I hope he gets down to about 340, that is too much weight to carry!

I have a few friends who have had this done..aren't people not supposed to do any kind of heavy lifting , or anything strenuous for a few months after surgery?

Even though the band is way safer than the old gastric bypass method, it's way out of the ordinary for an athlete to take such a risky route to weight-loss. I have read that about 10% of recipients of this surgery experience a complication, which seems like a lot to me. It seems safe to assume that he would be more likely to have complications since he is more active than your typical lap band recipient.

What BMW did to lose all that weight was impressive and a good standard for others in his (previous) situation to look at and try to emulate.
There is nothing heroic about letting yourself get to that point in the first place.
