Innocence lost: Trusting Cedar Rapids residents getting cars stolen (http://blogs.desmoinesregister.com/dmr/index.php/2011/07/21/innocence-lost-trusting-cedar-rapids-residents-getting-cars-stolen/)
The last bloom of American innocence fell today in Cedar Rapids shortly after 8 a.m., when police issued the following warning to the public:
“The Cedar Rapids Police Department requests that citizens not leave the keys to their car in the car,” said Sgt. Cristy Hamblin, Cedar Rapids police spokeswoman. “When you exit your car, take the keys with you and lock the car.”
Apparently if you leave your keys in your unlocked car, a ne’er-do-well might just take it.

Police in Iowa’s second-largest city, pop. 127,000, say vehicle thefts are up nearly 113 percent since June 1, compared with the April and May.
Owners of nearly two-thirds of the 34 vehicles reported stolen told police they left their keys in the unlocked vehicle, Hamblin said.
