Music crit: I always cringe when I see posts like this, but yours was a pleasant surprise. The music is very "listenable". I always like violins in "rock" bands. It makes a nice counterpoint to rock guitars. The lead singer's voice is pleasant. The music is good, accessible.

Vid crit: I don't like the zoom in/zoom out editing you used. I would've just used a jump cut. The footage of people walking across the camera can't be helped, but just something to note when you're positioning the camera in the future. I don't like the split screen or the overlay stuff.

I'm not slamming you/band. I'm just trying to give constructive criticism.

All right.

I like the sound quality - good job. I'm listening on cheap headphones but I can hear everything pretty clearly.

I also like a lot of the footage and effects, especially the wide-angle shots from the front of the room and the splitscreen and multi-image stuff. Nice.

Now for the criticism - the headset mic on the drummer I don't like. I can't really say why, but it's one of those things, like drummers wearing a stack of wristbands or drummers positioned sideways, that I just can't stand. I play drums and sing back-up in one of my bands, so I'm a bit biased. And yes I use a boom stand for that. :) Also, it's a shame it was so casual and the crowd is shown kind of standing around. I've done hundreds and hundreds of gigs and I understand that these types of shows can be casual, but to someone looking at you guys as a potential entertainer, it might seem you're not getting much reaction from the crowd. When that happens, it's not a bad idea to focus more on the band and try to find ways to imply that there's a crowd there who's into it.

Oh yeah, I like the more candid shots of band members that you interspersed there. Good stuff. Best of luck - it's hard to do well in the music biz. :ols:

awww damnit... :ols:

thanks everyone for the comments and critiques!

i'm the drummer actually, I have sang with both the headset and a boom'd sm57, I don't mind either. I guess when i'm playing crazier stuff (not the pop music) it's nice to have the headset on because I'm normally thrashing around haha.

as far as the video editting, i pretty much was trying to make the best of the footage i had. the place was really small so i was afraid we'd get some people walking in front of the camera, but oh well. and the camcorder used for those "candid" shots wasn't HD obviously, so that kinda sucked but it added to the overall feel of those shots i think.

it's fun editting music videos though! haha

yeh i was 50/50 when it came to the overlay, i just didn't want people to be bored so i figured maybe it added some flair to the video. i appreciate the comments!
