Only a few hours left before the purging of trash begins.

All over the country, Dems are scurrying through their offices, trying to steal anything that isn't nailed down. Paintings, chairs....petty cash drawers are being cleaned out.

Alan Grayson is already at the male strip club, putting as many drinks as time permits onto the corporate card.

Let the cleansing begin.

Asbury, it's the little things in life that bring me so much joy.

Now sit back and enjoy the purging. The Turk calls.

True purging would necessitate elimination of the trash on both sides of the aisle.

Yes, removing moderate Democrats in rural areas for far right Republicans. Leaving us with only far left Democrats and far right Republicans. Yay! :ols:

If scumbags like Rangel and Maxine Waters just stay in office with no reprocussions from their party, then Americans will punish their party at the voting booths.

It's time to send a message. Bring out your dead.

The whole system is awful. That doesn't excuse keeping trash in offfice. The voters sent a clear message to Bush years ago, and they'll send another to the dems tonight.

And in time, maybe even a third party will emerge on a large scale.

Actually, the system is fine. The people who populate the system are the problem.
The voters consistently send one message "We're pissed! So we'll try what we know doesn't work again!"
Which to them translates to "What a bunch of suckers."
...and the cycle continues.

Here's a bold prediction: in 2 years the voters will be pissed again.
And in another two years the voters will be pissed again.

And in another two years the voters will be pissed again.

And in another two years the voters will be pissed again.

And in another two years the voters will be pissed again.

And in another two years the voters will be pissed again.

And in another two years the voters will be pissed again.

And in another two years the voters will be pissed again.

And the same carousel will spin and spin and spin and spin..

And the only people who will be better off for it... are not you, not me, not anyone but the perpetuators of the same broken ideas time and time and time and time again.

2 Years ago, the left wing here and in the media claimed the GOP was dead. Now the line is "well of course they're winning because people are pissed and will be in two years."

To that I answer- Maybe. But the GOP failed last time because they acted like Dems. If they actually act like Conservatives, they'll be fine long term.

I doubt you see the parties like the Dems threw in 06 and 08, the GOP knows the mood of the people and will respond appropriately. And if they dont, then they'll probably lose again in 2012.

I didn't know that was the "line"
It seems to me to be an assessment of the facts as I've seen them in 25 years worth of elections.
Anger is the only thing we know anymore. it is the number one reason both of them give us to vote for one or the other.

So your message is: don't vote for anyone affiliated with a party?

If not, how do you propose to fix things?

So your message is: don't vote for anyone affiliated with a party?

If not, how do you propose to fix things?

I think the first step is to stop playing "team ball"
Obviously we're kind of stuck with the two parties dominating.. and I refuse to believe that such large organizations are completely devoid of anyone competent or honest.

The problem as I see it is we have a sliding scale for disgust and anger. People defend their team regardless of what they do, and as such, both teams see that it doesn't really matter what they do, half of us are willing to support them.

It is We the People who must form a unified front. They'll only stop being scoundrels if we stop checking to see which letter is behind their name before we decide whether or not they are indeed scoundrels.
I'd say a fine start there is to get rid of the "ethics" committee. It is as obvious as the nose on my face that very few of them have any semblance of ethics at all, and allowing them to police themselves like that is ridiculously insulting to us. This is why guys like Rangel fleece the country and get off with a hand slap. (In fact, why he was so aghast at the hand slap itself. To him he did nothing wrong, and expected his colleagues to cover for him. His reaction spoke volumes as to the joke that committee is) He's part of the club, and we need to destroy the club and police it ourselves independent of the parties.
Hard.

As for the parties..right. The GOP, especially the TPers, will party like there is no tomorrow. They cannot help themselves from bending over backwards and kissing their own ass.

But the GOP failed last time because they acted like Dems.

Not even close.

The GOP failed because they acted like the GOP has been acting for 30 years.

