Every so often when you walk into a room or are driving fate choosing music that's perfect. It just fits the mood and situation exactly even though, sometimes, that's not a good thing.
I went to Atlantic City for a couple of days to unwind and goof around. The gambling the first day didn't go so well. I lost a hundred bucks (which is the most I'm willing to lose). The next morning, I lost another 20 on slots. I take a break and workout at the gym and as I re-enter the casino I hear them blaring,
"Don't Stop Believing" and I think to myself, "uh-oh," but apparently the song was right. I left the tables 45 bucks up. It was a teeter totter of a game too. I ended at my high for the day and was pretty sure that it was one of those days where I just wasn't going to kill it.
This is not my favorite story about theme music in my life, but it kinda, sorta fits. My favorite is about my first drive into DC.
How about you? Where does music play into your life? Can you remember a time when it felt like a produced moment? Where the music (for good or bad) fit exactly right?

I was walking a fine line to make rent, pay bills, what have you. While busting my ass at work one day I thought to myself, "man, I'm not getting paid enough for the effort I put in, I've been here long enough to see a little more coin." I swear, a few moments later my boss comes up to me and asks, "Hey, if I bumped you up a few bucks an hour would you like to be a supervisor?" I replied, "yeah, sure!". After we got done talking I had a slight adrenalin rush and no thoughts went through my head...all of a sudden this song starts playing in my brain:

Ha. I have a good one. Years and years ago when I lived back in VA me and my GF at the time were in the moment talking about taking our relationship to the next level. Now this was the first time for her as well me. So I have the house to myself and it's late at night I have the radio on maybe 95.5 or 93.9 and we proceed to the next level. Right as we began this new level this song comes on

I walked into a pizzaria and the "Theme From Shaft" was playing in the background.
I felt like the coolest SOB on the planet for 30 seconds.

i've always said that i want the instrumental xplosive by dr. dre to come on anytime i enter a room.

also, "paid the cost to be the boss" by james brown should come on in real life after a big accomplishment. it seems fitting when you have put in a lot of hard work and you've been rewarded.

last but not least, the beat to "papa was a rollin stone" seems appropriate in any situation. i don't care if you're about to do somethin good, do somethin bad, somethin to play in the background as you put on your clothes in the morning, if you're about to play football and you're puttin on your shoulder pads, ridin around in your cop car... whatever, the beat to papa was a rollin stone makes sense.

"Going the Distance" from the original Rocky soundtrack. I want this playing at all times in my life...when I walk into a room, when I'm setting up tailgate equipment, mowing the lawn, working out, whatever. This song should always play.

Hey Hey Hey
When you look you see right through me
Cut the rope, fell to my knees
Fallen, broken every single time
Always keep me under finger
That's the spot where you would (sue) me
Might see some type of pleasure in my mind
Yeah, here comes the water
It comes to wash away the sins of you and I
This time you see
Hey hey hey
When you seek me you destroy me
Rape my mind and smell the poppies
Born in blood in every single time
Always keep me under finger
That's the spot where you might linger
But I see some type of pleasure in my mind
Yeah, here comes the water
It comes to wash away the sins of you and I
This time you see
Like holy water
It only burns you faster than you'll ever dry
This time with me
[guitar solo]
When you look you see right through me
Cut the rope, fell to my knees
Fallen and broken
Every single time
Yeah, here comes the water
It comes to wash away the sins of you and I
This time you see
Like holy water
It only burns you faster than you'll ever dry
This time with me
Hey, hey, hey

At my old job, we played in a basketball rec league, and when we arrived on the court, one of our guys would always play Enter Sandman on his boombox

I thought of another one...I'm not sure why, but I always thought "Time of the Season" by The Zombies would be a cool one to walk around, at least the intro and the funky instrumental stuff at the end....plus which, how many songs ask "Who's your Daddy?" outright?

It's funny that this thread popped up today. I was just thinking about how there are countless moments and people in my life that I think back on within the context of an album or a song, or that I think of when I hear that album or song. Sometimes the deja vu-type feeling is overwhelmingly strong.
There are too many of these for me to even think of them all, let alone list them, but the two that stand out for me the most are Blinded by the Lights by The Streets and Stay Fly by Three Six Mafia. The first reminds me of an experience that I'm not going to mention here, but can be easily discerned from the song's lyrics, and the second, along with Don't Stop Believin' by Journey, pretty much puts me right back into my sophomore year of college. My mouth starts to taste like Sailor Jerry spiced rum whenever I hear Stay Fly.

Have always thought there is a time for the Law & Order sound in many instances. It would just add a dramatic effect.

Say what you will, but nothing gets me more motivated and pumped when on the Elliptical or Cross trainer at the gym then the ending themes from all three original Karate Kid movies. All made by Bill Conti who did the theme music for Rocky among others...Especially the third one, because I keep picturing that guy Matt Barnes yelling at Daniel and calling Mr. Miyagi his Jap Teacher...makes me want to jump into the movie and crane kick his ass.
