From Yahoo -
After only one year behind the judges' table on "American Idol," Ellen DeGeneres is leaving the show.

"A couple months ago, I let FOX and the 'American Idol' producers know that this didn't feel like the right fit for me," Ellen said in a statement issued to Access Hollywood on Thursday. "I told them I wouldn't leave them in a bind and that I would hold off on doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next."

The talk show host and comedienne revealed that she didn't come to the decision lightly.

"It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for," her statement continued. "I also realized this season that while I love discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings."

I'll be sorry to see her go. I liked her sense of humor on the program.

Well, damn! That didn't take long. I guess she's right though. She's not really associated with the music industry at all. Still, though, I dig Ellen. I like her humor; Very quirky and upbeat. I would say "If she were 30 years younger, she'd be the type of woman I'd want," but I guess that couldn't apply to her. :ols:

She sucked. The few times I did watch it made me pissed off because she had to keep making comments and jokes to draw attention to the fact that she is lesbian. She just had to be the center of attention all the time. Her remarks about her kissing other women were unnecessary.

I could kinda see this coming. I think she would fit a show like America's Got Talent anyway.

Wow, I didn't think she would be opting for sexual reassignment surgery so soon.

She made about four such jokes the entire season.

And WTF about your comment having to be the center of attention? I never got that vibe at all.

Might as well.

I didn't watch last season and I definitely won't watch with Simon gone. It was a nice run but it's time for Idol to be laid to rest.

I've been praying, man. I'm praying.

Seriously, how many of the winners of that show are still (or have ever been) culturally relevant?

She was awful.

She is rumored to be replaced by Jessica Simpson.

But with Simon on another show next year, AI might be done.

She never made any sense on that show anyway. She doesn't know anything about the music industry.

Without Simon around, I don't see how that show keeps going.

Running through the list of finalists on Wikipedia, I'd say that Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Chris Daughtry, and maybe Jordin Sparks are the only real notable names.

Contestants like Fantasia Barrino, Kellie Pickler, Katharine McPhee, Adam Lambert, David Cook, and Kris Allen have had lukewarm to moderate success.

And then guys like Justin Guarini and Clay Aiken are big name flops considering how far they went in the show.

I actually completely forgot that Carrie Underwood was on American Idol until I saw her on the list. Chris Daughtry also isn't really a typical American Idol "product," but it did give him his big break.

^^ Underwood and Daughtry have been the only real stars from that show. And I will throw in Clarkson, too.

And you're right about Simon leaving. Not sure how it will survive without him.

She can't sing or act, why would she replace Ellen ?

She was a good dancer though.

She at least has experience in the music industry. And she's alot more easier on the eyes.:D

Seriously though, I think Idol did good here. They could have done alot worse, imo.

Hell, they might as well just replace Simon with JLo's hubby. Unlike Jennifer, he actually can sing.

Easier on the eyes by far. Yum.

I think someone like Denis Leary would be a great replacement for Simon.

I don't know how I forgot about Jennifer Hudson. Guess I just overlooked her on the Wikipedia list.

I don't know about J-Lo. Besides the obvious (that she's hot), she doesn't really bring anything. She knows the overall entertainment industry, but professional singing isn't really her forte. She'd be a lot better for something like America's Got Talent.

Still doesn't replace Simon either. That would leave Randy, Kara, and J-Lo. Do people even really like Kara on that show (again, besides for her looks)? Randy just continues his usual "yo dawg" shtick.

They need a judge that really knows the music industry and has an eye for who can ecome a product that could be successfully packaged for the masses, and also isn't afraid to criticize people and tell it like it is.

I only watch the audition episodes to see the terrible singers, so I personally don't care if the judges are Katy Perry, J-Lo, and Kara for the trio of eye candy. But if the show's going to last they better mix it up a little more than just replacing Ellen with J-Lo.

The show should just call it quits, it was good at first but slumping ratings plus the departure of Simon...might as well end it now

The runners up usually did better than the winners.

The few times I saw it with her on she was awful. She can be a decent comedian, but she never figured out how to slide the jokes in without sounding forced and she never had any contributions at all with regards to the music. And her look was really odd, too. That close-cropped way-too-bright-blond hair, I told my wife Ellen's head looked like a flashlight.

Reportedly,

We're told the show will be going back to a three-judge format and assuming all deals are finalized, the judge's panel will consist of Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.

No one as mean, abrasive and in your face as Simon. Show will go away.

Fantastic news. Never liked Kara. She was a no-talent hack, responsible for some of the worst music in history:

Paris Hilton
Kelly Osbourne

And she wasn't physically attractive either...cherished only by those who don't get out much.

Great changes for Idol.

They should let Gordon Ramsey take Simon's place. Hell he is on every other Fox show.

Ellen is one of my favorite stand-up comics. But I'll never understand why she was hired to evaluate singers. No idea. If she wasn't hired to evaluate then she was just comic relief. Which is needless when you had Simon's razor sharp wit tearing people apart when necessary.

Yeah. 4 sounds about right. And that was 4 too many. Kids are watching this show. She shouldn't be talking about making out with her girlfriend on national television. I feel that if she has to redirect the spotlight to her sexuality then she must be starving for attention. Otherwise, she would make a normal, appropriate comment. Other than her gay remarks I thought she was appropriate but not very good...just like everyone except Simon.

Yeah, you know how outrageous those radical lesbos can be. Seriously, when did she say anything about making out with her girlfriend? And when did she "redirect the spotlight" to herself? I wonder whether your apparent extreme aversion to the fact that she's out has skewed in your mind anything that she says and does.
