UPDATE: Redskins defensive lineman booked on DUI charge
By Matt Vecchio

Washington Redskins defensive lineman Joe Louis Joseph was arrested on a driving under the influence charge and booked at 3:08 a.m. in the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on Monday morning, Dec. 27, hours after returning from the ‘Skins 20-17 overtime victory in Jacksonville.

“It appears that our office responded to a possible accident–a vehicle off Ryan Rd. at the intersection with Brambleton Plaza,” Vincent DiBenedetto, of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, told the Times-Mirror. DiBenedetto could not release Joseph’s blood alcohol level at the time of arrest, but said it was “obviously over the legal limit”.

Deputies found Joseph alone in the drivers seat. The DUI charge is Joseph’s first.

Joseph was released Monday afternoon and authorities told media that they did not know if he had an attorney.

The timing couldn’t be worse for Joseph, as the Jacksonville game was his first game as an active member of the Redskins.

The 25-year-old joined the practice squad on Dec. 15 and received a nice Christmas present—a promotion to the depth chart. An undrafted rookie from the University of Miami, Joseph spent training camp with the Tennessee Titans.

The Redskins haven’t yet commented on the arrest.

This is a breaking news story. Stay updated at loudountimes.com.

So what time did they land at Dulles and when did he leave Redskin Park?
I ask these questions as I wonder where he was drinking at and with whom

Guy poses a great question, maybe since it is the OP's job he could ask somebody at Ashburn this.

It still blows my mind that these athletes still get DUIs with all the resources available to them that would allow them to avoid it. It's not a very smart move at all and it's unfortunate for this guy who made a horrible decision.. if he was a starter he would be disciplined but ultimately be ok.. since he is practice squad fodder, he's likely gone.

He's an idiot, but what does this have to do with "the pressure of being an NFL player?"

if the idiot cannot deal with starting one NFL game without having to go out and get drunk and drive....I am sure he will do well after a couple games, a tough loss, injury or a coach riding his ass. My point is he is the typical immature not ready for anything other than the practice squad player that he is.

It appears that our office responded to a possible accident–a vehicle off Ryan Rd. at the intersection with Brambleton Plaza

Translation: It appears our officer saw a black man in a car pulled over off the side of the road in the middle of the night. After detaining and questioning him, we found reason to arrest him.

I don't have enough info to make a judgement. Doesn't seem like he recklessly endangering anyone. Been in those shoes where a cop wants to question me because I'm talking on a cell phone in my car on the side of the road in the middle of the night. Last I checked, that's not illegal - so get that flashlight outta my face.

Complete stretch.

And there it is.

Fixed the first part of your quote.

Question you? Or make sure youre ok since youre on the side of the road in the middle of the night?

Get a life dude, youre sad.

Its good he is owning up to his mistakes. Hopefully he learned from it and will be lucky enough to still be on the team next year.

To Mossomo: still believe he was arrested because he was a black man sitting in his car?

Not in any ways condoning drinking and driving.... .but man... you all are quick to judge. It's known that the Sheriffs in Loudoun are hard core for DUI's. You don't know what his BAL or anything was yet. Give the kid a break.

I disagree with your reasoning but completely agree with your overall point. With his statement saying he is sorry and embarassed, its hard to think he didn't do it. With that being said, I think he is lucky he didnt kill anyone including himself and he shoulnd't be cut just because of this. He made a mistake and if he stays out of trouble then write it up as being young and dumb and realizing his mistakes.

Translation: you have a clear bias against law enforcement in addition to a complete lack of appreciation for the danger and ILLEGALITY of driving while under the influence. :doh1:
