View Full Version : What would you do if pats wanted the #10?

I saw this on another forum but this is the scenario
Pats have 2 picks in each of the first 3 rounds.
Lets assume they win the SB.
This would put them at picks 17,32,33,62,74,94.
Scenario #1:
Lets say the Pats want our #10 pick and the #17 pick they will not part with. What would you ask for in exchange?
Would #32 and #33 do it? Would you take #33 as well as #74 & #94? What combinations would be enough to make us trade down .
Scenario #2:
Lets say they are willing to part with #17 as well as any of the others in the first 3 rounds. What deal would you accept?
Rules:
This must be a "fair" trade in that the value must be reasonable (i.e. - no saying "Thai I'll trade #10 for all of their picks")

The 10th is worth the 17th and 32 or 33rd.
There is no trade scenario for the 10th that the Skins should accept that does not include the 17th.

#10 and our 5th for
#17, 62, 94
Would do it, seems fair for all parties.

You need to ask yourself......did the Patriots ever make a trade where they didnīt rip there trade partner. If they want to trade there must be someone special.
It all depends who is availible.

Not only that, there is no way the Pats make that trade. Why would they give up 3 picks to move up 7 spots? They've never been the type of team to move that aggressively for a player.

The only scenario that wouldn't include the 17th is if they gave the 32nd, 33rd, another of their 2nd rounders AND their 1st next year.
But who are we kidding? They will find somebody to trade their 17th and move down and down and down. Get great players and a million picks for the future.

damn, that would be frigin sweet ... would love to have that kind of draft ammo ... especially if we could also trade Dmac, Haynesworhtless and ACarter for additional picks.
I'd definitely do #17, #62 and #94 for our #10 ... they'd still have like 8 picks in the first three rounds, and we could potentially find another starter or two.

It all depends on who is there at 10, if there is no one the team likes I am all for a trade down, but if there is a can't miss player we have to take him at 10.

They are the Pats and it's always good to tell them to pound sand.

For me to make that trade with them, it'd take their entire draft. But that's just me & I really hate those ****ers. :)

They have this weird mojo where they win EVERY trade.

Has "The Hood" ever given an opposing franchise an advantage ever? He is that wily ole' sea captain that knows before you know...he will also cheat to win. Belichick is a modern disciple of Sun Tzu's Art of War. Stay away!!!

That they'll just keep trading until Brady and their core players retire. Then they'll be able to completely reload in one offseason, even if they trade up to get a player they want.

Took the words out of my keyboard.
I'd want to stick it to them like we stuck it to Mike D and the Saints when they wanted Williams that year. If you want it you gonna pay out the freaking nose for it or GTFO. I hate the damn Patriots sorry cheating pieces of ****

I really like all the defensive prospects that are going to be available where we pick. They would probably have to give us #17, #32 or #33, and #74 or a trade of later picks or something.
As previously said though, I don't see the Patriots doing that and given their type of success we'd end up with all scrubs and they'd get a perennial all-star. I actually like our draft picks though as long as we don't spend our 1st rounder on a Quarterback not named Gabbert (Luck obviously is not going to be there and I don't think Gabbert will be either).
MartinC
January-5th-2011, 04:43 PM
If Gabbert is still on the Board I tell them thanks but no thanks, if he has gone (and Luck is long gone) I make that trade. But the Pats trade down not up as a rule.

Exactly. If they want the #10 we need to figure out who they wanted.

A 3rd rounder for Duane Starks, a 5th for Doug Gabriel. Most of their draft day deals are standard, they often take less than full value (like the Jerod Mayo trade-down). They tried desperately to trade uo for Vernon Carey. They aren't infallible.
If it's a trade that makes sense for us, do it.

The Pats have no reason to make that trade. The good news for us is that there are plenty of teams that need help on defense that would be willing to trade up for one of those top 10 D-linemen.

Well, let's consult the "official" NFL draft trade value chart. Here are the values for each pick for 2011:
10 - 1300
17 - 950
32 - 590
33 - 580
62 - 284
74 - 220
94 - 124
So a "fair" trade would be our 10 for their 17, 74 and 94. Personally....I would insist on the 17 and 32/33.

Given their history, the Pats would probably try to work a 2012 out of us as well.
I think that the Patriots are a great trade partner given the number of picks that they've got. I would love to get the 17 and 32 or 33. We could throw in a 2012 4th and swap places in the 2011 5th to sweeten the deal.

2 1st round picks are better than 1. they know thats why they have 2 1st, 2nd, 3rd.

You find out who they are taking and select him haha. Trading with the Patriots never turns out well for the other team.

Thank you I was about to post the same thing. The Patriots rarely lose trades but they do on occassion.
As far as the OP I would like to get their #17. I don't like the idea of dropping all the way to #32 but once the draft boards become more clear I could certainly be comfortable with it.

I'd take a First a 2nd and a late rounder, and might consider throwing in a player if necessary

This scenerio is preferable. Having said that
10 for 32, 33 and 74 just slightly favors them in points
10 for 32 or 33 (not both) AND 62, 74 and 94 again just slightly favors them

For 17, 33 and 94. It moves us out to where Pouncey and Hudson are not a stretch and fixes our OL and gives us a mid-first, top-second and late 3rd round pick. In a heartbeat, but it'll never happen.

It would take their 17th and 33rd this year and maybe a 4th next year.

I wouldn't do any trades whatsoever with Belichick. The magic of his wheeling-and-dealing lies within the fact that he capitalizes on other's stupidity (or lack of information) and is stingy as sin when it comes to trading something of actual value (if he'll trade it at all). Nah, I wouldn't trust the Patriots organization in any kind of trade; avoid them like the plague, please.

So you think our 2nd and 4th for McCrap was a "fair" trade I suppose. Or perhaps the two draft picks we gave up for Campbell? Just sayin'.....
"fair" is in the eye of the beholder....and the fans often think a lot differently than the two teams who made the trade.

17th, 32nd and 94th is around 1550.

This is not how the patriots do business. Yes it would be nice to pick up picks from them since they are loaded..but they do not just give them away. They like keeping there draft picks. If anything they will trade one of them away for a better pick in next years draft (example: Got Carolina's 33rd overall pick this year for Armanti Edwards...hmmm)

The pats have more 1st/2nd/3rd round picks this year than we do/did in 2006, 2007, 2009, and 2010 put together. They have a scarily effective organization, and we've been a farce....

January-6th-2011, 02:42 PM
They are most likely going to be Super Bowl Champions with a very young team.... what do they really NEED??? They have plenty of picks and I could actually see teams giving more picks to the Pats for the Pats earlier picks... The Pats do it right. They are always competitive/playoff contenders/super bowl bound, and have a ton of talent and draft picks...
