Good luck to him there. Even though I'm not a huge fan of the Pats (far from it), I enjoyed his tenure here and thought he was a quality player.

Sucks you have to work with Haynesworthless again, AC.

My thoughts exactly.

And he is an even better quality person. At fan day last year he stopped his vehicle to get out and sign autographs for my niece and nephew. All the best wishes and blessings for Andre Carter. You are missed.

Great news for Andre. They need his pass rush ability.

They will probably use him on 3rd downs.

Not all the time though, just when Al actually plays. But good for Andre, hope he does well. Good guy, great leader and I don't know why he was not used here properly. Oh well.

We took him out of the DE spot and put him at OLB when we switched to the 3-4. Thus he started less and had about a 10 sack drop off from 2009 to 2010.

The Pats also run a 3-4, so it'll be interesting so see how hell be utilized.

If all else fails, he can switch to line dancing.

I wonder the same thing. He is definitely a 4-3 end. He is not a 3-4 OLB. It sucked since he was great here in a 4-3 and when they switched, he obviously didn't fit.

Pats aren't telling the media officially (BB), but they have switched to a 4-3 now.

We had some good players for a 4-3 team so the Patriots are definitely making out good on the situation. If they had Orakpo, they'd have most of our 2009-top-ten-in-sacks defensive fronts.

He was really a "Hot Cup O' Nuthin". He played out of position but never found a rhythm. No big loss in him leaving. Good Luck in NE

Pats aren't telling the media officially (BB), but they have switched to a 4-3 now.

They've always played a hybrid. The media labels them a 3-4 but Belicheck is great about changing fronts to suit his players. The first two SB's they won were primarily with 4-3 defenses after some LB injuries.

Haslett supposedly used different looks. You actually hear that a lot from teams that run the 3-4, that they throw out so many different looks and fronts. But you can only mask somebody's weaknesses so much. Carter's been in a 3-4 twice now, and was woefully inadequate both times. I doubt he's gonna get a handle on it all the sudden now, even with Belicheck calling the shots.

I don't expect to see him in the Pro Bowl but I think he can have some success there. Put his hand in the dirt and let him rush the QB. As a role player he should be able to do just that without having to worry about the coverage responsibilities of a 3-4 OLB. I'd imagine he will be lining up strictly as a DE on passing downs. Not a starter.

That's my guess as well: situational pass rusher. With the push from Ellis/Haynesworth/Wilfork, he could do some damage coming off the edge

Great news for AC. He was always a class act here in DC. I still think we should have traded him when we made the switch to the 3-4 while his stock was high (or semi-high/decent). Maybe we could have gotten a 3rd for him? Maybe a 4th who knows. Anyway, good luck on the Pats, that team is one of the super bowl favorites.

Now I have no real care about their winning or not, and I hate the fact that Al might play big for them (it's encouraging to my petty little soul that he's missed practice again), but I do hope AC finds a successful fit there--he deserves it, IMO.

If the Pats switch to a 4-3 with our old defensive players and dominate Shanahan will look like an idiot. However, I want Carter to succeed.

August-8th-2011, 05:46 AM
The Pats plan on running a lot of 4-3 this year which will be good for Andre since he's terrible at trying to play linebacker. Unfortunately I can't root for him at all since he joined a team I hate as much as Dallas.

Reports are they're going to the 43 or some kind of variant thereof. I'm amazed AC has lasted this long without a 43 team signing him. He's an excellent DE.

Carter was, and has been, a standup guy. I wish him the best and glad that he will have a chance to win a SB w/ NE.

@ the same time, I do not want to see NE win a SB because of Fat Albert. Ha-ha.

Still think that Shanny and Allen really missed the boat when they did not try to trade Carter two years ago. I am guessing we could have @ least gotten a 4th for him.

It'll be easy to get sacks when you know what play is coming!

Also, there has been a lot of talk up in New England that the Pats are going to drastically increase their percentage of 4-3 sets this season. I imagine that Carter's addition confirms this, because frankly he's useless outside of 4-3 DE.

I hate the Pats, but find myself hating the Jets even more so I'm all for this move. I'm currently in the mind set that I'll just be happy if anyone other than the NFCE wins the super bowl (unless it's us, but we're pretty far from that at this point). So congrats AC, If you're playing the stink-gles in the SB, I'll be you're teams biggest supporter.

im good, thanks for asking. me personally, i just hate boston sports in general (theyre the new NY in my opinion since the sox won the series in 04). my facebook gets plowed with new england/red sox love and its just awful to watch/read/listen to. espn slobs all over boston sports, and i just get sick of hearing it. so while i really liked carter, and 100% agree he deserves the best possible team, i hate albert haynesworth tenfold, and the patriots winning it all would just kill me.

frankly i hate most of the good AFC teams (steelers/pats/jets) lol. had carter gone to the vikes or packers, id have rooted for his team come playoff time a lot more haha!

that would have been kind of hard considering last was the first year for both.

I'm pretty sure he meant two offseasons ago, meaning 2010. I also don't get this signing by the Pats unless they are going to use a lot of 4-3. Carter looked so uncomfortable last year and the year that he played the 3-4 in San Fran. If they are planning on using him in the 3-4 it wouldn't shock me to see him not make the team.

I dislike the Patriots with a fiery passion, but after all the class, hustle, and grittiness that Andre showed during his time here, I don't think I could ever dislike him unless he played within the NFC East. Best of luck to him; I know I'll be rooting for him.

Might want to let that happen before you proclaim it fact. New England right now runs a scheme similar to ours. They might adjust their schemes slightly to fit Carter and Haynesworth's style but they still may struggle. Haynesworth didn't struggle here because of scheme. He struggled because he's an unmotivated fatass. Carter struggled because he's just not a 3-4 OLB or DE. He's flat out built for the 4-3 DE.

Well I'd count the dark times as Spurrier and Zorn and the last 2 seasons of Gibbs when they let Cerrato loose, and I am only looking at free agent signings. Carter is one, Fletcher is one, I wouldn't count Springs, Clark, Griffin, as the dark times FA signings. DeAngelo Hall...I guess he's panning out?
