View Full Version : Colin Cowherd: Unemployment

Another ****ing gem from this idiot

Cowherd has often targeted the Midwest before for whatever reason. Whether his target is Ohio State, their fans, the Bears, the Reds, Aaron Rodgers, Cleveland fans, and basically anyone that isn't an intellectual elite from the Northeast or Los Angeles, he always has something negative to say about this part of the country. He continues to befuddle listeners with his sweeping doctrinal, cultural declarations that are often inaccurate, offensive, and just plain insane. Cowherd sees himself as such a knowledgeable beacon of reason and truth, but in reality he couldn't be further from either. Most of the time, in trying to make an inspiringly brilliant point, Cowherd says something so neanderthalic that it defies description. He did it again today. In talking about the sympathy he has for LeBron James (surprise), Cowherd actually made a very good point that the venom and hate towards James is unnecessary. But, he just couldn't resist saying something jaw-dropping. Have a listen...

Never has someone continually insulted so many of his listeners and get away with it time and time again from his employer. Cowherd can't stop at the point of having sympathy for LeBron, which I would disagree with, but whatever, it's his opinion. No, Cowherd has to include these bizarre statements:

"I could argue that if you still live in Cleveland at this point, you're bringing unemployment on, couldn't I?"

"If you live in Youngstown, Ohio should I have no sympathy that you're unemployed? You're kinda bringing it on yourself."

"If you live in Ohio or Indiana rurally, you're kinda bringing unemployment on yourself."

Seriously. Three times he says this about unemployment and "bringing it on yourself!" I'm sure that Cowherd's listeners in Cleveland, Youngstown, and rural areas across the Midwest really understand and appreciate the idiotic point he is trying to make here. Don't worry though, you poor people have his sympathy regardless. And it's not like these statements are taken out of context either. It's another example of Cowherd trying to make a ridiculous point and totally losing the plot in the process. How in the world could someone justify this?!?! As Ken Fang pointed out on Twitter, you can apply this crappy logic (http://twitter.com/#%21/fangsbites/status/79229383272955904) to anything.

Does Cowherd not know the strife of people that live in Youngstown and Cleveland and some of these other areas? I'd like to see Cowherd go door to door in Youngstown (whose unemployment rate fell to 9.1% (http://business-journal.com/april-unemployment-rate-declines-p19285-1.htm) by the way) and tell the people there that they are bringing unemployment on themselves. I'd like for him to go to rural Indiana and tell the people there how much their life sucks. Maybe he can send a damn sympathy bouquet too. Don't worry though, Colin has "sympathy" for these people, even though they bring their wretched lives upon themselves. As a Buckeye state resident, I can tell you that these Cowherd comments may be the most infuriating of them all. I know too many fine people that are struggling for their livelihoods with unemployment in these parts and doing everything but bringing it upon themselves. It makes me sick.

Ironically, the idiot happens to be from Portland where unemployment just hit 8.9%. I seriously do not understand how he has a job anymore, I really don't.

I think that since he sees how easy it is for him to hold a job, he figures it must be just as easy for everyone else out there :ols:...

I dont really understand why people listen to anything ESPN. besides highlights where are being more biased by the minute, that network is completely useless besides the broadcast of a game

I'm not an advocate for violence, but it amazes me how no ones yet hit Cowturd over his inflammatory B/S by now.

Is there ANYONE left out there he's not offended? (Cowboys fans excepted.).

If I want NFL highlights, I go to NFL Network. If I want baseball highlights, I go to MLB network. NHL Network for Hockey and NBA network for Pro Basketball. It's really easy. You can go to Speed Channel for racing.

I like the Sports Reporters on Sundays and Outside the Lines. The 30 for 30 series has been great.

That, and all the good anchors have gone on. Dan Patrick and Rich Eisen were my favorites. Patrick and Olberman (as crazy as he is now, he were a great SC anchor - at least (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keith_Olberman#ESPN) on air (http://www.thesportsbank.net/sidelineprincesses/espns-bill-simmons-in-a-twitter-battle-with-keith-olbermann-again/)) were a great duo and played off each other very well.

