View Full Version : BABE DRAFT 2011 Discussion and Trash talk thread - Switchgear has taken over

Friends, Americans, Skins Fans (and tolerated visitors). Lend me your ears, or more specifically, your eyes. For we have approached a dead period in the sporting calendar. Football is over, and with no CBA in place, who knows what is going on there. Spring training has not started yet. Basketball and hockey are in late season, the playoff still a ways away, and the fates or both Washington teams are pretty much decided at this point.
What shall entertain us from this day to that, during this dead period? Shall PCS show us pictures of the wilderness from his isolated fortress? Shall MTH regale us in his never-ending quest for the perfect burger? Shall TK don the Princess Leia gold bikini and dance for us? These ideas are all worthy, but I have something else in mind.
I think it's time for Babe Draft 2011, this seems like the right time to do it, leading to a finals matchup sometime around the actual NFL Draft. This is a contest I have run in the past, you may look here for an example (http://www.extremeskins.com/showthread.php?287564-Babe-Draft-Quarterfinals-Match-2) of how I usually set things up.
I did not run this contest last year, but since I finished my MBA this past December, I no longer have to worry about that distraction. Now of course, I have a nine-month old daughter, but she doesn't sleep at night, so I need to do something during my break/lunchtime at work to keep me from falling asleep on the job. This seems like a most noble cause indeed, and a burden I must bear.
Now then, in keeping with the spirit of past drafts, I will open up this thread for a discussion of categories. Let's not devolve this into any sort of arguing, Christ knows we've had way too much of it in the past, arguing about how old pictures are and such. There is nothing on the line here except pride, not even a special avatar, and we're supposed to be celebrating the beauty of women most of us could never hope to attain.
I will open the contest to 32 people to start, in the spirit of having it be tournament style. As with past precedent, if there is enough interest, we can bump it up to something like 40, which would mean teams 25-40 would be involved in play-in games with each other for the right to enter the field of 32. If there is significant interest, we can make it a 64 team field, but I do not anticipate that.
Further, it is my policy to give priority to known Tailgate commodities over newer folks I don't recognize. This may seem unfair, but I don't have the time or the inclination to PM people repeatedly, harassing them to make picks, submit pictures, etc. Build yourself up a reputation for being on the boards frequently and enter next year. Someone like Predicto is getting the nod over SkinsFan2326756 who joined in December of 2010, unless you can make a really good case for yourself.
Lastly, do not post pictures in this thread. DO NOT DO IT. I am firmly against the idea of "You should have picked xxx" type posts. Giving away someone else's potential sleeper picks, etc will not be tolerated, and I will remove you from the tournament and give your spot to someone else if there are repeated violations of this rule.
With that being said, let's enjoy ourselves gentlemen (and the ladies who wish to participate)

There will be no athlete category this year. There were too many arguments concerning WWE Divas and other fringe activites (hot pool players, hot bowlers, whatever) to make me consider reopening that can of worms.

This is supposed to be more about fun and less about winning, but your frustration is understandable. Maybe we should have a "Girls of MySpace" category that would eliminate such things. :Ols:

I've watched this for years and it's time, I'm in.
I like the idea of a relatively unknown category, a butterface category, and traditional celeb. beauty category.
- relatively unknown is like the "girls of Myspace" idea, but it may travel down the "creepy" road because some chicks that are unearthed in that process may not be of an appropriate age so I don't know if this is a good idea
- butterface category would be great, we would only say the name in the draft, in the competition rounds we post pics with blacked out faces.
- traditional celeb. beauty is ANY chick is up for grabs

I don't know if randomly putting together a big thread full of pictures of random girls nobody knows is a good idea.
- butterface category would be great, we would only say the name in the draft, in the competition rounds we post pics with blacked out faces.
This is actually a brilliant way of doing that. I read the butterface suggestion and thought, "Okay, so how do you figure out who meets the butterface standard? That would only up more bickering." But if you just black out the face entirely, it isn't a problem.

A few quick things. While you are not posting pictures, don't you think a few of you might be violating the rules by discussing potential picks? Something to thing about.
And we can't do a butterface category; it's too subjective. For instance, I could pick Angelina Jolie for that category and claim I think she has an ugly face. Most people will disagree, maybe a few will agree, and then what? A vote to determine whether she qualifies? It'll make things drag...we ran into that problem with the athlete category. If there is any interpretation possible, rest assured someone on this board will open the can of worms.
The age categories (29 and under, 30 and over) have always been good staples to build off of. It's just finding one or two other categories to round out the competition.

