Rookie receiver Dez Bryant has made no secret of the fact that he is chomping at the bit to return to the field. After missing all but three games in his final season at Oklahoma State and each of the Cowboys’ five preseason games, in fact, coaches have taken it upon themselves to keep the enthusiasm in check.
“The main thing is I have to keep him calm. He's excited and biting at the bit to have a chance to play,” said receivers coach Ray Sherman, on Monday. “It's different. It's not preseason. This is for real. This is live bullets coming at you.”
To understand Bryant’s character is to understand the need for such precaution on the part of the coaches: Bryant loves football. And, on Sunday, he will have the opportunity play for the first time in almost a year--and, not for nothing, the first time since being drafted by the Dallas Cowboys.
Which is to say that for Bryant, who says he has fully recovered from the high ankle sprain that so severely limited him in camp, Sunday night can’t come soon enough.
"It's been a long time, man,'' Bryant said, per David Moore of the Dallas Morning News. "I just feel like, I'm just ready to unleash."

Sounds like Sherman is a bit worried about the kid.
He should be.

Well hopefully our secondary is ready to unleash, and Landry is ready to lay the wood over the middle.

Calvin Johnson had like 1 catch for 3 yards against us in his first season. That was the same year Kitna threw for 4000+ yards. Calvin was highly regarded coming out and he didn't sit out the better portion of his last year in college. I'm not too worried about Dez.

Not this week, Dez. The speed of the game, your rust and hyper-adrenaline will mess with your game. It'll be a couple weeks minimum until you hit your stride.

Dez is about to learn the hard lesson of a rookie WR: natural abilities don't get you as far in the NFL as they do in college. You don't get to play McNeese St. or Miami of Ohio to get up to speed and shake off the rust. You have to be good. You have to run good routes and study your opponents. Oh, and don't hurt your ankle on that first cut in the game, that would just be a shame.

I can't wait for him to be destroyed coming across the middle by Fletch, Rocky, or Rak. That, then while trying to go deep he all of a sudden can't outrun everyone and DHall picks it in front of him and Landry blows him up on a block to free Hall to run it back.

You should probably just hope landry actually makes contact and manages to wrap up.

Moss didn't miss a complete year of collegiate football and wasn't coming off an injury during camp in his first year as well.
Bryant may end up being the most talented WR that the Cowboys have had since Owens, but expecting him to "unleash" is a setup for disappointment.

When Randy Moss came out of Marshall, he was unlike anything anyone had seen at WR. He broke the mold and everyone remade it with his measurables. No one knew how to prepare for him, and he made them pay. Bryant isn't breaking any molds with his body type, he's just the next "best receiver" in college to come to the pros.
With the way he's been behaving and talking though, he's certainly providing enough motivational material for the Skins to shut him up.

You guys should really quiet down with the "Landry is going to kill him" nonsense. It was the same crap spewed with DeSean Jackson... who was too small to play in the NFL. And he survived and had an excellent rookie season and broke out last year.
Bryant can break out for all I care.. as long as the Skins get the "W".

I have to agree with DH on this one. The one player I would agree would lay out Dez is no longer here. LL is hit or miss and doesn't scare WR's, IMHO, anymore than any other DB in the league.
Dez is a rookie and will struggle like all rookie WR's. He could be a great talent or a bust, just have to wait and see.
If the skins can get to Romo early and often it won't matter how good or bad Dez is.

Wait? Dez or Emmit? I'm confused, is it just all Cowboys that talk to the media sound like that?

Man you puke fans always compare bryant to Moss, how many receivers have come out and played like Moss? Oh wait, it was just Moss?
Ok, how many players came out and looked like Taylor Jacobs? Whats that you say, alot? Thanks for playing!

Did anyone other than Redskins fans think that Taylor Jacobs could be great in the NFL? I remember everyone saying great wrs don't come out of Florida...
But denial is an ugly thing. Bryant may or may not have a good game on Sunday Night but his arrow points up. IMO, bust is unlikely.

How does his arrow point up Ken, we have yet to see him play a down and there are knocks on him. He might be the next Taylor Jacobs for all we know.

You know, I was more "afraid" Dallass would draft Moss than I've been afraid of them drafting Bryant. If you guys would have drafted Moss, I would have been afraid of him more than Bryant.

Sometimes when you let a dog off a leash it sort of just stands there, doesn't realize you disconnected the leash, or wanders about slowly and aimlessly while sniffing the ground. After doing that for a while it pees or takes a dump then trots back over to its owner. I hope that is the type of unleashing Dez Bryant has in the NFL.

Amazing. Bryant is just going to be a great disappointment to the Cowboys if he even has just a normal rookie season because of the pedestal the fans have put him on.

....and sometimes that dog actually takes off at insane speed, and then gets run over by a truck cause the ******* dog didn't know where the **** it was running. Just sayin'.
It's true though, Bibby's right, you guys (Cowboy's fans) have put him up so high already (MOSS?!, what is Dez's 40 time again? 4.56 was the high, yeah, Moss ran a 4.25 HUGE difference) that even if he has a great season as a rookie, it'll be disappointing. Kind of like calling for Dallas to go play the SB in Dallas, well, what if they only win a playoff game, "Ohhhhh God the worlds over! boo hooooooooo."
Seriously, why not set your expectations at a reasonable level, like, maybe he outplays Roy "No Talent" Williams first.

This is very true. When Moss came out he was a freak of nature (still is); nobody had ever seen anything like him. 6'4, 210lbs with 4.25 speed and hands like glue. At that time he was such an aberration that he didn't need to be able to run crisp, precise routes and have a great understanding of pro offenses to beat anyone who tried to stop him. He would just use his natural abilities to blow by them, or out jump them.
Nowadays, just being a physical freak isn't enough at that position. Defenses adapted to that sort of thing and have evolved ways to handle it. And while Bryant is obviously a very gifted athlete, he isn't even in the same category as freaks like Moss or Calvin Johnson. As the game progressed, Moss had to actually learn to run good routes, etc in order to still be as good. Just like CJ did before he was much of a threat against opposing defenses.
Methinks Bryant is full of hot air.

Ridiculous..Dez Bryant couldn't hold Randy Moss's jock in terms of sheer talent.

dez bryant will maybe get like 3 catches for 23 yards. IF THAT. i mean when we played arizona we shut down fitzgerald and boldin (minus the reed doughty coverage) so what makes u think cowgirl fans that dez bryant is gonna be unstoppable. its just human nature to you all i guess to think every player you have is elite. ya 3rd stringer center probably better than jeff saturday huh?

He may be good, but only time will tell.
He'll definitely struggle against us.
I'm predicting that he'll commit rookie mistakes, (though not spiking the ball after falling untouched after making a catch like Plexiglass did as a rookie with Pittsburg), but stuff like pass interference or illegal blocks.
I agree with the posters that say that Landry, or someone, should bust him in the chops. If doesn't necessarily have to be Landry, but someone should jack him up early, and more than once, to get him rattled. That baptism of fire may take him off his game, and make him more than likely to commit those penalties that I alluded to.
He may have been hit by his teammates in practice, but not with the speed and fury of someone from the opposing team.

he has not practiced much with his ankle. what kind of game shape will he be in with only playing a couple of games in 2 years.

He'll probably have 2 catches for 6 yards with a cheap TD and then Cowboys fans will come back and claim victory.

Well thankfully if Dez is a bust he is still only our #3 option as a Receiving threat behind Miles and Jason.

I don't think he's going to be a bust, I think he'll be a great receiver (as much as I hate to say it), but not in his first few games, and especially not with nearly a year of rust to knock off and without any preseason games to get used to the NFL's speed.
I also don't think he's going to be Randy Moss, but if he can be another Miles Austin it seems like a lot of you guys would be disappointed with it when that would give Dallas one of the top receiving groups in the league. Even so, it's probably going to take about half a season or more for him to get used to the league.
