense.
11:14—With the offense working on one end of the field and the defense on the other, Mike Shanahan was at midfield, pacing back and forth and observing the activities at both ends of the field. He lets the assistant coaches do their jobs.
11:36—Danny Smith energetically (actually, he does everything that way) taught the field goal blocking line how to get pressure up the middle.
11:37—Then Smith showed the middle of the field goal protection team how to prevent pressure from coming up the middle. He’s the only coach that has to teach both sides of everything.
11:44—Kareem Moore, who still is lining up as the starting free safety, had an interception slip through his fingers. This drew some loud admonishments from a few coaches.
11:47—Just as you’ll probably read something good about Larry Johnson in most of these reports, you’ll also read something bad about Rex Grossman. On a deep pattern, Anthony Armstrong ran past a couple of defenders but Grossman threw a pass too high and way over the receiver’s head. Again, keep your fingers crossed for the good health of Donovan McNabb.
11:48—Mike Furrey, the newest Redskins sporting number 85, made a nice catch in traffic over the middle.
11:50—McNabb launched a deep pass to Fred Davis. The ball hit the receiver in the hands but Davis lost the handle on it. The tight end recovered, however, and made the catch. This offense seems to feature a lot of plays with tight ends going deep.
11:55—Former Redskins General Manager Charley Casserly, who is making the rounds observing OTA’s for NFL Network, came over to a group of us to chat. In the course of the conversation, he mentioned the former WMAL radio Sports Call host Ken Beatrice is now a minister, giving communion on Sundays. Writer Dave Elfin envisioned Beatrice standing at the altar, holding a blessed wafer and calling out “YOU’RE NEXT!” to the next parishioner in line.
11:57—Rookie free agent Logan Paulsen was another tight end going deep. He beat safety Anderson Russell, another undrafted free agent, on a deep seam pattern and hauled in the pass.
12:05—Brennan cooled off later in the drills. After one throw that looked particularly confused, offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan came over and coached up the young quarterback.
12:15—The punt return brigade consisted of Bobby Wade, Phillip Buchanon and the diminutive Brandon Banks. There is no coverage during OTA’s so we’ll have to wait until preseason games to start to sort this out. Seventh-round draft pick Terrence Austin, who is graduating from UCLA on Friday, hasn’t been able to attend the OTA’s due to classes. He will be there for minicamp next week.
12:22—The defense has been ahead of the offense for the entire block of OTA’s. That held until the last 10 minutes of the last OTA. Playing in the red zone, the offense finally heated up. McNabb zipped a touchdown pass to Joey Galloway, who celebrated in the end zone after making the grab. Another McNabb pass bounced off of Armstrong but Bobby Wade plucked the ball out of the air for another touchdown. Then Armstrong beat Buchanon in the corner for another TD. Finally, rookie free agent Shay Hodge made a leaping grab at the goal line.

You're probably right, but as much as everyone around here lambasts Snyder, the (previous) FO and coaching staff for not showing patience with some of the young guys resulting in a lack of homegrown talent, this is the same mentality that we have been trying to change, or so I thought.
I think Moore has shown some promise and though he made a mistake withgetting stripped on the int he did make a big play on the int itself. Sure he's not as big a name as Atogwe, but he has shown some promise in some regular season games, I don't think a rookie mental mistake and one dropped pick in practiceis enough to start calling for his replacement.
