They aren't. Last Halloween I dressed as a straight edge kid and wore skinny jeans. Sitting down is unbearable in them. When I was in Richmond, I saw a lot of guys wearing skinny jeans. I don't know how they do it daily. It's suffocating wearing them.

Skinny jeans are GAY, any straight dude that wears them should question their sexuality. The thing I don't understand about them is, a lot of "skaters" are wearing them, I have put in many years on a skateboard, and there is no way the average Joe isn't restricted by these jeans.

Unhealthy as well. Skinny jeans can cause nerve damage. I'd say that with long term use, you are putting yourself at a great risk.

I don't care if you wear them or if some hipster girls out in California think you're cool, skinny jeans are unacceptable for any male with a sense of masculinity. And I don't mean non-baggy jeans, I mean SKINNY jeans.

Well he'd actually have to move around to kick my ass. It would appear as though movement would be restricted to a substantial degree. They're more likely to break their testicles scuffling with me than they are to kick my ass. .

A lot of mens fashion today seems to be a reflection of the 50's.

Interesting take on the whole gay thing. I tend to agree that certain things are ...well...gay. Want an easy example ?

Sorry for getting sidetracked. I will never understand why any man would want to wear jeans that tight. It can not be comfortable. I used to wear baggy jeans sometimes back in the 80's and what I would call regular fitting jeans in the 70's. I wear regular jeans pretty much all the time when I wear jeans now. Baggy looks sloppy, and tight nut-hugging jeans look a little suspect. The Village People didn't even wear pants that tight. Perhaps David Lee Roth and Steve Tyler did though...

Okay, for all my fellow posters, who may or may not be from previous generations, let's clear something up:
-Gay is a sexual orientation (or an outdated synonym for happy)
-Ghey is a term used for something that is unfavorable or not to an individual's liking
For example:
"Did you hear John came out of the closet?
"Yeah, I'm glad he finally admitted he's gay"

"Hey, I heard your girlfriend dragged you to see that Justin Bieber concert at the civic center."
"Yeah, it was pretty ghey."

in the 90's we went to the baggy jeans extreme with jnco jeans and the like, so they are swinging in the complete opposite direction now.

The skinny jeans were in style in the 80's usually worn with stretch jeans material for obvious reasons. There were also other baggy jeans that tapered down to the leg, not really tight but a good taper nonetheless. A really good tailor would make that look good. In the 90's they borught back the bell bottoms and that was the worst. Skinny jeans does not look good on big guys. Baggy jeans are always good and i'm not talking about the ghetto style where your boxers are showing all the way down to your knees style. I have big legs and baggy jeans are the only ones that will fit me. Most football players would probably need baggy jeans to fit their thighs. Some pants I had to wear 2 -3 sized bigger to fit me.

Like most people have stated, styles and fads come and go. Skinny ties were the style in the 60's , came back in the 80's and are back now. Actually nowadays, the style for ties is anything goes. Paisley is back again, so are big ties, skinny ties, average ties. Anything goes according to GQ.

A lot of New Wave bands wore skinny jeans of differing tapers or 'skinnyness'. It is better to see girls with the really skintight jeans though. Next thing you know those Miami Vice leisure suits would be cool again. Who knows? You can still be really fashionable if you dress safely and conservatively. No one will know the difference if you wear a Polo Ralph Lauren oxfoird shirt form 1983 or 2011.

I don't think women like them at all. Maybe just a fad for kids, but even my teenage nieces think they are silly.

But...I don't think they look silly on girls - if you wear em with boots and a tunic type shirt they can look cute!! Btw, good to see you around these parts again, I feel it's been a while.

I guess you can put me in the minority that thinks skinny jeans are fine on guys when used correctly. However, most guys cannot pull them off. Then again, most girls cannot pull them off either.

As for whoever was looking for a girl's reason for wearing them - they generally accentuate your ass in a way that boot cut jeans do not :)

Oh, and skinny jeans should NOT be confused with jeggings which are never acceptable/flattering/good looking!!!!!!!!!!

Right?
And it’s not like skinny jeans on guys are a new thing – guys in the ‘50s wore pretty tight jeans (and really short shorts too, btw). Check out the Ramones, metal bands in the 80s, etc. That being said, just because a pair of jeans is slightly more form fitting than a pair of boot cuts doesn’t make them skinny jeans.

