does Mike make a move. I know it was said here last week that Haslett will be back, but a lot of Shanny's moves seems to come from nowhere.

You might want to change your title before a mod does it for you.
Back OT, I think that Shanny gives him another year at least. These last two games we've shown flashes of being a really good defense. With a few more pieces in place next year, we'll be even better. It's just foolish to only give a coach one year.

He was playing a 3-4 defense with 4-3 players. Why would he not be safe??
Don't you wanna get 3-4 players in here first before you start knee-jerk reactions? Is that you Vinny?

Hopefully not if Sparano becomes available .....

Sparano was an offensive line coach down in Dallas.

Shanny's history in Denver showed that when things went wrong, he picked a target (some might call it a scapegoat) to shoulder the blame. In Denver, it was almost always the DC. He changed them like socks. I think that tarnished his reputation in coaching circles a bit. Who wants to be hired by someone to look bad if it all goes wrong. He probably didn't/doesn't care that much about what people think — but he also might have learned something. I'm guessing he keeps Haslett another year. I think this year the "targets" are players like McNabb and Big Al.

I'm pretty confident in saying he's safe for at least another year.

Most people don't even remember that Sparano was Marty's TE's coach here in 2001. As for Haslett and his supposed improving defense, you guys do realize that we held one -- count 'em one -- opponent below 300 total yards ALL YEAR? I wouldn't get too caught up in the last two weeks. They played a Jacksonville team without its best player in Jones-Drew and still allowed Garrard to throw for 299 yards. And the Giants are playing with a depleted WR's core.

yes he is safe. Can fire a man playing a 3-4 defense with 4-3 players

I would have preferred that Haslett was never hired. His resume is awful. I was scratching my head over that one and Jim's done nothing to change my mind.

I think he will be back next year hopefully with some players for the 3-4.

I agree. He likely IS safe, just some of us wonder if he SHOULD be, especially when we felt it was an uninspired choice in the first place.

when we get a NT, two ILBs, and a FS, and our defense is still ranked 32nd, then we can fire haslett.

damn as much as I like to think that is sarcasm....I can see it happening....I guess we will see in the draft and FA how committed they are the 3-4 ,thus to Haslett

The overwhelming sentiment is that he is on borrowed time and its just a matter of observing pleasantries until Shanahan feels he should be released. The only real question at this point is who will take over for him.

I seem to recall that Haslett was hired because SHANNY wanted to run a 3-4 and he needed a coach who had experience with it. It's not like Haslett came in and said "we need to run the 3-4, I don't care if we have the players for it or not."

If we could only beat that message into the heads of this fanbase.

Where did you hear the "overwhelming sentiment" ? Not doubting you but I havn't heard that from anyone other than from fans and a couple of media types.

He responded, "Let's just call it the voices in my head..." Then after a brief pause he curiously added with a knowing smile, "For now."

If he said he's coming back then, by golly, he's coming back.

I actually believe he said no coaching changes are currently "planned", which as we know could mean anything hahaha.

He's not, but London isn't exactly your prototypical 3-4 ILB. He's an athlete and a playmaker, but there's no way he can hold up for two or three more years in this system.

The last three weeks the defense finally started to look pretty good. I'd say he is safe with an "but"
I think Shanny is going to begin to do some serious film review and evaluation. If during that he sees enough to really think Haslett is not his guy then the choice will be made.

Personnel that fit your defense is one thing.
Then there is giving up the most yards in the league and the most yards in franchise history. No, he shouldn't be fired because we've already started down this road and we're going to give away our players that would work in a 4-3 (Haynes, Rocky, Jarmon, Carter) so we may as well see it through... but even with terrible talent you would think a guy like Haslett could have gotten more from his squad.
I'm disappointed but I support giving him one more year.

Ugh, I just don't like him. Say what you want about the last 2 games or whatever, I just don't like his face. Every time you see him on the sideline he's shaking his head in disgust/looking confused. Not once have I seen him scramble the D for a chat, or bring one guy in close and pat him on the back or anything. Just scowls at the players in his 32nd ranked defense as if he didn't PUT them in that situation.
Shanny manages to keep a stern, confident demeanor on the sideline (for the most part), but Has just looks pissed off, whiny, and confused. I can't stand him.
Oh yea and the D went to dead last. I know, numbers mean this and that blah blah. No: It went to dead last and it was obvious. better coaches could have kept this defense out of LAST PLACE. Remember all that talent we had on D? Now they're just out of place. Has failed horribly IMO, and should go. Why the hell should he be given such a break?

Is Haslett safe, probably. Should he be safe, probably not. I know there were positives like Orakpo and Landry's play, but the dead last ranking is just too much of a negative. This team has 4-3 personnel and it will take a long while before they can get 3-4 players and actually be good.
