View Full Version : Hey Dallas fans, who's the joke REALLY on?

As I sift through yet another thread in the ATN with Dallas fans laughing and pointing madly at the perceived red headed stepchild of the East, the Washington Redskins; it prompts a little look back at the past 15 years since this so called MASSIVE franchise in North Texas won it's last Lombardi. The last time for the record Dallas we're of ANY real significance on the NATIONAL stage, as hard as that is for the ESPN hyped generation of Cowboys fans to accept.
The 'Skins haven't sniffed the SB since the last Lombardi in '91.
The 'Girls haven't sniffed the SB since their last Lombardi in '95.
Dallas may have more division titles in that period since '95 (4-1), had more winning season's (10-5) and more play-off trips (7-3); but when the playoff records read 2-3 for Washington, and 2-7 for Dallas, with neither club getting past the divisional round ('Skins twice/ Cowboys three times); it's totally ironic and HIGHLY amusing for our "friends" down South to claim to hold sway. It's like tarting up a pig. Your pig may look aesthetically prettier with the superficial regular season records, but when the final guns gone on each of the last 15 seasons, the end results been the same. We've both been NOWHERE near getting to the show. Ultimately, in the end result, Dallas' pig is no better than Washington's.
Difference is we know we stink at present, and have done for years. And will do for a few more years to come. But we're slowly turning it around. There's light at the end of our tunnel.
You guys refuse to admit you stink, consoling yourselves that your just one or two players or coaches away. The only thing at the end of your tunnel is a few turns leading you back to the beginning each year of setting off down the same, fruitless road.
So fill your boots Dallas fans. Enjoy being better then the Redskins at present, and laughing there in. And we'll enjoy sitting home with y'all watching A N Other NFC team compete in the SB in Indy and beyond.
In the end result, after all the hype year in, year out; your no better than those clowns in DC.
Who's the joke really on again?
Hail.
*Edit* Oh, and for the record as y'all are mocking that we'll finish last in the East again, over the period we've been at the bottom of the division 4 times, compared to Dallas' three. Both either on their own or jointly. Yup, we sure have stunk compared to those 'Boys.

The dallas cowboys are the only fanbase in football that hasn't been relevent in 15 years that talks like they've been Super Bowl champs every year.
Congrats, cowboys, you were relevent four years longer than the Redskins. Hooorraaayyyy!

Honestly, I don't know how any serious Cowboys fan could be happy or satisfied.
I'm forced to agree with the naysayers that the Cowboys are/were an over-hyped team. Some diehards will argue that it had to do with unfortunate injuries, Wade Phillips or whatever. But I always believed that you are what your record says you are. The Cowboys are a 6-10 team. And I am on record as predicting more or less the same record this season. Until the Cowboys fix the real problem, Jerruh, I seriously doubt they will ever sniff another SB. Enjoy it Cowboys haters.
As for the Redskins, it all comes down to getting a franchise QB. I still can't believe Shanahan was dumb enough to bring in McNabb. But I believe he has done just about everything else correct. Just give it time. The Redskins will be contenders before long and will be so for years to come.

I know right? Honestly, bar the odd sane, honest Dallas fan like VCD above, who are few and far between on here; the irony of it all is totally lost on them.
They try laugh harder at us, whilst all the while the rest of the Nation is laughing just as hard and long at them year on year.

I'm glad you think so. I have received a lot of crap from Cowboys fans for being a "traitor" or whatever. I don't really care. I have supported the Cowboys for most of my life and I can't ever see myself rooting for anybody else. But, a lot of these younger Cowboys fans weren't even around during the 70s or 90s SB teams. They really don't understand how good the Cowboys were during those years. They are duped by Jerruh's hype. And I have to admit being duped for many years as well. But not anymore. Romo is no Staubach or Aikman. Garrett is no Jimmy Johnson or Tom Landry, Dez Bryant is no Michael Irvin, Felix/Barber/Choice/Murray aren't Emmitt Smith or Tony Dorsett. Demarcus doesn't bring the pain like Randy White, Charles Haley, or Bob Lilly. I could go on and on. No comparison whatsoever.

Taking that on, Witten and Ware are the only two fit to be talked about in the same breath as some of those Dallas greats.

A few days ago a poster here mentioned he saw a car with a Dallas star on it. I then proceeded to ask him in Tailgate why anyone would want to rep a franchise which has been fail since 1996.
Dallas fan should not be laughing or mocking the Redskins, considering recent history. You haven't even come CLOSE to winning a SB, and the closest you were to winning one, you got eliminated by a wild card team LOL
Pathetic
Strip all your Dallas gear off your car until the franchise shows dedication to improving their below-average product lol

Today represents the 12 year anniversary of Danny-Boy buying and "ruining" the storied franchise known as the Washington Redskins.....I think the joke is clearly on the fans of the Washington Redskins. And I am having an anniversary party in the honor of Mr. Snyder, with lots and lots of food, a cake, some party hats, party streamers...the works. This day is a special day for us all!

do you even watch football? Cowboys lost in round 2 to the Giants ...who went on to WIN the Superbowl and beat the 'almost perfect" 18-1 NE Patriots......and won a playoff game just 2 years ago......
sure the Cowboys have been absolutely horrible for years, but come on....at least get some facts right in this, and no matter how flippin bad the Cowboys are, and yes they have been a big steaming pile of disappointment.......they do, at the very least (and God knows it isn't saying much) have the skins to look down at. Imagine as bad as the Cowboys are...and have been.....that when you stop an think about it as you rag on em, this franchise in which you covet, has been even WORSE.......

