The story looks pretty cool and I'm a big fan of the way they've done the marketing thus far, but the gameplay to me doesn't look like anything special. Also, CANNOT wait for Skyrim.

Yeah, I can't take another $60 disappointment after Black Ops. Probably wait until November and pick up MW3. Hopefully Infinity Ward won't have fallen off too much with all the crap that went down after MW2.

So China just lets Korea have Asia and the U.S.? Not to mention any kind of European aid. I dunno, I don't get it.

I like the premise of a game where the U.S. actually has to play defense on its own soil for once, but that seems like an odd scenario in so many ways.

This is correct. Infitinty Ward is no longer on the COD team. Tryarch is the developer I believe now, in place of Infinity Ward. They would switch off on who made the next COD, but Infinity Ward has bowed out. I liked Infinity Wards work better then Tryarch though.
This game is going to be SICK! The levels will be huge, as in making COD maps look like a studio apt compared to Homefront. Also, parts of the level will open up as the siege goes on, or as objectives are met. This is to break up the camping/mindless wandering around levels getting shot up. The levels will be much larger then Battlefield 2's levels, and the vehicles (like helecopters) will be more user friendly and fun to operate.

I cannot wait for this game. The reviews I have heard have all been very positive, and as some has said, after the pie in the face that COD Black Ops was, this game can potentially be what I was looking for.

Im excited about this game.

However, Skyrim for the win and a half! When does it come out anyways?

I just started playing Oblivion this past Christmas. I love the game, but am not even close to finished yet due to lack of free time. Truthfully, I probably won't play Skyrim for a few years, until the Game of the Year edition comes out with whatever expansion packs they decide to release.

RE: Infinity Ward

What I read yesterday stated that 2 of their top level employees were forced out and that many of their staff left because of it. But the company is still supposedly doing MW3, but a lot of the employees are different this time around.

This. I'm so tired of being in Afghanistan, 'Nam, Brazil, Eastern Europe, etc. Finally, a "modern warfare" type of game that takes place on US Soil. Pretty original if you ask me.

Yeah, the idea seems pretty far fetched, but I'm not too worried about the back story. I just look forward to playing multiplayer maps that are all set in the U.S.

I've already heard that there is a "Lumber Liquidators" multiplayer map, where you're in the giant parking lot outside the store. How cool is that? :)

This game is made by the same company (Codemasters) that made Turning Point Fall of Liberty. In that game the Nazis are attacking New York city and you are a construction worker thrust into combat. Great idea for a game but the actual gameplay was garbage and the graphics sucked. I suspect this game will be the same. Cool story but crappy game play.

Its not going to suck. Its going to be like the Battlefield series, with vehicles that are more fun to operate, and a lot of cool and unique bells and whistles that will make the game fun. They usually give something away for pre-ordering it, like DLC or something similer. Do you know what if anything is being offered?

The only thing we can do is pray that Infinity Ward never has the opportunity to make a COD game ever again. They managed to ruin COD 4 with equiping people with 3 grenades that leveled anyone around them within 50ft. And MW2....hahah. Biggest piece of junk company to ever make COD. Your in the minority for black ops here, cause the game is perfect. This homefront game looks pretty good I'll probably try it out.

I don't want to hijack this thread......But MW2 was the biggest fail ever in COD and you won't find to many people who would disagree. I just hope games like these start taking over for the COD series. If Infinity Ward makes the next COD I will move on to something else rather than wasting money on an incompetent company who doesn't know how to produce games. Hopefully this homefront game is going to be as good as the trailers/gameplay is looking.

awesome. I knew it was good, and I have it pre-ordered (you get two separate DLC's for pre-ordering) but i don't get out of work until 20:00, home by 22:00 so I wont be playing it until about eleven tonight. Now all i need is the Gears of War 3 beta to come out, and between homefront, GOW3 beta, and NBA2K11, im good until Skyrim comes out.

I have read that the graphics are about equal to Halo type graphics, but that's because the environments are huge, and the levels expand. Im ok with compromising grpahics for game play. Whats the use of playing a really pretty game if it plays like crap?

Graphics are definitely sub par. The servers were getting hammered last night with so many people it was almost impossible to get on to play. I played for a while earlier in the day and so far I'm not all that impressed.

