ESPN Outside the Lines: What's lurking in your stadium food? (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/story?page=100725/stadiumconcessions)
Mold in ice machines at six stands at Miller Park in Milwaukee. A cockroach crawling over a soda dispenser in a private club at Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh. Food service workers repeatedly ignoring orders to wash their hands at a stand at Detroit's Ford Field.
Sports fans don't always see such health threats when ordering a $5 hot dog and $6 beer at a professional sports stadium or arena. But the violations catch the eyes of inspectors who poke, prod and probe stadium kitchens that dish out a range of foods from burgers to sushi, for tens of millions of fans who eat at major professional sports venues from coast to coast each year.
...
Washington/Baltimore Venues
Verizon Center - 100% of vendors in violation
Nationals Park - 25% of vendors in violation
Oriole Park - 9% of vendors in violation

Redskins at 36%. The report is vague though, and only cites an employee touching their face while preparing food.

Wow, the VC is really that bad? I would have never guessed that it was worse than FedEx.
By the way, a $6 beer sounds almost nostalgic.

The last time I was at the VZN, my chicken tenders tasted funny. :puke:

If you're dumb enough to pay $5 for a hot dog, or $6 for a beer, then you deserve a singing cockroach and mold on your meal.

thats why i like eating before i go to a game and never try to order anything from inside besides maybe ice cream if that

I would pay upwards of $6 for a singing cockroach...

Eating inside Verizon Center is so pointless. There are so many good places to eat outside of it. Why would you spend money on overpriced food that is not worth the price and apparently in violation of health codes?

I have Wiz season tickets and avoided the food there like the plaque. Bad is just one of the words I would use.

This.
I normally get nachos at the Phone Booth but nothing more than that. I've eaten at a taco stand on the side of the highway in Tijuana--and am thus a raidoactive beast--so it's not because of quality. Just Chinatown--as a whole--is just so money when it comes to places to eat. Only oblivious fools would be getting a significant meal inside the arena.

Interesting article, but not surprising.
I will say that after going to Foxboro (many times), it is not surprising that they have no violations.

This should be forwarded to Ted Leonsis, I know he would take this seriously. In the BOG/Wizards Blog whatever it is, he said he is taking fan requests seriously, his staff should make sure he reads this.

In the same segment they talked about how much football stadiums make in concessions for a game...right around a million dollars for a football game! It'd be nice if the beer prices went down juuuuusst a bit for us middle class folks.

Ditto.
And isn't Verizon in Chinatown? There are so many great places to eat in that part of town, why would you want nasty concession stand food, anyway?

No clue. I usually show up 2 hours before a game, go to one of the MANY awesome places to eat and then enjoy the game without having worry about eating.
I mean if you are the lazy kind and don't like exploring and finding something around Chinatown, a Chipotle is right next to VC and it's cheaper and 100x better than what they give you inside.

I mean, when I lived in the D.C. area, I was just a kid and I never really got to experience the city as a whole; but I saw plenty of nice looking places to eat near the (then) MCI Center.
Plus, why wouldn't you want to take in one of the best places in the city before the ball game, anyway? Get there early and walk around Chinatown for a little while.

I actually know the answer to this... You see, the chicken that makes up the chicken tenders from FedEx is not from the farms that harvest chicken for supermarkets and other restaurants, they're a special breed of italian chicken which were sent to New Jersey and only in New Jersey will you find that style of chicken... I actually went to school with the son of one of the farmers...

Nope just standard Johnny Rockets chicken tenders. They just appear to be bright orange instead of golden brown.

There's no telling what we've eaten over the years from fast food in general. I wonder if there's a statistic like"over one's lifetime, they've probably eaten 150 boogers and 250 snot rockets". Ignorance is definitely bliss in some cases lol.

They have a couple different contracts. Aramark is one, I think they run like 90% of the booths.

Like someone said above, when I go to Verizon Center I never eat the food there. There are simply too many good places to eat in Chinatown for me to mess with that garbage.
