View Full Version : Question for Sirius Subscribers

I am currently a Sirius subscriber and when I got sirius I purchased the lifetime sirius subscription package.
I just purchased a 2010 Toyota Camry Hybrid and it comes equipped with XM radio.
Initially I was told I was SOL as the boxes were not compatable and that I would just have to get a XM subscription rate (later another dealer today me I should be able to just use my XM# and call sirius and have the service transfered over, but I have a hard time beleiving it would be that easy)
My car had a GPS installed in it yesterday, and the salesman was nice enough to send me my radio ID. I went to the XM website and keyed it in, and when I did so I was told it was a Sirius ID #, and I was taken to the Sirius website where I was told I had to purchase a new plan (1 years - lifetime plan)
My question is, since I suppsoedly now have Sirius (how is it possible for that to change after a simple install of a GPS navigation system??) is it all possible for me to use my "Sirius box" in my new car and not pay for a new subscription?
Thanks for your help

Sorry, I'm a bit confused.
Was this an in-dash GPS that was installed? Did this GPS replace anything like a stock radio or anything?

No worries, I am a bit confused myself.
I wanted a car with a GPS built in, but I was told this Camry had the capability to have a in dash system fit in the place of my current radio system, and it would change my controls to touchscreen (or atleast they led me to beleive that)

Maybe the new GPS system has a Sirius radio included - which may have replaced your old XM radio? If that's the case - having your current Sirius subscription in your car should be as simple as calling and asking them to switch it over and giving them the radio number the guy gave you.

Just want to point out that your thread title would have been much better as "Serious Question for Sirius Subscribers"

I hope so. The weird thing is on the Toyota website it says you get 90 days of XM free, but if it works out in my favor I wlll not argue it.
The problem if that is the case is the Sirius box. My lifetime warrenty is on my "sirius receiver", not for "my lifetime", so unless I can transfer to box over that lifetime contract does me no good.

Yeah you migh be out of luck on that.
I always call Sirius and threaten to cancel and they offer me sweet deals - so maybe try that.

My understanding about lifetime subs is that they are attached to a specific unit and can't be transferred.
And yes, you can use your current unit in your new car. Most nowadays have an aux input that you can plug anything into.

I read something a while back that Sirius was letting you transfer that service to a new radio, one time.
May or may not be a fee involved. Personally I would just call them up or XM since they are basically the same company now.

Lifetime Subscription Plan: A "Lifetime Subscription" is one that continues for the life of the Receiver equipment. Lifetime Subscriptions are nonrefundable. You may cancel a Lifetime Subscription but if you cancel during the first year of service you will be charged a cancellation fee set forth in these Terms. Non Automotive Receivers: A Lifetime Subscription associated with a home, portable, or dock & play Receiver is transferable from one Receiver to another Receiver, up to a maximum of three (3) times. For each permitted transfer of a subscription from one Receiver to another or from one person to another you will be charged a transfer fee set forth in these Terms. Automotive Receivers: A Lifetime Subscription is not transferable if it is associated with a Receiver installed by an automaker or an automotive dealer in a vehicle, except in the event the original Receiver associated with that Lifetime Subscription is stolen, accidentally damaged or if, in the sole discretion of SIRIUS, it is defective. For each permitted transfer of a subscription from one person to another based upon a stolen or accidentally damaged Receiver you will be charged a transfer fee set forth in these Terms. No transfer fee will be charged for the transfer of a Lifetime Subscription associated with a Receiver installed by an automaker or an automotive dealer if, in the sole discretion of SIRIUS, the Receiver is defective.
BOO! Looks like my only hope is hoping I can switch receiver boxes, assuming it still works with my GPS unit

Looks like they will let you transfer. You should be just fine.

Sirius was great.
They said they normally do not allow transfers unless a radio is lost, stolen, is destroyed by an act of god, but they gave me a one time pas and just charged my $75 to transfer the account over.
Great customer service, minus having to run out to my car when it was freezing, which was own fault for being stupid and calling at night

What kind of GPS did you get?

It is a Rosen unit.
Just called them because of a problem I ws having. They said my salesman was incorrect in telling me that the buttons on my steering wheel should not be working.