Seems like there's always too much going on. Drones on the ground, in the air, choppers, vehicles, airstrikes, etc. Hopping in a vehicle seems pointless too, I've never lasted longer than 20 seconds or so before somebody takes me out. And despite the bigger maps someone always seems to be behind you or sniping you from across the map.

I'm going to keep giving it a chance, I like the concept, just not sure it's going to be enough to hold my interest for long. It just doesn't play as smoothly as COD either. Seems choppy, kinda hard to explain.

I'm just so sick of FPS games, and online play. But for people who like this genre, whew have they got their hands permanently in your wallets. I mean, you basically HAVE to move on to the next big FPS eventually, because the droves of like-minded gamers move on, eventually making it impossible to play the older games online in the same fashion. Its like a constant revolving door...I'd rather play some games that have longevity, that you can get your money's worth out of. I mean, by the time you can by one of these games used at a good price at a Gamestop, there's no point, because the next big thing is out and everyone's bought it and moved on...and the single player mode has very little re-playability.

I played last night as well. The graphics are average, i dont think they are as bad as some make it out. The draw distance is huge though. There is a lot going on, but because it is team oriented, some of the game modes are dependent on communication and teamwork. Id get mopped up sometimes, but in the rooms that there wasa aconstant communication (about the game) going on, it was much more fun. There are a couple of different/ unique games modes as well. The FPS controls and gameplay seem a tiny bit slow, almost clunky at times, but i think its because im not used to the flow of the game yet. The storyline is great though, and playing through the story mode the first chapter gets your heart pumping as you see the progressive destruction of the US going on. It has a lot of potential, especially with dedicated servers. I think the game has loads of potential and will keep playing for a while.

I like this game so far. yes, the graphics aren't great, but as others have already mentioned, i think it's because the maps are so big and expand as the battle goes on.

this game is absolutely NOTHING like COD, so it's definitely a nice change of pace. It'll hold me over until Uncharted 3 and Battlefield 3 come out in the fall/winter. Black Ops and Killzone will still be in rotation, but this game will get a lot of play from me as well.

if anybody from the Playstation crew has it, add me. "Matt-chew82" about 5 people on my crew have this game, and partying up/communicating definitely helps in this game. Much more so than call of duty.

I gave up, sold the game on Amazon for $40. For the 3 days I had it I only got to play about 30 minutes online. If I saw another "servers unavailable" message I was gonna flip. I got burned on Medal of Honor and now this. One of these days I'll learn.

Im still playing the single player story. Pretty good, and now that I have the hang of the controls it doesn't feel nearly as slow or clunky. Pretty good game in my opinion. Playing later at night during the week, I didn't have as many server problems. When Black Ops first came out, there was so much lag in all the rooms it was ridiculous, and I was hard wired into the modem, no router. Its problematic of most good FPS when they come out, but these things get worked out.

There have been some problems with the servers being swamped because KAOS admitted they didn't know the game would do so well. I've been trolling the forums and apparently they will have more servers up and running by the end of this week.

LOL. I kinda liked Battlefield, but the snipers were just too much. In the Call of Duty games and in Homefront, there is plenty of cover to hide behind.

But with Battlefield's large and wide open maps, the camping snipers were just too much for me. having to run 45 seconds to run back to the action when spawning, only to get picked off by a camper hiding in a tree with a 12X scope sniper rifle...i couldn't deal with it LOL.

I played through the story mode and the only complaint I really had was that it was short... only six chapters? I hope they DLC some mor echapters, or ranother story. it was very engulfing, and gritty, and I liked it.

I played all weekend with no server issues.

I like this game. The game modes and perk variations are pretty cool. Running around with that wolverine drone with the perks for it is pretty cool. I also like how vehicles are easy to destroy and not just rolling fortresses.

Battlefield is a good game, no complaints with that, there just arent as many players as there used to be, especially after Black Ops and now Homefront came out. Homefront is a good game though. very solid.

one of the things i love most about the game...the maps are so big. especially on ground control when you can fall back two different ways.

I just hope KAOS gets the servers fixed so they don't lose a lot of their fans. The game sold A LOT better than they expected it to, so the servers are just swamped, which is a good thing. Don't end up blowing it and not getting the problems fixed in a timely manner to where they might lose some folks.

