View Full Version : Samuels on Trent

Did anyone see the video on Redskins.com where Chris Samuels speaks about Trent Williams... did you notice how he shakes his head, meaning "no/not good" when he tried to sell us Trent as a good tackle and that he doesn´t see any problems... now I am getting a little bit scared and the trade for Jammal Brown makes even more sense....

1) I think you're reading too much into this.

2) Do you think Chris would give that obvious of an assessment about a player he is coaching, ripe for fans on message boards to post about?

*edit* He also says he's not worried about Trent and thinks he's outstanding. Maybe he's shaking his head in response to the question, maybe saying "No, I'm not worried" or "No, I don't think he'll struggle"?

Oh how I hate threads like this.

I have no idea what you're supposedly seeing from that video to make you worried about Williams. Samuels just said a lot of generic positive coach speak, and he happened to be moving his head around while talking.

From an ex-military intelligence perspective, the guys body language matches his words. He's not shaking his head "no" he's looking to his right (from where his head is when he's speaking, which for him at that moment is considered his straight perspective), when he looks to his right (and down) he's mostly thinking about the way he feels, and his language matches that assessment, "I'm not worried, I think, I feel". Those are, for the most part, emotional words (even I think because it's a prediction based on his feeling from what he's seen).

From the motion of the eyes, he's being honest about his answer to the question and his words back that up (eye movement shows he's touching on emotions and his words are emotionally related).

Also, in Shanahan's interview he is looking up and to his left, or level and to the left, which is a sign that he's talking about what he's seen (memories) and his language matches it. Also, you'll notice, if you watch the video again, that when he starts to run out of stuff to elaborate on (or runs out of stuff he's willing to elaborate on) his eyes turn level and to his right, which means he's trying to think of something to say that sounds good.

That's my best effort at breaking things down to an interogation type process, which is what interviews are, minus all the scary stuff.

This all tells me that Shanahan and Samuels both believe Trent is going to be the real deal.

MTH is a mod and is telling the OP that, most likely per forum rules, he should provide a link for what he's referring to. if not for the sake of rules, for the sake of a sane thread. he gave a redskins.com link and i still havent found it.

still, its probably not good to piss of the mods. and why the heck would you pick a fight with MTH- the most easy going of them all?

Seriously?!?

How about THIS (http://extremeskins.com/showthread.php?t=284017)??

Is that not critical or cynical enough for you?!?

If that doesnt do it for you I'd be happy to put together some of MTH's greatest hits and then I'll introduce you to TK :ols:

Take it for what its worth -- a friend of mine talked to a prominent Redskin player, and the Redskin player said he wouldn't be surprised if Artis Hicks starts over Williams. Would assume it means Hicks as RT and Brown as LT.

But, I'm not believing anything until I see a preseason game or two.

Unless you're playing poker reading body language just complicates your life and offers nothing of reliable value.

That's obviously not saying a whole lot. Plus:

Bingo. And the last sentence says it all. I'd recommend a switch to decaf and paying closer attention so you're not so far off base with an assessment next time.

:ols::ols::ols: Thank God training camp is 2 days away and threads like these should cease.

You're kidding right? This is ES ya know? The place where,as soon as the first player pulls up with an ingrown toenail, part of the board starts looking for free agent options. Another part wants to cut the entire training staff and their families. And yet another part overloads google search with "ingrown toenail" in order to try to give a good prognosis. Won't even mention the part that wants to cut the player and do so with an "I told ya so." :silly:

This is true :ols: Wouldn't you prefer to see a thread about Player X's ingrown toenail versus someone saying we're doomed .Because Chris Samuels' body language seems to suggest, (only his mind) that he thinks Trent Williams will struggle before he's even taken a single NFL snap?

There are no guarantees in the draft at any spot but I feel a lot better with a possible very good/Pro Bowl LT over a potential All Pro FS. We HAD to address the tackle position and inject some youth in our line as well. Anything else would have been like painting the Bridge on the Titanic as it was sinking.

with the past luck of this franchise and draft picks I assume that he is afraid that Trent is a wash out.But with Samuels and Brown as well as the oline coach he would have to be bad not to make it.The question is how long will the growing period be and how painful?