I'm 6'4" and wear levi's 514s. According to this thread, I'm flaming :pfft:

Oh, cargo shorts. The ideal "douchebag" complementary item to a pair of cargo shorts ("distressed" shorts, with strings coming off the bottom and frayed ends, to top it off) would be an Ed Hardy or Tap Out shirt.

I do wear sandals all the time though. A good pair of Rainbows go a long way.

And I don't really think the popped collar look (especially the double popped collar look) was ever really that big of a fad except for a small niche of morons. A lot of people caught on to how dumb that really was pretty quickly.

Skinny jeans, awful awful. Especially if you have any type of mass on your upper body, if you wear them you end up looking like some pregant lady.

You can find plenty of jeans that "fit" without being "skinny"

If you have any type of mass anywhere on your body the look tends to fall apart. It only really seems to work with a well-proportioned, extreme ectomorphic build... which the overwhelming majority of people who try to adorn skinny jeans do not have.

I'm fairly sure that the cargo shorts were just listed as an accessory to a few typical d-bag uniforms (sandals, popped collar or Ed Hardy wear) and weren't incriminated as a lone item. Contextual reading is fun.

I get that the "in" style is skinny to skinny-ish jeans with a form fitting shirt, probably a flat-brimmed hat, some skater type (DC, Osirus, etc) shoes and long hair. "in" doesn't mean that the style looks good, most of the guys that wear this crap look stupid, and it really makes them look like a drug-addled cartoon character with giant heads and huge feet. I tend to call it the bobble head look.

As far as getting chicks, your "style" has little to do with it, in all actuality. As long as you don't look sloppy and hopeless. The way your carry yourself is what gets you the girl. If you are well kept and confident, most good chicks aren't going to care if you are part of the in-crowd.

People who don't care what anyone else wears are one of two things. (a) homeless winos or (b)people who wear stripes and plaid/bell bottoms/etc. Usually these people are idiot savants, social recluses, mechanical engineers, or similarly excused.

It's a cool thing to say in a conversation... "what do you care what other people wear?"... but completely disingenuous

Noooo, those are people who don't care what they themselves wear. Which is something completely different.

I don't care what other people wear and I don't fit into either of those two categories. Why should I care about something that doesn't affect me?

I could just as easily say that any guy who does care about what other guys wear is either a) gay or b) insecure with himself. That doesn't make it true though.

I do wear slim fitting jeans. I wear Levi 514 Slim Fit. Non-baggy, nice fitting, good quality and pretty cheap. I get them on sale for like $30.

They are skinny, they're just 100% cotton. That guy's probably has quite a bit of spandex in his.

514s are slim. 511s are skinny. I wear 511s.

BTW, the jeans I'm wearing in the pic are bullhead. Google "bullhead skinny jeans," that's what they look like.

hey now, why you gotta go and hate on mma gear? you do realize most of what they sell are also used during training as well right? and this coming from a guy who wears a rainbow, what is the world coming to?
Probably because most people who wear MMA gear wear it for some sort of "tough guy" image, not because they actually closely follow MMA as a sport.

And yes, Rainbow brand sandals. Their aren't any real rainbows on them (except for a really small tag), they're just called "Rainbow" because the company was started by some hippie who wanted to make ecologically safer sandals that lasted a really long time for people who wore them.

And cargo shorts are fine for utility purposes. Yard work, house work, or when you absolutely need the extra pocket space. They're not douchebaggy though (unless, like I described earlier, worn in a certain style with specific other items of clothing), they're just kind of goofy looking.

Bullhead has "super skinny," skinny, slim, straight leg, regular, etc... The jeans I'm wearing are skinny. Levi's 511 skinnies fit pretty much exactly like the bullhead skinnies, so I guess the industry considers that "skinny." Like I said earlier, they're 100% cotton. If there was spandex in them, they'd look a lot more like the mustache man's. Trust me.

cool, thanks for clarifying. I actually train bjj so tapout gear, along with sinister, warrior, venom, and a select other few are necessary. I don't do it to look tough, I support the company who makes one of my favorite sports possible.

I am 43 years old, and have been married since 1991... in my peak fashion years, i was studying for a double major in economics and computer science-- eventually concluding with a phd in economics with an emphasis on statistics

you seriously think you can wound me with an attempt to mock my fashion sense... ? I heartily laugh at your pathetic attempt to penetrate my solid shield of fashion stability. Half of my casual wardrobe has happily accompanied me through the years from my high school days-- when my mother dressed dressed me perfectly nicely, thankyouverymuch.