Okay, I'm seriously lacking an understanding of some of the basic concepts of this game. First of all, if you leave a drone, does it ever do anything at all again or does it just sit there even if someone is shooting it from five feet away?

Second, when calling in an airstrike, is there supposed to be a way to recognize who's who? Unless you've got the layouts of the maps memorized - which I don't - when the black and white targeting screen comes up, I can't tell who I'm aiming at.

Third, how do you get points to improve your infantry skills? I'm up to something like Level 15 and still haven't been able to change anything.

And fourth, is getting a bunch of kills just something that comes with a good understanding of the maps and absurdly quick trigger finger? I can often win HALO deathmatches, but in HF, 10 kills in a single round is a very good round for me, while the leader usually has around 30. I've tried camping, I've tried sniping, I've tried just sprinting into a fight over and over again, but nothing seems to work.

I've tried camping, I've tried sniping, I've tried just sprinting into a fight over and over again, but nothing seems to work.

I'll try to tackle this one.

1) Drones. you control them. you can leave a drone early (before it's battery life runs out), and it will sit idle in the air or on the ground. If it isn't destroyed while idle, you CAN get back to it and continue to use it. (not sure if i answered your question)

2) Airstrikes. There are red boxes around enemy players when using airstrikes, much like when using a chopper gunner in Call of Duty. You can also zoom in with airstrikes by using the aim button (just realized that myself this weekend). Sometimes they are hard to see, so try to be patient as you have about 20 seconds to fire the airstrikes before the predator's battery runs out. Now that i've got the hang of it, i've been getting at least a triple kill with phosphorus strikes most of the time.

3) Custom Classes. I believe you have to hit level 10 or so to begin to customize your classes. The very first class then unlocks and allows you to select a weapon and "infantry abilitiy" (aka "perks"). Once you get a certain amount of kills with a weapon, it unlocks different attachments. red dots, grenade launchers, holo sights, acog sights, silencer, etc. as you continue to rank up, you'll go down the list of classes until all 5 are unlocked. (again, hope i answered your question)

4) Kills. Kills aren't quite as easy to come by. Usually those players with 80% of their teams kills are the ones who call in the Apache helicopter. Because most people are still low in rank, they haven't unlocked certain weapons that can shoot down aircraft and haven't unlocked the "boomer" perk (danger close equivalent) which does more explosive damage to vehicles. Once the community ranks up a lot more, Apaches won't mean easy kills because they'll easily be shot down. I consider myself a "good" player, and I average a k/d of around 1.5, usually 15-5, or something like that. I'm aggressive and I go for objectives, but i also play cautiously and move from cover to cover as I move around the map. Also, a quick tip. the personal UAV is BY FAR the best killstreak in the game. :)

It's too bad, too. From the friends that i've talked to and random people i chat with in games, most people seem to LOVE this game, when it works. Such a great change of pace from Call of Duty. I thought Battlefield was okay, but I absolutely love this game. if you visit the Homefront forums on the game's main website, most folks tend to agree. Everybody LOVES this game, when it works. LOL. Devs say they are working on getting a patch out by Friday. We'll see what happens.[COLOR="Gold"]

Really? I thought the reviews made it sound pretty mediocre. One line I read: "feels like a budgeted playstation 2 game."

This. It's getting a 71 on metacritic (kinda like rottentomatoes.) That's a pretty average score. The user reviews are even worse.

82, awesome, very helpful. A couple follow-ups:

1) Do enemies show up in red boxes for a Hellfire strike? That's all I have right now, and I haven't seen the boxes. (And speaking of that, when the hell do better airstrikes become available? Like I said, I'm Level 15.)

2) Are you supposed to be able to use the perks on guns you pick up? I've picked up guns with, say, grenade launcher attachments, and so far haven't been able to launch grenades.

I think i may try renting this to see for myself. The story line seems interesting if you don't think about it to much. Like most games though, I only use playing through the story as training for the online mode.

I don't understand all the hate for Black Ops. Now I am someone who gets a game and sticks with it for a while. i think the last game I played for an extended period is was a Rainbow Six game. But I bought Black Ops and am addicted. Just ask my wife. So why all the hate? And what makes these other games so much better? And remember, no one really cares about story line because we all know its all about the online mode.

