With Anderson Russell's elevation to the active roster (http://blog.redskins.com/2010/11/08/chris-horton-to-ir-anderson-russell-to-active-roster/), the Redskins announced that safety Sha'Reff Rashad has been signed to the practice squad. Rashad played his college ball at Central Florida and spent preseason -- as you can see above -- with the New York Giants. Here's Mike Garafolo of the The Star-Ledger writing about Rashad (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2009/05/rookie_safety_shareff_rashad_a.html) during the Giants' rookie camp:

Rashad (whose first name is pronounced Sha-REEF) is a rookie free agent safety out of Central Florida who was nearly a late draft pick for the Giants. Safeties coach David Merritt said the team discussed selecting Rashad, who had 14 career interceptions in college. But the Giants instead chose a pair of CBs instead in the sixth and seventh rounds in DeAndre Wright and Stoney Woodson. They felt fortunate they were able to sign Rashad to a three-year deal as a free agent.

So far, it looks like a very promising signing at a position that isn't very deep. Though it was merely rookie camp, Rashad was impressive, as he made a few plays on the ball and also showed excellent awareness in run support.
Garafolo also unearthed this somewhat remarkable anecdote:
Knights defensive back Johnell Neal, who was shot four times in the abdomen last May and then returned to the field, credited Rashad with helping him on his way back to the field last season.

"He's one of those people I wanted to be around as soon as possible after I got shot," Neal told the Orlando Sentinel last October. "Even if I never got better and never played football again, I needed to be around my teammates because we're all like brothers."
So he's apparently a pretty good dude, and there's plenty more worth reading about him at Garafolo's original post (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2009/05/rookie_safety_shareff_rashad_a.html).

The team also released WR Ray Small and signed less-small receiver Taurus Johnson, out of South Florida, to fill his space on the practice squad. At 6-1, 218, Johnson has the size the Redskins have been lacking in the receiving corps since Malcolm Kelly went on injured reserve, although it remains to be seen how Johnson actually plays; his most recent stop was with the UFL's Hartford Colonials, where he had 9 catches for 118 yards and 2 touchdowns before being released.

I couldn't find any video of his UFL days, but here's some college highlights to give you a sense of the guy
