Kinda of mind blowing that Maryland has 6 wins and just scored 62 after being so pathetic last year.

Wow, love Mark May, but he is an idiot. He stated the SEC is the best conference this year hands down because their tough OOC schedule (he said it was the toughest in the FBS). He cited Penn St. vs. Alabama and Clemson vs. Auburn (real power houses, I know). He said a one loss Bama should get in over TCU and it's not even close. When Lou Holtz owned him with actual stats, he was shrugged off. May is a joke and a shill.

O'Brien looks like he might be the real deal. The only thing that sucks about winning is that fat boy might be retained.

not like the SEC where perfection is demanded.

Oh...
GameDay is heading to Salt Lake City for the matchup between No. 4 #TCU and No. 8 #Utah...another undefeated will fall.

That's true for UF, LSU, and Bama.

Otherwise, not so much. But the SEC bravado sounds nice.

Besides trying to label one entire conference (incorrectly), you probably shouldn't try to label other ones either.

Building an elite program depends mostly on the individual school. Otherwise Vanderbilt and Ole Miss would be dominant simply by sharing fans with Alabama who blindly chant "SEC! SEC! SEC!" any chance they get.

As for the ACC, UNC was trying to build an elite program and that blew up in their face in the worst way. GT and Boston College are tiny schools with small resources in unfavorable recruiting areas. Miami is a small private university.

On the other hand, last I checked, Florida State removed their long-time iconic head coach while the national media and football fans everywhere crucified them, all because he had won only 7 games in 3 of his last 4 years (not losing seasons, just only 7 wins).

So that's it, then. It's done. The fix is arranged. It's Game Over and everybody knows the score. The BCS computers TKO Boise State. Why keep punching when it's not a fair fight?

Auburn and Oregon are No. 1 and No. 2 in the country according to Sunday's latest, most fraudulent compilation yet from the BCS rankings. If those two schools win the rest of their games, they'll play in the BCS Championship Game.

And Boise State? Members of football's lowest caste system? It doesn't matter. The BSUntouchables play Louisiana Tech on Tuesday night, but they're just cleaning windows on the Titanic now. If Auburn and Oregon win out, Boise State can wipe out every opponent 50-0 and not make it in now. And the Broncos probably won't even if the Tigers and Ducks don't win out. Yes, we're talking about Auburn. The team that has 13 fewer wins over the past five seasons than Boise State.

Yes, we're talking about Oregon. The same team Boise State punched out last season 19-8.

It's the biggest rip-off since the Nigerian prince scam. It makes you wonder why you watch college football at all. What Boise State is being asked to do isn't doable. It's like trying to win a Cuban election. Or break into the Genovese family.

The Broncos are 6-0. They've won 20 straight games, the longest streak in the country. They've beaten two BCS automatic qualifiers -- 6th-ranked Virginia Tech and 24th-ranked Oregon State. Doesn't matter. BSU could whip the 103rd Infantry and it wouldn't get a sniff. The computers are in charge. The pod bay doors won't open.

Boise State is going to get seated at the kids' table again. The Broncos will go to some pointless bowl and beat somebody like they always do -- they've already bested Oklahoma and TCU in bowls like that -- and they'll come home with a win and a hatful of "You kids sure play with a lot of heart up there" put-downs from the BCS blazers.

Amazing, isn't it? NCAA Division I football is the only sport in the world where continued, uninterrupted, hats-in-the-air winning doesn't mean you keep progressing. For Boise State, it gets you a squirt of vinegar in the eye. It's a three-card Monty game and all they get is two cards. OK, here it comes. Say it: Boise State doesn't play anybody.

Boise State plays -- and beats -- whoever they throw at it. It thumped San Jose State 48-0. Wisconsin, which beat No. 1 Ohio State and No. 15 Iowa, only beat SJSU by 13, at home!

Boise State smashed Wyoming 51-6. Wyoming nearly beat Air Force and Air Force nearly beat Oklahoma. You're telling me Boise State couldn't beat OU? Oh, wait. It already did.

Boise State whipped Virginia Tech on the road. VT is undefeated in the ACC. Are you telling me Boise State wouldn't be carving up the ACC?

People think of Boise State as some kind of Tahitian ice skating team. It's not like the Broncos have to wait for the high school girls' field hockey team to get off the field at 5 p.m. before they can practice. They have killer facilities, blue or otherwise. They recruit against the best for the best. They have a head coach, Chris Petersen, who is 55-4 there. (Anybody remember Urban Meyer?) They've been to a bowl eight of the past nine seasons. They're trying to be the first BCS outsider to make the championship game, but who knew they'd have to whip a bunch of Geek Squadders, too?