Two of them will be aged based, then we'll have another 1 or 2 categories that have changed each year. We might go back to some old ones (I remember classic celebrities was popular, as well as music chicks, etc). But when it boils down to it, I'm going to use my position running this thing to veto any category that's going to give me a migrane, like athletes. I still can't believe how much of an argument ensued over WWE divas.

I have a suggestion instead of a traditional march madness style bracket. We have what 32 teams? So maybe add 4 more teams to make it 36? we have 6 matchups with 1 particular category. Top 3 advance from that matchup. We do that for each of the particular categories. Lets say we have 4 categories. Each of them represent the final four of each category at the end
for example swimsuit model category
girl 1 team a
girl 2 team b
girl 3 team c
girl 4 team d
girl 5 team e
girl 6 team f
top 3 teams advance

Alright, I think I've got everyone so far who has specifically stated they want to participate.
To answer Ren's question, I don't know about last year, I think Califan was running it. I remember the first year I ran it, we got to the final 5 (1 Quarterfinal matchup to go) and one of the participants disappeared. If memory serves, PleaseBlitz had that one wrapped up though, his team was unbeatable. I think the year after that was the "Athlete" debacle and that one definitely never got finished. Then there was Califan's year running it. I didn't pay much attention since I was swamped with school and life changes.' Hopefully this year mirrors the first, but with some finality to it. Pretty much everyone who has signed up is someone I recognize as being a regular.
As for the Olympic concerns, there are many more countries than America, and many of them have hot athletes. I'm almost positive you can find pictures. I could probably put together two 32 person teams just using athletes from North and South America, much less the choices you could get from other continents.
Predicto...I understand how you feel, but this isn't the "women I want to marry" thread. Because yeah, being hot and having a brain like Portman's is a complete package. However, this is a Babe Draft, and you're familiar with the Tailgate. When it's your turn, you might be considering two different draftees. One might be Brainy McCookswell, 1600 SAT's, can whip up a nice batch of Hors d'oeuvres, and carry on nice firelight conversations about Philosophy and the works of the ancient Sumerians.
The other might have a nickname like "Two Stacks" McGee. You might want to lean towards the latter for greater success.

One thing I think should be stipulated is that if we have an Over 45/40 division, the pics have to be after they actually turned 45/40. When you send it to Forehead, include an url to how you know it's from an acceptable date (unless it's on the pic, I suppose). Does that sound fair to you all?

Maybe a poster babe category.
The more I think about it, the more I'm liking the reality tv stars and olympic athletes categories as our two new ones. We can hammer out specifics once we get all our participants, but those two categories don't leave open much room for interpretation and will reduce headaches.
It also seems like there's growing support to move the age line on the first two categories to 40, and I'm fine with that if there's continued support for the move.

Also are you really going to finish this one man? I don't think we've had a winner in a couple years. If you need help, which is understandable, just ask. I suggest during the draft you have a pretty strict time limit in between picks. It sucks when it takes 2 weeks to get through the first round.

Alright, just need three more, plus the inevitable people who will ask to join once the draft itself starts. We can start discussing categories. We'll have our standard two age restrictive ones, which will be set at "39 and younger" and "40 and over" this year.
After that, we've had several other ideas for the two remaining categories, such as.
Reality TV stars
Olympic Athletes
WAG's (Wives and Girlfriends of pro athletes)
Sports Media Personalities
TV Show Hostesses
My preference would be any two of the first three since it can be pretty easily controlled. I don't like the 4th category due to possible lack of talent as well as potential arguments for qho qualifies. And frankly, the last category doesn't excite me. I'd do any two of the first three though.

On a different note: I'm picking Rdskn4lyf21 to be one and done. Sorry dude, if Pink is your idea of attractive, you aren't going far in this contest. Not to mention, you have a penchant for liking mostly rocker-chics or girls with hideous tats.
I also don't see Mr. Sinister going very far in this contest. He's on record as thinking Dana Jacobson (the co-host on ESPN's First Take show) is hot. Sorry dude, you're also gonna be one and done.
Edit: I also think ACW usually has good taste in women (similar to mine). And I would pencil him in as an early favorite. However, I don't think he's very popular here, so there will be those that vote against him out of spite.

