I don't post in the stadium much so maybe it has always been like this but I am amazed how many fans on here are really mean to each other. I am not posting this because I got in a little argument today but rather just reading all the reactions in many of the threads. People posting I told you so threads and saying that others are idiots because they disagreed with them. We are all going to have different opinions on this team but I mean we are all skins fans we all love this team.

Me too, but all that losing wears some down. They begin to expect bad things to happen and to wish ill on their own team.

I was at a sports bar for today's game and I couldn't believe how many fans were shouting and sure that Gano would miss.

I'm the PERFECT example! You guys in DC get to watch these games at home. I have to watch them in sports bars, surrounded by wretched Skins fans.

Thank you. I had this same conversation with my father just the other day. I used to think the Redskin fan base was well educated in football sense. But listen to 106.7 for 10 minutes and you will realize that the 'Skins fan base is just as emotional and disconnected as Dallas/Philly fans. It appears like the fan 'knowledge' comes from regurgitated sound bites from the idiots on FOX pre-game or emotional loonies like Lavar. It irritates me that that all NFL coverage has devolved to the lowest common denominator of flip flop wearing, big gulp slurping cretins as it has. Unfortunately, the fan base of my dearly beloved Redskins has had so many years of poor performance, that many fans don't know what 'good football' or 'good football sense' is anymore. No one can objectively look at a team for what it is, and unfortunately in a market that focuses on ratings and the almighty $$ there is no such thing as an intelligent conversation from the media anymore.

What do you expect?

Over the past few seasons we've all watched the Saints WIN a SB, the Cardinals get to one and almost win it, the Chiefs won 10 games, the Falcons are the best team in the Conference, WTF? When will our team be one of the 3-4 teams that come out of nowhere every year?

The best thing about this season to me is another negative, at least Dallas completely fell flat on their face. (But then they still beat us once, WTF?)

These teams that "come out of nowhere" all have lots of young talent. That's the trick. You'll never "come out of nowhere" with one of the oldest teams in the league.

because just like in government, people are more concerned with "proving" they are right, then accepting other alternatives, or that they may just be "wrong" for the betterment of everybody, including themselves.

As I have said before in other threads, many of our own fans are more concerned with being "right" about their ideas about how the Washington Redskins should be run, then for the team to actually succeed. Just like in life, everybody else can tell you how to do your job, until they have to do your job.

December-28th-2010, 02:43 AM
Well, the anger comes from the frustration of stinking it up season after season and recognition of the atrocious mismanagement of team operations over the past decade.

Add in rampant stupidity that is prevalent amongst the human species and even moreso amongst the majority of people who spend a significant amount of time posting on internet message boards and you've got a perfect formula for what you're seeing here.

It's unfortunate. Oh well. After awhile, one becomes adept at wading through the hate and stupidity and pinpointing intelligent posts and posters who are actually worth responding to and interacting with. :D

This board has always been lenient with ad hominem attacks. Some of the moderators have been among the offenders.

From the Nizkor Project:

An Ad Hominem is a general category of fallacies in which a claim or argument is rejected on the basis of some irrelevant fact about the author of or the person presenting the claim or argument. Typically, this fallacy involves two steps. First, an attack against the character of person making the claim, her circumstances, or her actions is made (or the character, circumstances, or actions of the person reporting the claim). Second, this attack is taken to be evidence against the claim or argument the person in question is making (or presenting). This type of "argument" has the following form:

Person A makes claim X.
Person B makes an attack on person A.
Therefore A's claim is false.

The reason why an Ad Hominem (of any kind) is a fallacy is that the character, circumstances, or actions of a person do not (in most cases) have a bearing on the truth or falsity of the claim being made (or the quality of the argument being made).

All I can say is since 2005 when I had roomates (being in the Navy at the time) I've watched there Dolphins, Bucs, and Falcon teams get better (I guess you can now add the Rams to that list) while we've been below average at best. Its nolonger enjoyable watching a Redskins game and I expect something negative to happen before something positive happens I dont complain I just say it dosen't suprise me, Dan Snyder and Vinny Cerrato had 10 years which they turned the Redskins into a conistant last place fantasy team so I REALIZE that Shanahan can't reverse that in 1 season, and I like that fact that he doesn't keep waiting to realize a mistake and make changes. I think our fanbase is fine it comes with the territory of 6 years consistant losing....iis not like we booed Santa Claus

What you need to explain for everyone is why you feel the need to post this crap in a thread that has nothing to do with these topics.