"If they played anybody in the country," said Oregon's offensive coordinator, Mark Helfrich, who used to coach at Boise State, "they could give them a game. One time? Against anybody? Absolutely, they'd give them a serious game."

"If they played anybody in the country," said Oregon's offensive coordinator, Mark Helfrich, who used to coach at Boise State, "they could give them a game. One time? Against anybody? Absolutely, they'd give them a serious game."

"I think they'd be tough to beat," said Auburn's offensive line coach, Jeff Grimes, who also used to coach at Boise State. "They've proven that. They could beat anybody on any given Saturday. Could they win every Saturday in the SEC? No. But who can?"

How would Grimes feel if he were the Boise State coach, getting more shaft than Chilean miners?

"I think I'd say, 'Bout time for a playoff, isn't it?'" Grimes said.

Exactly.

Of course, Petersen, who's just so annoyingly classy, won't say boo. "Coach Petersen likes to stay away from the topic," said a Boise State spokesman. "If he starts worrying about the polls and all the noise out there about it, it will just be a distraction to the team."

No, what Petersen needs to do is get noisy in Boise! He needs to be calling up reporters and seething about the short in the BCS mainframes. He should be asking anybody, How come your schizoid computers keep vaulting unworthy teams over us to No. 1? Two weeks ago it was Ohio State. They lost. Last week, it was Oklahoma. They lost. This week, it's Auburn. Who's the computer going to leapfrog us with next? Swarthmore?

Boise State's athletes and coaches deserve better than this dog's breakfast. Fix the crappy data going into the computers. Get rid of the SEC bias. Update the strength-of-schedule logarithms. This is 2010, not 1960. The difference between the old-school schools and the new-school schools is a butterfly's burp.

Sports isn't fun when you take the anything-can-happen out of it and that's exactly what the computers have done.

Better yet, get us a damn playoff.Yup.

MY BEEF: Iowa is the college football equivalent of a home wrecker. Man, for a team that never mounts it's own challenge for the national championship they sure blow up many a team's chances. That's annoying. You're good enough to knock off contenders yet don't do it on your own. Go to hell, Iowa.

Not to incite UM fans, but is Rich Rod a good fit for the Big Ten? It's kinda sad when this year's edition of Penn State football with our 3rd string QB starting drops 41 on ya. I believe the offense can flourish, but it's only half the equation. They're kinda soft.

Cam Newton looks legit.

I'm still holding out hope that Auburn (could happen) & Oregon (likely won't happen) lose, and Boise St. & TCU go undefeated and play each other in the National Championship Game. I think a national title game between 2 mid majors would be the major and much needed stepping stone to a playoff system in the FBS. The NCAA doesn't have a valid excuse as to why the FBS is the only division in all of collegiate sports that doesn't have a playoff system in place, and get rid of all this BCS bull****.

Boise's currently favored by 27 over Hawaii, which is considered one of their "toughest" games on their schedule. Please.

To which the people who run the BCS would say "See, our system works and allowed Boise and TCU to play for the national championship."

So no, that wouldn't do anything except just keep it going.

When nobody watches the games and the viewers all go away, the system will too.

Fairness will do nothing. Boise should never get a shot. Neither should TCU.Boise and TCU have been screwed over for years now. It hasn't brought us any closer to a playoff. Nobody that actually has the power to change things (the major conferences, the bowl sponsors, ESPN, CBS, the NCAA) care about Boise or TCU.

Sure, it gets random college football fans upset (and some Congressmen from Utah, Idaho, and Dallas), but none of us actually has any control over the system.

We'll get a plus-one system in a few years when the conference realignments shake out and everyone renegotiates their deals with the bowl games and the networks. Maybe at some point in the future it will expand to 8 teams or 10 teams. I think the 16-team playoff is a total pipedeam.

I don't think the outcome of this postseason will really affect how quickly we get a playoff. I think ACW is right that it would be bad if Boise or TCU makes the championship game and gets blown out by a major conference team. But even in that case, whichever major team gets left out will complain about the ranking system (e.g. if Oregon destroys TCU in the championship while a one-loss Alabama at #3 destroys someone in their bowl game, their fans will say they should have had a chance to play for the championship). Otherwise, whether Boise and TCU play each other for the championship, whether one of them beats a major conference team for the championship, or whether they get left on the outside looking in, fans will keep clamoring for a playoff.

no for 3 reasons.
#1. its better to lose early rather then late.
#2. they won't get the benefit of getting another quality win in the SEC championship.
#3 The winner of the SEC, in this case the winner of the East that beats Bama (gamecocks?) will likely be the only SEC team BCS bound. likely the Sugar bowl and not the BCSCG.... unless they let Bama in this case the SEC runner up play the BSU/ TCU snubbed team in some other bowl.

