View Full Version : God works in mysterious ways .....

From the depths of despair to new hope again, the good Lord sure does continue to surprise.
As most of you know, for the past 3 years I've been heavily involved with a Texan gal' who appeared to be the perfect fit in most everyway. To cut a long story short, (and save boring us scream the readers); 3 years back boy breaks arm, get's treated in ER by cute as heck nurse on a work exchange program with hot as Hell Southern drawl, and before you know it there's a full blown relationship in bloom. Girl goes back to States, but the relationships as strong as ever, with boy spending all last summer and early fall with her, and marriage plans are made whilst boy returns home to finalize house sale and visa application.
Fast forward to the present, with the above being completed and boy now in effect homeless and aching to see his baby, and then he comes out as arranged July 4th weekend to walk into a **** storm of epic proportions he never knew was coming. I'll spare you the details, but boy is now single again, utterly distrought, and the fool that he is taking everything onto himself when he knows he's a great guy who did little wrong. And stuck in a totally strange Country to boot. It's been a month.
Then yesterday. Said Texan now lives in Enid, Oklahoma; and as such I'd enquired at Northwestern Oklahoma State up in Alva about the possibility of going back to school on a Computer Science course. Having pretty good correspondence with the Institution, I figured I'd take the personal approach and visit as I was out here, so drove up yesterday, expecting little.
5 hours later, after numerous tests I passed with flying colours to my great surprise; and being passed from one administrator to another, all of whom couldn't of been more helpfull; I'm 3 weeks away from going back to school for 3 years in the US as a 35 year old. To say it was a nuts day is an understatement, but the bonus of being a great one.
I'm **** scared at the prospect of re-entering school after going on a 20 year break, and have little time to prepare. Throw in the stress of the cost, books etc, and it's daunting to say the least. But it's too good an oportunity to turn down.
So I go, without wishing to sound dramatic, from my head being totally broken and the utter depths of despair and thinking everything in my World had ended; to a surprising new opportunity that hopefully will take my mind off the other and help with the healing process.
Why I'm sharing with you guys I don't know. I just needed to get this off my chest in some fashion, so alone have I been the past few weeks. But GHH is coming back ..... and looking forward to impressing the hot 18 year old's with his accent, lol.
God sure does work in mysterious ways.
Hail.
BTW, apologies in advance for the spelling mistakes. This is being done in a public library and rushed.
And try be nice with any "told you about them Cowboy fan" cracks. That scab still smarts, BAD.

And don't forget, Jason Campbell is no longer a Washington Redskin. That should certainly help with the healing process. :)

I didn't follow a goddman word of that. A black guy breaks his arm and meets a southern girl from overseas....and then it gets confusing.

I dont know what in the hell he's talking about.
He is talking about himself in a 3rd person sorta like format. But basically saying he met some chick who dumped him or the like and moved to OK and he followed her there when he found out and now will be able to go back to school in the same state for some computer science thingy.
Not sure why he didn't say that in a one big sentence just like I did.
People like to just have more drama in their post then needed. :silly:

Perhaps I can translate, as I speak some "confused British" (or a "bit of the Brit" ;)).
Three years ago, the gentleman in question was residing in his home country, fair Britannia, when he broke his arm, and was treated by a nurse whom he found attractive.
They began a relationship, and though she returned to the United States, it continued, with eventual discussion of marriage. He spent last summer and fall here in the United States, then returned home to work out the details of a permanent move.
This past July, having finalized this process, he came over, only to encounter unspecificied "drama" which ended in the severing of the until-now promising relationship. She was a Cowboys fan, as an aside, and he wishes that no one tease him about this sign that they are incompatible.
This is very bad, but while he was in Oklahoma and understandably despondent, he visited a university with which he had been corresponding about possibly taking classes (likely in conjunction with his new life with the Cowboys fan), since he figured it couldn't hurt.
To his surprise, they responded favorably, and after an extended visit, he has been accepted into a program, probably with some sort of associated financial aid (since he didn't mention anything about worries about finance), though he is worried since he hasn't been in school in 15 years.
Overall, his feeling is one of shock and pleasant surprise that a situation which began so badly turned out so well, with a possibility of real personal growth and development, and he suspects (possibly) some sort of benevolent divine intervention (similar metaphors include closing doors and opening windows, or only giving what one can handle, and so on).
I hope this has been helpful.

