View Full Version : Sticksboi05 Hates: People who misspell sentences on purpose

Sticksboi05

Well, I am not going to lie I was not a fan of these types of threads but this has just ground my gears for too long.

Seriously people? What honestly is attractive about typing like this:

"Aye U see DA r3dskInS game DIS W33k??"

I'm sure this is only an epidemic for people under age 30 but hell, you never know.

What's more bizarre is when their misspellings actually make the word LONGER than usual.

What is the driving force behind this nonsense? Now, typing without capitals in say, AIM chat, is one thing, but my God how stupid do people really enjoy making themselves look?

Edit - and yes, I forgot the "P" in people in my rage...:silly: but it was NOT on purpose and has been corrected.

What is the driving force behind this nonsense?

I remember playing Yahoo games and people would always chat like that. Also, you'd see screen names like l2alvl_l30i (ram boy) for example. It's just part of the chat/text culture. Guess kids get bored of typing those stupid "regular" letters.

It can be fun in moderation perhaps in a situation where you're trying to parody stupid and when used among a crowd of people who may appreciate it, but the idiots that go everywhere and spell every word like that just make me sad.

Example of tasteful use:

Stop trying to use these threads for silliness. They are going to start banning people for "I hate threads", everyone seems to need there moment in the spotlight for something they hate. Get over yourself and post it in the random thread or as a response in a thread.

There is a poster in a certain thread that recently did this and blew it off. Personally, I don't use what I call "text typing". I am a grown man and I can read and spell fairly well. I prefer spelling or grammar errors, over the text typing.

My sentence structure and such...well, not so good at that but you get the point.

Completely off topic but fine I'll respond:

Hypocrisy is saying you don't mean to crap on someone's thread and then doing it. If it bothered you so much then ignore it. The irony is coincidental but the fact is that was five years ago and obviously, if you read the OP, has nothing to do with prolonged typing of misspelled words purposely which I certainly don't run around Extremeskins doing. Anyway, that's all I'm going to say.

As long as we're talking about misspelling and things of that nature in here, there's one particular one that really bugs me, more than their/there/they're:

People exchanging "loose" for "lose". One is a verb, and one is an adjective (though you can use loose as a verb, it still means the act of loosening something). I can understand if someone is typing fast and accidentally adds a second 'o', but I'm seeing it more often, and many do it multiple times in one post (which makes me think they're really misspelling it).

To me, it's just not that hard of a distinction, especially since they don't even sound alike!

I don't mind if someone does it by accident. I've mixed them up before by accident if I was typing a post here or somewhere else really quickly, or a text message.

But people who mess them up because they just don't know any better drive me crazy.

"I'm going over their." "This is they're car."

The "loose" and "lose" one is annoying too.

Sometimes people in the Stadium start threads about players "resigning to a new contract." Really? So they finally gave in and took that new deal?

I would say age 28 and under. I'm 30, and AIM chat rooms didn't become popular until I was further along in high school and had proper spelling habits ingrained by my parents. I don't even use shorthand when I text, that's how bad I am about it.

I probably sound far more grouchy and curmudgeonly for my age than I should, but I detest this crap. All of it. "U" for you. It's two god damned extra letters. All the rest...it just kills me. I look forward to eventually being able to shred a ton of resumes and never letting the idiots know why they didn't receive a call back. I hope most of them remain unemployed so I can surround myself with competent individuals that have a grasp of the english language.

I've already gone down as hating it when women add extra letters like, "Oh myy Godd, I can't waitttt to sse youu!" I also hate it when guys (usually) spell incorrectly and obviously do it on purpose because it's so damn obvious and dumb. I think they do it to act as if, "I'm really too awesome to worry about spelling because my life is so busy and full of cool things that I don't need to spend 1 second making sure I spelled everything correctly and capitalized the first letter of my 5 work sentence."

I get annoyed when I see people on Facebook use the @ character when addressing someone in a series of comments.

For example, if John comment's on my picture and I want to thank him, instead of a simple "Thanks John" or "John, I appreciate the kind words" I would type "@ John, thanks".

I don't get it...it's dumb so people should stop doing it.

I simply told him when he's unsure, say the sentence but put the word "also" in instead of "too/to".

"I'm going to the movies, too!"

Good. I thought I was the only one that got very irritated with the lose/loose deal. Glad to know I'm not!

I can understand when people use short hand (i.e. U for you or 2 for two) if they're texting and have a phone like mine that doesn't have a keyboard. I mean, to type in "you" I have to hit 9-9-9-6-6-6-8-8. It's easier to hit 8-8 for the U. Doesn't stop me from still entering the whole word, though. And yes, I have a crappy phone.

But if you're using a keyboard (either on a phone or computer), it's not all that much more work to hit two extra letters.

I remember one summer I asked my cousin why there are so many misspellings and short handed words in her e-mails to me. Just curious. Her answer was that it's summer and she didn't have to write nice any more since school was out. Boggled my mind.