Renting this game may cause some problems if the game does not include the code you need to register before you can play. Anyone else have issues with it after they entered the code and it never seem to accept it?

So did White Castle, Hooters, etc pay to get screen time in this game, or did they get paid??

i was wondering this myself.

Also, to those who have played the game. BESIDES the obvious server problems, do you like the game itself? When you have been able to get online and into a match, did you enjoy the gameplay? I absolutely LOVE this game, and there are thousands on the various homefront forums who love the game as well. Many of the die hard fans are furious that Homefront got such average reviews.

Again, just FYI, the Homefront developers expect to have a "fix all" patch released either Friday or Saturday...

Finally hope is on the horizon:

- Xbox 360: The Homefront team is finishing up our first Critical Title Update that will address the Profile Corruption issue (also known as the ‘Freeze’ bug), as this is our highest priority. We are also including a fix for multiplayer connectivity and ping time issues, where players are being sent to distant server locations at the expense of performance. We expect this update to be submitted to Microsoft and Sony really soon and we will be working with them very closely to get this approved and deployed as quickly as possible.

Homefront Update Plans

1. Update 1: Xbox 360 Critical Title Update
- Scheduled for Microsoft Submission in the next day or two
- Fixing the Xbox Live Profile Corruption ‘Freeze’ Issue
- Fix for players being matched in distant server locations

2. Update 2: Additional Game Issues Fixes
- Playstation 3 Update will release as soon as fixes are ready.
- Xbox 360 will submit as soon as Update 1 is released live.
- Fixes include:
o Multiplayer Freezing (affecting X360 & PS3)
o Experience and Statistics Resets (affecting X360 & PS3)
o Improving Party Matchmaking & Joining with Friends (affecting X360 & PS3)
o Fixing the Beacon Error (affecting X360 only)
o Correcting inconsistent Leaderboards data (affecting X360 & PS3)

To me this is starting to sound like a game you either love or hate. You will have the crowd that is in the "love" corner who will defend it to the end. Then you will have the crowd in the "hate" corner who will nitpick every little problem. I don't want to go out, buy it and end up in the hate crowd. That is what has me shying away from this game.

have you seen any multiplayer videos? the gameplay itself is pretty awesome. again, HUGE change of pace from Call of Duty. It's more like Battlefield in that you have to think more and use tactics to get kills. As much as I love Black Ops, I admit its really nothing more than a reaction time race. who sees who first, who has rapid fire, and who has the better connection LOL.

I dont think i ever used the term garbage... Did I? Please stop inserting words into my mouth. I think what I said leaves little room to infer as you are doing.

Looking over all my post's in this thread, I never once called the game garbage, and defend it for the most part. I criticize the bugs/glitches, but if you read back into my earlieer posts, most games (COD included) when they first come out go through growing pains.

I like the game a lot, but until they fix the bugs, I cant love it. never once said it was garbage though.

Tomorrow is good. I was going to hang on until the weekend just to give it time, but tomorrow would be great. Its definiteely a co-op game wrapped into an adverserial FPS. I love love love the Battle Commander mode where the other team will start to mark you and send people after you if you get on a roll. I like the drone and drone perks a lot. It's chuck full of bugs and the graphics are PS2 quality, that initial patch list is embarrassing really. To have that many problems at launch is just inexcusable.

I apologize, I used the word one time, and didn't say the game was garbage, only saying it was playing like garbage RIGHT NOW, and this was because of the bugs. Again, I elborated on my stance and even was specific when using the word garbage. So I guess its a "meet in the middle" type thing. I may have used the word garbage once, but you are reading too much into me using that word one time, especially when I explain myself pretty clearly in multiple other posts.

This actually a pretty fair assesment. I havent played since the patch... i couldn't get online this morning around eight thirty AM, so hopefully some of these bugs will be worked out. battlefield is a really good game. Very good. The destructable environments are great and its a lot of fun to play. Battlefields big drawback right now is that there just isn't the same amount of players. When people start leaving a room because their team is losing, the rooms never really repopulate like they used to.

I think if the bugs get worked out, the game has loads of potential. Also, your team has to be communicating. Whatever happened to that anyways? Most FPS games in general the teams are silent, and in this game especially, communication makes the game leaps and bounds better. Fingers crossed that the bugs get worked out.

has anyone played since the patch?

yeah i played through the campaign. Its short, but i liked it. The whole campaign mode is "gritty" and emotion evoking.