ACW, I'm going to stick with the age categories, the fact that there are plenty of people to choose from isn't such a bad thing. There's enough variety with the last two categories to make this interesting. Alright, here's what I'm thinking, and I need a few agreements/disagreements before we can proceed. Age categories are self explanatory, try to use recent pictures. If you get called out, be prepared to back up your submissions.
Olympic athletes...and country is allowed, doesn't have to be American. Let's say the 2004 Olympics or more recent, that gives you plenty of years to choose from. Summer or winter. One note, the person must have actually competed in the Olympics in those years, and you have to state the year and the sport. No "coaches only", no track alternates, etc. Let's not push the envelope and turn it into an argument.
Reality TV stars...you all should have an idea of what constitutes and actual "reality tv" show. Survivor, Real World, Big Brother, Jersey Shore, etc. As far as I'm concerned, American Idol and similar do not count, they're talent searches. Shows where people build houses or appraise **** don't really count in my book either. I would say stick to the traditional ones that are beyond question to avoid any serious arguments. Are we cool with that?
Let's just say the caegories are set, and reply whether you are cool with the parameters of each one.

Wait wait wait... four categories? What, Forehead, are you gonna manually break up every tie by adding up the percentages or something?
I ran it with 4 categories last time I was in charge. The way it works is, each matchup is actually 4 separate matchups. U-40 vs. U-40, reality vs. reality, etc. So you could win a matchup 4-0, 3-1, or have a 2-2 tie. In the even of a 2-2 tie, largest margin of victory in any one category takes it. For instance, team 1 wins 2 categories by 20 votes, Team 2 wins 1 category by 10 votes and another category by 30 votes. They might have the same number of total votes, but team 2 advances because the 30 vote matchup was the most dominating win. Make sense?

First, you're running the show so i don't want to come off as im argueing with you. I am cool with these categories, however if you do a search on reality TV stars there are hotties from those types of shows that you mentioned, I think it would be less of a head ache for you if you left it open for interpretation. Many of the blogs consider Idol and Dancing with the stars to be "reality tv", who knows if there are others shows that are similar with a different name that might not meet your criteria??

Nice, everything looks great in there. I have two more questions. I presume we are specifying which category we draft someone for when we draft them; are they stuck at that position? Can I move my realty star to my under 40 if I feel like it gives me the best chance to win in my matchup? Or are we just going by what they were drafted as? Also, when I draft a babe and post her picture in the draft thread, can I only use that picture in the actual matchups? Do we strictly use the image that she is drafted with or am I free to find more pictures of her after the draft as long as they continue to fit the criteria?
Sorry, it's my first time with the babes .

Not a problem. When you draft, you must announce the category, and you can't move them to another one regardless of where they qualify. Your Olympic athlete can't be moved to 39 and under, especially if you consider that your 39 and under likely wasn't in the Olympics. So no, they stay where they are drafted.
When you draft, you can post multiple pictures. Some people don't post many, and withhold better ones for the competition. When your specific competition comes up, you will PM me links to 2-3 pictues of each of your draftees. These will be used to make the opening post for voting. After the post is made, you can feel free to jump in and add as many as you like in order to try and influence voters.

I don't know if image quality is so important as making sure it's actually your person. We've had that issue before. You can use magazine photos, Maxim ones are popular. I think the airbrushing is expected, this isn't a draft to determine who looks best being captured by the paparazzi at 8:30 a.m. without makeup.

You have to look at it as a positional value...there will be less 40+ choices and plenty of under 39's. Who knows...Aniston has always been a personal favorite of mine. I don't think ACW hurt himself with that choice, depending on who he rounds out his team with.

Well let's be honest, they do kind of suck. I'll admit the main reason I stopped listening to 106.7 was Lavar and Dukes, but the Junkies became almost unlistenable. I mean, what were your choices? Listening to JP act better than the others and complain about his divorce while trying to reassure himself that he's a good father? Listening to Lurch basically demean his wife at every turn and talk about Bonefish? Listening to BDK's guest appearances, ever? Or the worst, listening to EB constantly talk about how great he is, how he's "an 8," etc. I mean, have you seen a picture of the guy? An 8? I'm not much for evaluating other dudes, but I think he's overvaluing himself quite a bit. Cakes was the only one that I found remotely bearable.
Really a crappy radio program now, but that isn't what this thread is about. We can always start another one debating their merits.

Not that we don't already have hundreds of anti and pro 106.7 threads
I'm not going to argue the points you made as most of them if not all are valid. IMO, you really have to take them for what they really are...random talk and schtick, not sports radio. JP used to annoy the hell out of me, but as of late he's calmed down a bit, I really don't mind BDK at all and it's funny listening to the Junks rag on him. EB however, tilts me to no end with his constant..."Oh I don't really know much on this topic...buuuuutttt, I'm going to spout nonsensical BS anyway"
Pappa Lurch and Moneymetalcakes are still silly and without them the show is nothing