Yup, evil "Danny-Boy." As opposed to Jerruh desecrating the memory of the greatest Cowby of all, The Man in the Hat; and since '95 dooming you to to the same end result as Snyder, whilst having the rest of the Nation laugh just as hard at your continued failings.
Selling your souls for the sake of three more Lombardi's. Glad some deem it a fair trade off.

Yes. Your franchise is the beacon of all that is right in this world. A 'star' in a sky of darkness. A wave that gently rocks the ocean amongst motionless waves.
Yes, because you were relevent for four years longer than the Washington Redskins have been you are by very definition a franchise that has room to talk about how great they are.

Keep singing the praises of a franchise who has blown for 15 years. Meanwhile, I'm sure you'll see the majority of 'Skins fans recognize we sucked. The first step to fixing a problem is admitting you have one.

I'm sure the Dallas stars are still all over the place with the bandwagon or displaced fans living down in D.C. I haven't been down for an extended period of time in a while now but I'm sure they're still there. They put up their stuff, wear jerseys around, etc. in that area because they know the skins have been just as ****ty as the Cowboys.
Now up here in Eagles/Giants territory I don't think I've seen any Cowboys stuff hanging around in about a year and a half. It isn't that they weren't around ever- there were car magnets and all that business when they were in the playoffs and beat Philly in the wildcard. After that Vikings loss though, the stuff disappeared and with the exception of a few months prior to the start of last season, stayed gone for good.
I guess when they are around a team they know in their hearts they're worse than, they don't really thump their chests and talk up their team. They do it around Redskins fans because they know the only team in the NFC East who has sucked as much as they have for the past 15 years is Washington.
Yeah, I suppose the joke is on them since they pretend they're way better than us when we've both accomplished nothing in the past 15 years. I take it as a lesson in what to not do myself. When the Redskins win a superbowl, I'll talk about how good the Redskins are to teams who haven't won a superbowl recently. Until that time, I'll keep my ****ing mouth shut lest I look like the same Cowboys fans I see behaving like asses.

FWIW, I have almost as much respect for Tom Landry as I do Joe Gibbs. Two men cut out of the same cloth. Honest, hard working, unassuming men who were/are intolerably humble and respectful despite all they achieved. And two men who weren't afraid to openly admit the importance of their faith in the World of this macho sport we all love so much. Two great football coaches. Two great leaders of men. And two even better human beings.
For my sins, even more so as I still miss that darn gal' terribly, I dated and was engaged to someone originally from the Texas panhandle. I'm recounting this because she was close friends with Gene Stallings and his family from her time in Paris. And having spent time visiting with Coach Stallings, I can't begin to express the reverence he holds Coach Landry in. He was only on his staff, but even today he would quite literally run through a brick wall if Coach Landry, God rest his soul, came back down to Earth and asked him to. Oh, and he hates Jerruh with a passion too.
Even in the heat of the rivalry/hatred, some things just transcend all that. And Ton Landry was one of them. A great, great man.

Well, when you look at NFL success, most of the ways you look at a team is by decade. You usually see "team of the decade" or "players of the decade." So looking at 2000-2010, the most recent decade, there is only one team in the entire NFC East that has ANY bragging rights. That team is the 2007 New York Giants. They have the only Lombardi. Washington, Philly and Dallass have nothing to talk about. SB appearance, division titles or playoff appearances have no place in the argument. The goal is to win the Lombardi and the Giants and their fans have exclusive rights to the last decade Now, 2011 is a new decade. So, if all of us are alive by 2020 and survive the Mayan Rapture or the next Rapture, we can look back at this upcoming 10 years and crown the team of the decade in the NFC East.
Dale Earnhardt used to say coming in 2nd place just means you were the first loser. Safe to say 31 teams are losers every year.

Appreciate it.
I went into it starting from the end. In all honesty, haters gon' hate, and that's that. I know what I saw from April of 2004 to November 10, 2007. I am grateful beyond words for those times. No amount of idiocy or attention-seeking behavior can ever take that away from me.

Totally agreed, nc21, but rog decided to take the tunnel under the low road, then **** in it. Your and my stance are the same, and I had to step back and compose myself before I posted.

Yeah, I read it. I feel for him.
I mean, whatever one does at any given moment in one's life is her/his top priority. One can literally be doing anything at any given time but chooses whatever she/he is doing over everything else.
That guy chose to make an account, as a Cowboys fan, on a Redskins board and post hundreds of times. Then his top priority was to make that post.
I love this team and this board, and it's been my top priority apparently over 13,000 times. However, I don't post during the day. I can't even look at this site between the hours of 6:30 AM to its afternoon twin. I have a job, wife, social obligations, noms, and other things before I can even get on ES. However, Roger.Staubach put his account and that pathetic post above everything else.
No amount of banning or shaming could ever eclipse the simple reality of his life. Sad, really.

Yeah, that was the dumbest thing RS could have done.
i'm sure he's capable of doing dumber....but in this context the cake has been taken

Ya' know man, as reprehensible, to be REAL kind as Staubach''s comments were; the views of certain (so called) 'Skins fans over there disappointed me WAY more.
What hope do you have with morons in the media and from other teams when certain sections of our own fan base spout similar ****** up views?

i dunno, i really don't. some people just want to be different, but there's a point in time where you just have to draw the line. i figure being a redskins fan you have to really be a fan, we haven't been great in some time, so you figure the ones that are still here are really fans. but when i see people saying stuff like that it just makes me shake my head, why would you even be a fan of this team if you can't take the 2 seconds to enlighten yourself on such a big issue. i mean, i just don't get it.

The dallas cowboys are the only fanbase in football that hasn't been relevent in 15 years that talks like they've been Super Bowl champs every year.
Congrats, cowboys, you were relevent four years longer than the Redskins. Hooorraaayyyy!
:ols:
I think thats just about all that needs to be said in here. :ols:
