View Full Version : Going to a CAPS game v a REDSKINS game - TONIGHT WAS TERRIBLE

No, it’s really not. Like it or not, going to a Skins game is an all-day event. If that’s not your thing, then it’s not your thing. They opened the parking lots at noon for this game. Not saying you had to be first in line at noon to get into the parking lot, but leaving your house 3 hours early, unless you live in Landover, is not “early.”
Both agree and disagree to a point. If people want to do the tailgate thing and make it an all-day event, by all means, enjoy it! And again, I don't have any sympathy for the person who expects to get to the stadium 30 minutes prior to kickoff and just breeze into the stadium.
I know this wasn't a normal situation, being with the lots open at noon and all. I had orange parking and got to the stadium a little after 6 and found a space rather easily. After the game I was anticipating a long wait to get out of there, since obviously just about everyone probably stayed until the end. As it was, though, I waited perhaps 20 minutes to get out of the lot (longer than normal, but not bad all things considered) and was home in Woodbridge 90 minutes after Alex Barron had been called for holding.
For a normal 1 pm game the drill is usually this: pick up relative at Union Station at 10, leave the city by 1130 after eating a meal, at the stadium by 12. After the game normally drop her off at New Carrollton by 5 pm and home in Woodbridge a little after 6.
A time-consuming drill.....you bet. Whether one considers it an "all-day" thing likely depends on whether one feels they should just be able to cruise in and out of the same place where 90K of their closest friends are gathered.
The OP claimed that he was at one of the exits close to the stadium by 5:45. For him not to have been able to find a space by 7:15 either means he wasn't looking hard enough, or something was totally messed up.

No judeo-christian valued family loving person with a kind soul could enjoy what happened to many of us tonight.
Thanks, Rick. But did you really have to bring religion into this?

There's a reason attendance is down all around the league and that stadiums are making a concerted effort to improve the game day experience for the fans willing to brave the "elements" and attend in person. I've been going to games all my life and I must admit, the "family" atmosphere we once had is diminished. Having said that, I have a fairly strong memory of being in the upper deck at RFK for a Dallas game and being nearly pushed over the rail by some drunk, brawling fans.....back in 1970-something. I was under 10 years old. My point is that, obviously, this behavior has been going on longer than we care to admit although I'd be willing to bet that the event at that childhood game was a more isolated incident and not the norm.
What really amazes me is not that the stuff goes on at the games....really......it's that most of the people here seem to want to defend it or tell the OP that he should have known better or that he should have stayed away. Kinda makes me sad.......
I hope to one day bring my young children to a game at FEDEX when it's appropriate to do so. I just hope I don't have to be covering their eyes and ears for most of it.

Well, i for one totally agree with you. It's disgraceful. That's why, i for one make sure I praise the Buddha-man before going to the game.
I actually went to the game and I had none of the problems you had. Maybe next time you should plan ahead. Also, if you complain about the traffic, take the metro. Unless you've got too much class for that.
Also, part of the reason that the "family atmosphere" has deteriorated is that the after market for tickets has exploded because of the internet. Season ticket holders would rather cash in than actually go to the game so we got to spend 300 dollars for 100 dollar seats. If i got to spend stupid money to go to a game you can bet your ass i'm gonna be stupid when i get there. Suck it.

I find it hard to believe all those things happened to you, and you didn't say anything to security. If my wife was groped, myself or someone else would have been arrested.
Did the guy that pissed on your foot look like this?

the guy wants to go to a game and not be treated like crap by his fellow fans, I don't see how that is too much to ask. If you want to be a jerkoff, become an eagles fan....

1. People - why do you feel so entitled to take up 5 spaces for your tailgate. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE FOR EVERYONE ELSE.
I have more friends than you. I roll deep. Give me elbow space and park your Prius in the cash lot.
2. Why do you all stand in the parking aisles so no one can find a space.
Why are you scared to roll down your window?
3. Why once someone is pulling in to a marked space - do you look at them like they did something wrong.
I wasn't expecting you. I give my girlfriend the same look when she climbs into my bed at night.
4. When someone is pulling in - move your chairs and BBQ.
That wasn't a question, and you aren't my dad.
5. Show some class - want to drink? Get buzzed, but do you have to act like savages?
You want to see savage? Take away my booze and sit next to me while I watch Redskin's football over the past decade.
6. Cussing, cussing cussing.
**** that noise.
7. When someone has to go to the bathroom, please stand up and let them through the aisle.
Go to the bathroom when I'm standing up.
8. When someone else has to go to the bathroom - stand up and let them through without harassment.
I wish I could give you wedgie or wet-willy every single time you stood up.
9. Why is a restroom a place to start fights and not flush.
Because flushing is for nerds.
10. Why do you smoke in front of no smoking signs?
I didn't come to the game to read.
This had a frat party atmosphere (not the good ones - the kind youd fear for your daughter in). I feared for my safety a number of times. It wasnt fun and I couldnt enjoy the game.
You went to the frat parties that had no girls at them. Your daughter is probably at the fun ones.
Ive been to a number of CAPS games. Easy parking. Metro. Fans who show one another class and dignity. Family atmosphere.
It's easier to control 18,000 people in-doors than it is 91,000 outdoors. I saw plenty of happy families at the game.
Look, I know this wasnt meant for all of you - but to those who this applied to - think....is this the way your grandmother raised you? Cant you be decent to another fellow fan?
My grandma would karate-chop me in the fruit-basket if I ran around complaining about a REDSKINS WIN OVER DALLAS AT HOME.
Arent you embarrassed no one in their right mind would bring a kid or teenager to this environment?
You should home-school them while you're at it.
Arent you embarrassed HBO did an expose on FEDEX field and it was worse than ever tonight?
Field looked great to me and HBO will make it look even better. Go watch Hard Knocks.
I left at halftime and its your fault. You know who you are and shame on you.
I'm mad they let you through the gates in the first place. That game was a great moment in Redskins history and I will never forget it. I hope you give your tickets to someone who deserves to be at the game.

Okay, THESE posts made me laugh.
Seriously, man. Give me your tickets. I will find a way to travel to Washington and CHEER for my football team.

I left Bethesda at 5pm -- got to exit 17 at 535p. I did not pull into my green lot spot until 715p. It was a mad house. It didnt have to be this way, but FEDEX traffic management gets an F and most of you are inconsiderate human beings. To those who read this and it doesnt apply, excuse me. For those who do - this was a miserable night for me and my guests and its thanks to you.
Let me say - I think going to FEDEX was miserable tonight - the worst ever and Ive gone to games for 30 years. Ill never go to a night game again. No judeo-christian valued family loving person with a kind soul could enjoy what happened to many of us tonight.

Youre right. I should have expected to hear cussing every play. Been assaulted. Been a victim of battery. Watch people puke in the bathrooms. See numerous fights. Had my fiance groped. Youre right.
I should have expected for no one to move their BBQ after waiting in 3 hours of traffic. Youre right
I should have expected for no one to stand up when trying to get through the aisle for food/restrooms. Youre right.
I should have expected for someone to get upset when asked to please move their chair so I can get in a space. Youre right.
I should have expected to have my foot urinated on. Youre right.
Hey CSP, how was the Texans game? Did you keep your feet dry?