TCU's thrashing of Baylor looks a lot better now than it did when it happened. The winner of TCU-Utah will be in a pretty good spot for the national championship game. With both of them ranked in the top 5, it will be very difficult for any one-loss teams to jump ahead of them.

The most likely scenario for the championship game is the Mountain West winner against an undefeated Oregon, undefeated Auburn, or one-loss Alabama. Boise will probably need all those schools to lose, and might even have to worry about getting jumped by a Big 12 school.

Living in Oregon and originally from the east coast. Some people just don't get it with Oregon. I watch them on a regular basis as well as the SEC. Every single SEC team seems slow and pedestrian compared to the Ducks. This team is terrifying. They grind you to dust. They have the best chance to get to Glendale in January. If Alabama gets to the game (even with one loss it's still possible). I will go out on a limb here and say the ducks will most likely win by 25 pts. Nothing is guaranteed but the Ducks are the real deal.

I would not favor them by 25.

Oregon's starting DTs weigh about 255 each. Their DEs are obviously smaller. And their LBs are small as well.

A real power running offense (like say, an o-line with 300+ pounders with a Mark Ingram/Trent Richardson duo) would be able to bury those guys.

Oregon's offense is definitely legit though and would make it a game.

Yeah thats what I said on the other page, Alabama would just play ground and pound and control the clock, but Oregons O is lethal. That would really be a great game to watch though, the ultimate showcase of Smashmouth vs. Finesse, I'd love to see it.

UCF's program has really exploded in the last 5 or 6 years. That would be an interesting pick up for an in-conference rivalry if only because USF basically refuses to play UCF, but it'd be much harder to avoid it if they were in the Big East together.

I wonder why ECU isn't in consideration for this.

I would think Houston and TCU would want to go to the Big 12. Makes more sense to go there and replace Nebraska and Colorado. UCF, East Carolina to the Big East makes sense. He's all physical tools without a football IQ to match. And as we see so often, that's a great recipe for QB success in the NFL.

Texas doesn't really want anyone to come in. They basically want to chill out and run the Big 12 with OU, and collect as much cash as possible while dominating one of the top 3 states for football in the country in TV market and recruiting ground.

Right now it's an easy road to BCS success (especially with Nebraska heading to the Big 10), but once the super conference talk heats up again in a few years, they'll probably consider moving into the Pac-10 again.

That looks terrible. He looks like a life sized action figure or something.

I.) They shouldn't have colored it, just left it plain metallic.

2.) They should have crafted him in a passing stance, or having his arm outstreched, getting ready to throw the ball, that syance he's in looks retarded.

3.) If they have a statue of him, then they'd better have a statue of Vince Young ( I don't know if they do or not), he at least won them a National Championship, putting up one of the greatest single game performances of all time against one of the more dominant teams in recent college football history.

I like how there's no Longhorn design on the helmets, and the statues in general aren't very detailed except for the fact that the shoes appear to be Converse brand for some reason.

Also, sounds like the statues won't be on UT's campus since they weren't commissioned by Texas boosters or anyone related to UT athletics, but instead by the University Co-Op bookstore chain, and they're going to place the statues around the Co-Op parking lot where a lot of students tailgate before games.

Miami certainly tried.

But they couldn't afford him and he supposedly didn't want to get involved in the Shalala situation anyway, since he knew her presence and interference would prevent the program from really taking off.

I have no idea why people think Schiano is a good coach. He fattens up on a pathetic non conference schedule year in and year out and usually manages to go 7-5 or thereabouts. He's milking the 2006 season for all it's worth.

I don't really get it either, I mean Rutgers finished 8-4 last year in the regular season, but only 3-4 in Big East play.

But it's also Rutgers, so it's not like he has a lot of tools at his disposal to build a great program. The most hype Rutgers has gotten in years was during conference expansion talk, when people were discussing who would grab Rutgers to use them for a conference cable network.

Miami fans talk about Schiano though because he was the DC there from 1999 to 2000, and they did try to hire him after Coker got axed. So now it's like a "what could have been" scenario compared to Randy Shannon.

During the height of star quarterback Cam Newton's recruitment out of junior college last year, a man saying he represented Newton allegedly was soliciting a six-figure payment to secure his signature on a national letter-of-intent, ESPN.com has learned.

Former Mississippi State quarterback John Bond told ESPN.com a teammate of Bond's at Mississippi State in the early 1980s contacted him soon after Newton's official visit to Mississippi State during the Ole Miss game in December, and said he was representing Newton.