If you disagree with my positions, why not debate me in the appropriate threads where my exact positions and my reasons can be fairly evaluated by everyone? For example, in that Norv Turner argument, my position was that Norv was the best choice available to A.J. Smith at the time. Most posters, even some who opposed me, later conceded that I was right.

You're the one proclaiming that posters make up lies on things that are posted by you in black and white and YOU'RE the one that made that proclaimation in this thread.

EDIT:

Life's too short to argue with a contrary stump. No matter what eveidence I'd post from your history, you'd only scream STRAWMAN from the rooftops to anyone who'd listen.

For someone who proclaims to watch football for 70 + years, you display very little in football commonsense.

You're the one proclaiming that posters make up lies on things that are posted by you in black and white and YOU'RE the one that made that proclaimation in this thread. Life's too short to argue with a contrary stump. No matter what eveidence I'd post from your history, you'd only scream STRAWMAN from the rooftops to anyone who'd listen. If I scream strawman and it's not a strawman, you can prove it easily by quoting me. If you can't quote me, then it's a strawman. So, this is just bogus BS.

For someone who proclaims to watch football for 70 + years, you display very little in football commonsense. When I say something that doesn't make sense, point out my error when it happens. That's called debate. If you're right and I'm wrong, and I continue to insist I'm right, I'll look like a fool.

The problem you've having is that you lack the intelligence to make me look foolish, so you have to take these cheap shots when it's harder for me to put up a defense.

Disagree.

Most uneducated... I pick Atlanta Falcons based on the fact that Georgia has the worst education system (graduation rate: 54%) of any state in the US.
Most obnoxious... All philthy fans should be spade and neutered.
Most annoying... Any Steelers+Crosby fan or Pats+All Boston Teams fan gets my vote for this one.

I agree mostly with the post. 106.7 is a joke of a station and provides absolutely no thoughtful analysis. From the so-called "Sports Junkies" to the entire line-up- they all blow. And the comparison of 106.7 to Philly radio is generally accurate. Try listening for five minutes to that no talent ***** clown Howard Eskine if you are ever driving through Philly in the afternoon and that is in essence 106.7.

But it's more than just 106.7. The Washington Post generally provides no intellectual stimulation and thoughtful analysis regarding the Skins. Boswell, Jenkins, Wise, Feinstein, Kornheiser, Wilbon, Reid, Hamilton, Maske etc. are all promoting the thought of the day that they heard mouthed by someone.

Steinberg occasionally does good work plus the guy (sorry-can't recall his name) that has provided an analysis on Shanahan's offensive play calling in the game day version of the Post. Trevor Matich does do an an excellent job of analyzing the Skins for Comcast. Kevin Sheehan on 980 at times provides some value, but not as much as he likes us to think. Czaban and Pollin are awful, but not as obnoxious as 106.7.

Generally, if you get nothing from the shows/columns don't watch or read them. Ken Beatrice, for the Love of God, where are you? This area needs you back on the air.

mikemac9
December-28th-2010, 04:35 PM
Yeah, this message board is constant stream of hatred for the people in the Redskins organization, veiled in love for the Redskins franshise as its own entity. People screaming to blow up the team every year, fire and/or cut everyone. Teams go through bad stretches, sometimes really bad stretches. We did it from approx. 1950 - 1970. We can name a ton of teams in the same boat. Miami, SF, Detroit, Buffalo, Houston, Seattle, St. Louis, every team, they have some bad stretch in its life and then maybe a good one, and back again. At least we have some SB's, so many teams don't have that at all. Its how it goes in the NFL, especially in the Free Agency era. To have what the Steelers, Patriots have had is the abnormality. But all I see on this board is people with that level of expectation. It gets tiring to see the same emotional rants and signatures, post after post. "BLOW UP THIS TEAM", jesus, that's what we do every year. That's why the team has no leadership and chemistry. We have to make a move and stick with it for awhile to see what comes. Its almost become trendy to hate on the whatever the current team is. You can't know what you have til you have some perspective. In hindsight, Joe Gibbs 2.0 was amazing considering no other coach has had nearly that level of success, but people wanted him gone. Loyalty is sticking by your team, supporting them through thick and thin, and hating the cowboys. If your a real fan, there is no leaving the team, and guess what, no matter how much you rant on this board you're not changing Bruce Allen's, Shanny's or Snyders decisions in anyway. The idea that a band of fans could "force" Dan Snyder to do anything is ridiculous. We're not "blindly" accepting the team's failures, there's nothing we can do to change it so ranting every second and hating everyone in the organization doesn't help, it just reinforces the negatives and makes us look immature. Civil debate about the team and repsect for the other fans opinions is what we should be showing. Enough man, seriously.