Im going to stick it out for a while longer. My hope is that the patch will fix most of the bugs, and that the KOAS team can clean the rest of it up with relative ease. I like the game, not the glitches.

I haven't played a shooter that had good teamwork and communication since SOCOM on the PS2. When I first started played Battlefield BC2 I thought there would be a lot of communication going on but there's nothing at all. The camping was too much for me. More realistc obviously, as you can't just go sprinting out in the open and not expect to get picked off. But Battlefield 2 just didn't click for me. And its not like I didn't give it a fair chance, I had over 2 days worth of time online.

OH MY GOD. This game is AMAZING. Was able to get a party of 3 together for the first time...we ran for about 3 hours non-stop. Soooo much fun! The haters can finally stop hating!!

I'm going to go ahead and say that Homefront is the most fun I've had online since Killzone 2 back in 2009. This game is awesome!!!! Now that more and more servers are coming online every day, this game is FINALLY playable and ready to take off! Feel sorry for you folks who gave up on it and traded/sold it already!

I admit that 3-5 minutes to find a lobby is still kind of annoying, but once you find a lobby, you're good to go. KAOS is still working the server issue and will have it completely be fixed completely by Wednesday. :)

And c'mon son, let's be fair here. Most FPS games have problems the first week or so. I myself am the ultimate Call of Duty fanboy, but Black Ops was a clustermuck the first week it came out as well. freezes galore, party system not working, super lag, being disconnected from games. Yeaahhhh, this game blows. No one should have to wait 3-5 minutes to find a game. Doesn't matter if they are "fixing" it later this week. That should never happen.

Personally, i'm tired of these "COD" retreads. The one different thing is earning BP to spawn in vehicles which I thought was pretty cool. Other than when I COULD get into a room I was bored pretty quickly. No way is the game worth $60.

Skins_Fan82

There are a lot of people that would agree with you, boysetsfire. i've read a ton of reviews form people saying they just flat out don't like the game. :(

I would argue that calling this game a call of duty retread is a bit of a stretch. I actually think Homefront is NOTHING like COD. To me, Homefront is more like Battlefield 2 and Medal of Honor than anything else. The game "feels" and "plays" completely different from COD. That's actually one of the reasons I like Homefront so much...its nothing like Black Ops. Breath of fresh air.

The killstreaks are totally different from COD. To my knowledge, there have never been controllable air or ground drones in COD, and definitely not any tanks and humvees. Homefront has vehicles galore. Not to mention the completely original battle points system, where points earned from objectives go towards killstreaks and you don't need to stay alive to hit killstreaks (which means less camping). Just build up points overtime and buy whatever killstreak you want. :)

Okay, I'll stop being a fanboy now LOL. I've said enough already. :)

I just went and bought this used from Gamestop for $10 off the price of new. They said I can return it in 7 days if it sucks. I'll let you know what my opinion of the game is soon.

So here is my opinion, take if for what its worth.

Thank God that Gamestop lets you return used games for full cash back within 7 days. I'll be returning it tomorrow.

1) not really a problem with the game as much as the store. The used game was $10 less than the new game. But the code you need to get online costs $10 if it has been used before. So it makes more sense to just buy the new game. Again, more a Gamestop problem but I don't like that you have to use a code at all. Just make it so that if you have the disk, you can get online.

2) Online sucked. Took forever to get in a lobby and then they kept closing. Now I did not buy the code (since I had a used game but am going to return it) so I could play up to level 5. I played to level 3. Took me about 15 minutes. And I wish i could get that time back. Once I was finally in a game, there were serious lag/freezing issues. The graphics were sub-par. And there weren't many options for different "themes" (ie. CTF, Domination, deathmatch for you COD fans). I went right back to Black Ops.

3) The storyline of the game seemed neat and I at least wanted to finish that. I thought I would have to play all night, every night to get the game returned in 7 days. Wrong! It took me about 2 hours of playing to beat the game. And the story line never developed past what you hear in the commercials.

All around fail. I wish I had listened to some of the people on this board. Sure, I'll get my money for the game back from Gamestop. But I feel ripped off still because of the money spent on gas and the overall time wasted.

Thank you for your time.

EDIT: I was using a PS3.