"He said it would take some cash to get Cam," Bond said. "I called our athletic director, Greg Byrne, and he took it from there. That was pretty much it." Multiple sources told ESPN.com that Mississippi State called the SEC office with Bond's information shortly after he brought it to the attention of the school.

The Pirates are a fun team to watch. They're like the Redskins in that they always try to "make games interesting" but they can handle their business, too. I'm loving our offense this year; but we've got a long way to go on defense. We're giving up too many yards and points. There were like a few hundred people on the field. Almost of them came from North, which is all students and by far the drunkest section of Lane. It was a night game, no one on the field was anything less than wasted. Drunk kids + game sealing pick against two of the most hated coaches (Paul Johnson and Al Groh) = some idiots running on the field.

And after my experience with the horrible fans in Charlotte I'm going to keep calling ECU fans stupid. I have never been around a ruder, more violent and ignorant fan base in my life. Some guy tried to throw me off the top deck because I was standing up and yelling when Tech was on defense. People mocked April 16th, threw beers at us...I watched a group of guys assault a female Tech student. I've never been to Morgantown but I've heard the stories and ECU was just like what I've heard about Morgantown. I had to ask police officers for help four times. Absolutely the worst experience I have ever had at a football game in my life.

So yeah, ECU fans are stupid.

I've heard rumors that it's really, really bad. But who knows yet. I'd be surprised if the NCAA really jumps into action that quickly. Although obviously if they do, then it is as bad as the rumors suggest, and Auburn as a program is in a whole lot of trouble.

If this story really is true though, it's not going to be the most surprising thing in the world. Auburn's had a reputation as one of the dirtiest programs in the SEC and Chizik doesn't mess around. The NCAA implemented the "Tiger Prowl" rule last year in response to Chizik sending his coaches to high schools in Auburn decorated stretch hummers, and Corey Lemonier somehow ended up at Auburn at the surprise to most, and then conveniently was spotted driving around a brand new yellow Corvette immediately after signing day.

But it's also the SEC, where this kind of stuff is fairly common place for the top players. I think it's interesting that some people are saying that they won't vote for Newton for the Heisman now because of this. I think that's premature. At least wait until he's actually ruled ineligible.

Listen, I don't condone any of those actions; but you're dealing with an usual situation there. You were at a neutral site with an especially rotten group.

I'll admit, some ECU fans (especially students) are a little more rowdy that others. If you go to Dowdy-Ficklen, they put the opposing fans in their own part of the stadium; or they'll sit you down with the general admission crowd on the press box side.

But at least it'd be entertaining. There are a few teams that manage to be entertaining in a blowout. Oregon's one. The Mike Leach TTU was another.

Interesting? Maybe. Entertaining? Hell no, they're gonna walk the Huskies by 60 points.

The best thing Spartacus87 ever did on ES was introduce me to EDSBS.

Comparing Florida's season to noted 80's star flick Top Gun (http://www.everydayshouldbesaturday.com/2010/11/4/1793102/the-florida-gators-and-the-movie-top-gun)

When "Goose" was killed during a training incident in the movie Top Gun , that was like Florida losing to Alabama earlier in the year. In case you don't follow Florida Gator Football closely, like I do, the exact moment Goose was killed was when Burton threw the Jump Pass Interception at the goal line.
-
At that point in the game we had just drove the ball right down the field like a hot knife through soft butter. When we did not score at the goal line, and threw that pick, that was when Goose died, and Maverick (the Florida Gators) went into a funk. It wasn't that the Florida Gators suddenly didn't have some of the best talent in the nation, They always have, it was at that exact point, the coaching staff and the players, lost their swagger. It was just like when Maverick lost his.
-
When Florida lost to LSU and MISS STATE the following weeks, that was the part in the movie Top Gun when Maverick, played by Tom Cruise, rode around on his motorcycle brooding about his father's legacy and feeling guilty about that jump pass on the goal line.

ROFL.

The statues aren't being paid for by UT's athletic department or boosters.

They're being put in place by a local major independent bookstore chain near the UT campus.

I didn't mean Charlotte, I was in Greenville.

Not really sure why the commentators feel bad for Butch Davis. Talking about how its been "such a rough year for him" "hardest coaching job in the country" "the suspensions really stung him"...

Do they REALLY think that Butch had no idea what was going on? With all the money, academic issues etc does ANYONE really think Butch wasn't involved at all?

I don't feel bad for any of them. Recruit the right way, stop buying players off and then I'll respect UNC.

Sun Life Stadium is definitely too big for Miami--heck, it would be too big for most college football teams. But Miami has shown again and again that they are have by far the WORST fans of any major city in the country.