He strikes me as a guy who was in sports marketing (and it turns out he did some minor league baseball marketing) and some ESPN management dude hired him and for the first year he said controversial stuff and got decent ratings. I watch the NFL Network for all profootball news and several years ago turned out ESPN completely. I cannot believe they gave him a tv show in addition to a radio show. He can interview people adequately but he cannot carry a three hour radio show by himself. He is going to be like Kornheiser was with Monday Night Football. He will not last a long time at ESPN.

How many of the people from Ohio went on national TV for an hour long special to announce that they are going to collect unemployment?

I'll be honest, I think he's an *******, but he's a funny *******. It's a sports show with a side of crude humor/satirical comedy. It's not for everyone. 5 years ago, I hated him, but now, I listen to his show whenever I get the chance. He's pretty knowledgable about college football, and not as knowledgable when it comes to other sports, which can be said for many radio hosts. He's a lightning rod. The more controversy he creates, the more people he attracts to his station, whether it's positive, or negative. It's that simple

The funniest part about some of the angry people that call into his show, is that...wait for it...it's a show. No one's forcing you to listen to him. If I don't like listening to a certain radio host, or watching any other show, on any channel, I find something else to look at/listen to. He wants people to be irate towards him, that's his shtick, and no matter how many people want to try their best to "talk some sense into him," he'll always go laughing straight to the bank every time.

He's one of those guys you can't let get to you. I just laugh at him because he is so full of himself. He has a few funny things to say every now and then but everything else is pretty much just crap. He says most of the things he does with intent to piss people off. He just comes off as one of those guys you would figure has never fell on hard times financially, one of those guys who just wouldn't understand your team being so important to you because it's the only thing that helps you escape for a couple hours.

Anyone other than Kornheiser on ESPN radio is unlistenable.

The second he took 5 or 6 weeks off, I quit listening to ESPN 980.

I don't even listen to the clowns on 106.7 either. I don't listen to any DC sports talk radio now if it's not related to Kornheiser. He runs this market.

Exactly. I enjoy his show as well but I take it for what it is, an entertainment radio show. If he can make my 20 minute drive to work a little more interesting, I'm happy.

I think his main problem as a radio host is that he'll use that 20 minutes to say exactly the same thing. (which I often disagree with anyway.)

All he ever does is repeat himself and re-arrange the words.

It's like, he says what he just said, but with different phrases.

And he does it for 20 minutes at a time. Saying the same thing. Newer verbiage, same meaning, Over and over.

It's almost as if it takes him twenty minutes to say one thing, because he says it again and again, only changing the terms he uses a little, but essentially saying the same thing.

It's as if he can't be wrong in ten minutes, so he just keeps changing the phrasing around and is wrong for another ten minutes.

Repetition. Different words. For a long time.

It's what he does, y'see. repeats himself. He just makes you think he's spent 20 minutes saying new things because the words are different every time he recycles the thought.

I can't take him. He's too repetitive, and no matter how often he changes the language he uses, I usually think his point is wrong anyway.

Because he repeats himself so much it drives me nuts, especially since I so often disagree with his point no matter how many ways he tries to express it.

It's as if changing the words will make me realize he hasn't just repeated the same drivel for twenty minutes. Drivel that I think is idiotic an inordinate amount of the time.

Because repetition isn't good radio, especially when the host changes the words up so it sounds like he's got a thought going.

He needs a sidekick, if anything.
It will help stop him from these endless loops of repeated thoughts that are expressed slighly differently.

because the loops are seemingly with no end, and even though the terms are different, the thought is still the same.

And it's usually wrong. Even if it is repeated. Again. With re-arranged phrases. For 20 minutes.

I agree, he can ramble but he infuses humor which is funny at times. At least his ramblings are reality based. I mean, look the Arian Foster thing. The reality is 99% of the people could care less about him as a person. Cowherd is right and Foster is diluted if he thinks otherwise. The other 1%, they're the ones who name their babies after their favorite player.