Legislate the religious right's social agenda.
Change the rules that the government operates by, to make things more partisan.
Cut taxes on the rich.
Increase military spending.
When the deficit goes up, act surprised, look around, and try to blame somebody else.
When people complain about the deficit, announce that you would be willing to mandate that the other party balance the deficit, if you can guarantee that they will propose doing what you want to do, but won't propose, yourself.
Accuse any dissent of being anti-American.
Repeal as many laws regulating big business as you can. The laws you can't repeal, simply stop enforcing.
Deregulation, however, doesn't apply to citizens, only corporations. Citizens are subject to whatever the Religious Right wants.

And they are promising, if elected, to keep doing the same thing

But you are right. Huge failure by the Dems and the GOP came back swimming.

And yes, they will be partying a LOT tonight. In fact, many members of this board said they would be doing it.

You liked Obamacare? Americans don't. And if you voted for it, you are done.

You thought allowing scumbags like Rangel and Maxine Waters to keep their jobs would go unpunished? No.

You thought the Repubs were always voting "No", and not allowing programs to be passed? Americans didn't want those programs.

The Turk is hungry. Very, very hungry.

But the GOP failed last time because they acted like Dems.
The GOP failed because the ideology behind the GOP is hot garbage and it finally resulted in a near economic collapse. Telling people not to have faith in government so that you can deregulate and push self regulation damn near sunk the western world's financial sector. Instead of reflecting on just how suicidal and frankly stupid you have to be to allow for profit companies with legal responsibility not to care about anything but profit to self regulate... you blamed the lack of Red Lining. Apparently the US forgot about the role that played in the civil rights movement or maybe it was just more southern strategy... either way it was moronic and not a single republican was ever able to hold that nonsense to the light of day. Now the GOP is back and too humiliated to have Bush even show his face on the campaign trail and too smart to even mention the words "deregulation" but have they changed their suicidal stance? Hell no. They'll be pushing deregulation as hard as they ever did just like they did when congress tried to pass reform aimed at wall street.

If the GOP ever gains control again they'll hold it until their ridiculous ideology screws everything up again. And we'll do this all over again.

edit... and you couldn't get rid of Harry friggin Reid?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! The one senator I wanted to lose... I had the misfortune of hearing him speak personally a month ago. Goodness how this man is a politician is beyond me.

I'm going to repeat myself--

I'll tell you the one big positive I hope coming out from tonight. There were a lot of really entrenched politicians who got the boot yesterday much as happened in 06. I think 20 plus years in Washington wears you down, erodes you, you start to play the game and lose sight of your convictions and ideals too much. There's also too much bad blood. Too much that has been done that causes bitterness. The rhetoric or more importantly the behaviors become personalized. I strongly believe that a part of the Dems misbehavior over the last two years is not because of bad philosophy, but the want for revenge over what was done to them over the Delay and Bush years.

New blood can't carry that same level of being wronged. Hopefully, we'll be well served by the men and women elevated to Congress tonight.

God bless America.

step 1) stop the train that is headed for the cliffs. You only need the power to put on the brakes to complete step 1.
step 2) turn the train around. this is much harder. if they do a good job with step 1, then the Republicans might be given the chance to try step 2 in 2012.

I heard PJ O'Rourke on the radio this morning and he said something to the effect that stopping the government from doing "bad" is often more important than having the government do "good"

hitting the brakes on the bad has a fairly short shelf life, once the train is stopped from going the wrong direction, they better have a solid plan of action to get it headed in the right direction.

The Dems mistakingly took Obama's election to be a mandate for a liberal policy. Instead of a backlash against Bush.

The last thing this country ever wanted was a liberal policy--no more than they want an ultra-conservative policy. And last night, the voters revolted against Obama, and any liberal agenda.

The Turk is full, and is now satisfied.

As has been displayed twice in the past 10 years, no political party can handle controlling all the power. Tonight was a win for all of us. Perhaps not a huge win, but a win nonetheless.

Exactly, now there is balance in the Force... hopefully.