Certain things always get lost in translation. This is why I recommend reading the initial post for the emotional turmoil, then you can refer to my version for details and clarity.

All I got from the post is that he is an undocumented illegal immigrant.
And crossing state lines for the purpose of stalking a former lover.
And he blames the public library system for his poor spelling.

Since he is a Redskins fan all of the above no longer matter. :)

When you're dealing with a 40 lb kid or an 80 year old with a diabetic condition.
It only takes one bad HotDog.
It only takes one bad piece of Chicken.

Well, I'll be happy for you while these jokers are giving it to you with both barrels. Congrats on your new opportunity. I won't say anything nasty about the ex. since you didn't give any details surrounding the beakup, and you know what, you probably made the right choice; I've seen how those threads deteriorate.
Good luck in school, though I do have one question. You said you hadn't been in 20 years...did you stop going to school at age 15?

Good translation.
However, he fails to entertain the notion, that the same "God" who mysteriously got him back in school, and back on the right track, was also responsible for him meeting the she-devil, and putting him in the tailspin to begin with.
Why is that?

You need to brush up on your religious jargon. His invocation of the phrase "God works in mysterious ways" is an assertion (I don't know how serious) that all of his troubles (including with the girlfriend) ended up being for the best because it led him to a favorable situation, in a way he never would have expected, leading to a possible conclusion that God led him to the negative experience so that he could have a greater positive one later.
Just so you know, the other common usage is as a consolation, when a person is still going through a difficult period, in suggestion that it might actually end up being for the best.
All of this is, of course, giving you the benefit of the doubt and assuming that you were genuinely interested, and not simply taking a petty, snarky, and uncalled for shot at the possible faith of another person, or attempting to bring him down in a moment of happiness, because that would be just rude and completely out of place.
I prefer to think the best of people. :)

Well, in this case, I was taking a
...petty, snarky, and uncalled for shot at the possible faith of another person...
I always find it a little annoying when "The Big Guy" gets all the glory, and none of the blame. You know, like when a football player scores on an unbelievable play, and gives all the credit to "God". Just once, I'd love to here a guy blame his fumble on, "God".
...or attempting to bring him down in a moment of happiness
If my comment could bring him down, chances are he wasn't as happy as he thought.
...because that would be just rude...
The whole concept of a "God" that would pull off some of the crap he is credited with, or blamed for, can also be considered an insult to intelligence, and therefore, be considered, rude. All depends on which side of the fence you're standing on.
...and completely out of place.
I see a thread about credit being given to "God" a fine place to suggest he take some of the blame, too.
You obviously disagree.

Lighten up Ax man.
It was more a figure of speech than placing any significant connotation on the phrase. Out of the depths of one despair comes unexpected and unforeseen light, so to speak. Just a common figure of speech "conondrum." Take it as literal as you want.
Nice surmision tech, twice over. (And I'm self-sufficent for the initial semesters FWIW.).
16 forehead, down to the folly of youth when so much more was expected of me; so it's a totally new and daunting prospect but ultimately one too good to turn down.
And if I knew the answer to that grhq, I wouldn't of written this to start with. I have some answers, non of which stack up, even her own family don't get the 360 about change; and answers I may never get. All of which leads to utter frustration and being in limbo, besides the obvious hurt. But what ya' gona' do?
Life is what it is.
Let's not forget the wise ass' too. When one opens one's self up, your presence is always expected, if not entirely welcomed.

I knew that. Just thought I'd use it to point towards how ridiculous it sounds when it is used, and meant, literally.
Just bustin' balls.

I think the best way for you to view this circumstance is to say that it's more her loss than it is yours. Take the high road, realize that she has made a poor choice and that she is ultimately worse off for it.

What does that say ?
It says quite a lot, actually.
Rather than get dragged further into a pointless argument, I prefer to focus on the positive.
At least nobody's barged into sad threads announcing "Your loved one's not in heaven. There is no heaven, idiot, and frankly I find it an insult to my intelligence that you would believe in a God that would allow him to die in the first place."
So that's good. :)
It only says what the reader, chooses, to believe it does.
I'm not down with that whole postmodernist viewpoint, you know. If I have a headache, and need to pick out the bottle of aspirin which is next to the bottle of rat poison, you'd better believe that texts have objective meaning.
For the record though, I used the word "rude" because I like to be polite. :)

I'm guessing not that much (though I admit that's a guess based on the OP's country of origin, combined with the casual usage), which in a way says even more about the responses in this thread.
