Lock your doors: Stranger leaves nasty calling card in apartment (http://host.madison.com/ct/news/local/crime_and_courts/article_b9b2365c-dae0-11df-9442-001cc4c002e0.html)
This is why we lock our doors.
Madison police said an 18-year-old Chicago man walked into an unlocked West Gorham Street apartment in the middle of the night, took off his socks and pants and then used the toilet to such an extent it took two hours to clean.
The nastiness was reported to police a week ago during the night on Oct. 9-10, said police spokesman Joel DeSpain.
"The 19-year-old resident and his friends were aghast to see and smell what had transpired while they slept," DeSpain said.
The resident first came upon the stranger when the stranger walked into his room and turned the light on.
"He then heard the man go to the bathroom and leave the apartment a few minutes later," DeSpain said.
In the morning on Oct. 10, the apartment dwellers realized something was amiss.
The stranger's cell phone and identification were found in the bathroom, along with his socks, pants, and night deposit.
A roommate left the door unlocked.
"They won't be doing that again," DeSpain said.
An investigating officer discovered an e-mail address for the night visitor.
"He (the officer) let him know how to get his property back and advised him that it would be very adult of him to apologize to the people in the apartment," DeSpain said.

Well, I guess if someone is gonna break into my home, I'd rather have them drop one hell of a deuce than rob or kill us.

Was this "stranger" large as the hulk and covered in prison tattoos or something? According to the article the "resident" knew he was in the house before he even walked into the bathroom. The guy walked into his room and turned the lights on... lol that's a rude awakening. I hate when my wife does that I can't imagine how annoying it would be for some stranger that then uses my bathroom and can't be bothered to courtesy flush.

always lock your door. you'd think it'd be common sense but some people really are that unaware/clueless/lazy. Me and 1 roommate had to complain constantly to our other roommate for 2 months or so each time he didn't lock the door behind him before he finally got it together, which was really annoying not to mention stupid and unsafe.

I remember working on a tobacco farm and the owner not only left his house unlocked the door was usually open along with the windows; no A/C.
However he did have loaded 12 gauge under his bed.

I'm pretty sure alcohol was involved here.

The most horrible sight I have ever seen was the bathroom at a Toys-R-Us after a disgruntled ex-employee got through with it.
And I don't want to talk about it anymore.

Wait, dude walks into the guys room, goes in the bathroom and takes a massive crap?
The resident had no clue this was going on?? Do his friends normally show up randomly and poop in his room?

So, a guy essentially breaks into someone's apartment and then defecates all over their bathroom, and his only punishment is the police officer kindly requests that he apologize ???

How does it take 2 hours to clean a toilet? Something isn't right about this story.
And Mick, they tell him to come get his property and are cool about it, until he shows up to get his property. They're trying to save the hassle and manpower it takes to track dude down and arrest him. And he'll probably fall for it.

So, they didn't find him yet, and are issuing a public statement to find him ? I figured they had enough personal belongings that he left behind, that they could easily track him down with the info he left there.
