Huge get for Niners

And he stays in area too

Best option for him IMO, he's like Mike Montgomery

Now let's see if he fails like Montgomery or not

$5 million for a rookie coach? IS Vinny back with the 49ers?

He is definitely as a student. As a football player though... remains to be seen.

Weird situation.
Miami was said to be throwing a lot more money than that at him yesterday,
but then Miami and Denver backed off because it looked like he wanted to stay at Standford.
And now he signs with San Francisco.

Looking at the rosters of the three teams and the proximity to where he wants to be, I'd choose San Fran as well. Especially since they've committed to finding a real GM.

On a side note, shouldn't the GM be brought in before the coach? I realize its not that cut and dry and here, because teams were desperately scrambling for Harbaugh...but its bad form. It will be interesting to see who Harbaugh brings in for his coaching staff.

They signed their GM last week. Trent Baalke.

Wow, somehow totally missed that. Last thing I saw was that Lombardi was a possible candidate. Thanks for the info. Where did Baalke come from?

He can still go into the draft right?

Yep. Has 8 more days to declare. But I think he's staying.

I wonder if it was a chess move to try to influence his coach, and since it didn't work, he goes into the draft now. Unlikely though.

The coach had to have told Luck that he was leaving. This can't be a surprise for him. I just can't believe he did not make his decision based on the fact that his coach was leaving.

He just got promoted from the team's Director of Personnel. Been there since '05.

On my way home I heard Miami offered him 1 year 8 million, and that was a huge turn off for him.

Those of you that think Luck will declare and go to San Fran, think again. Carolina would have to trade the pick to them if Luck declares. I don't see an NFC doing that kind of favor for a head coach/quarterback combo.

I know this is posted in another thread, but do you think Luck would pull an Eli Manning if he changes his mind and declares for this draft? He just doesn't seem like that type of guy to me.

I didn't see any post on it so I thought I'd post it up since I just saw it on ESPN
