I don't understand why people said Beck didn't throw downfield. I haven't seen any deep balls, but he's thrown the ball 10+ yards downfield a few times already.

Roy Helu is looking explosive. He'll make a great change of pace back or a good goal line option. He runs hard!

Helu had one really great play and a few mediocre ones thus far. Too bad Armstrong held on his great run. I was really impressed by his read on the linebacker and his ability to cut it up and get by. He's had a few sub par carries as well. If he keeps learning, we have a heck of a back in him. He looks like a receiving threat out of the backfield.
Trent Williams had an excellent game against Pittsburgh last week, but he got owned down on the goal line there. Wow.

Trent Williams looked like ass. I hope he gets better next week.
On the flipside, Gano is still perfect for his field goal attempts :)

I think Beck looks crisp and some of the down field throws will come as he develops some timing with the recievers. I like how fast he seems to run the plays, no delays. No happy feet.

Meanwhile what the hell do the Colts do if Peyton is not good for the year? Kerrigan had sack, but it was a hold. Wow sack holds.

Prime example of what i mean when I'm on Danny Smith
if anyone has DVR, rewind that punt return and watch the penalties.. there's two blatant ones.. obviously Riley's.. but also watch Reed Doughty right in the middle of the field.
He doesn't see the front of that guy even ONCE, He just targets his back and hits him. AMAZING he doesn't draw a flag too.
Two vets. Both on Special teams for several years here now. Committing those penalties as obvious as that.
Two Danny Smith special teams veterans.
Wait til the third punt return,, watch two more Danny Smith special teams vets commit sloppy penalties. I can understand rookies, but not these guys with these types of moronic penalties. That's on the coach.

Beck was pretty late on the throw to Austin on the playaction. He needed to throw it a few seconds earlier. Good ball once thrown, though.

On the second view,, I really am uncomfortable with how low Beck's delivery is.
He made some nice throws, don't get me wrong.. but that low sidearm makes me nervous.

Beck looks totally unimpressive to me. He completed throws ANY NFL QB should be able to make, and didn't even try anything past 10 yards. Rex looked way more impressive against Pittsburgh in my opinion.

I think the motion is awkward but I don't really think he holds it too long. Some of that could be just playing time, remember this guy has not really had much practice and many of these recievers are completely new to him and the system.
that being said, I don't know which guys gives the Redskins the best chance to win.

Yeah I agree here. There's still Baltimore's defense for Beck to go against. I don't see how he wrapped up the job with the first half of the Colts game.

He's held the ball too long on two plays at least already in this game. He certainly does hold the ball too long. On an earlier throw to Austin he didn't get rid of it on time and allowed the defense to collapse as he rolled. On one of the sacks, he had a man running an out pattern who was open but he didn't throw the ball and tried to run around with it.

Ding. Thats the correct assessment. At least this far.
Now.. If they put Beck in this week (which if the fix is in, they wont) and Beck does well against the Ravens. Then I think you can really work him into the conversation of if he should start week 1. Not until then though.
I have a feeling they are going to put Rex out there and really throw the playbook at him on Thursday. If so, at least then i'll know their true intentions... especially if Rex does o.k. and they don't play Beck agains the 2nd string Ravens.

still it's a point. He has only thrown 1 ball over 30 in the air that was a completion since entering the NFL.. (4 years) that includes all the Miami games and all our pre-season games (in which he played 3) last year and this year.

Technically, okay, he tried going past ten yards twice in the half. Point still applies that he basically did nothing but dump offs other than those two plays. Also, the running game set him up with great field position all half and if Hightower is stuffed a foot sooner than we would have had zero touchdowns.

Beck definately has the fastest feet that we have had here in sometime.

Beck keeps doing it. Runs for longer periods than he has to and delivers the ball late to the man he should have hit a few seconds earlier.

But what would you expect at this point KDawg? I mean I think he has been pretty effective while not turning the ball over or forcing it in. I think that is what Shanny likes about him. I am still torn as to who would be a better as the starter and it may take the final two games before a leader emerges. From what I have read Rex did not play that well in the second half of this game but I don't know how much of that is his fault. It will be interesting to watch this second half.

I didn't say he hasn't been effective. Beck looks good. But he should know, as a NFL quarterback, that he has to get rid of the football. If he's our starter, we're going to take a ton of sacks this year. I think you'll see him fumble less than Grossman would, but we'll lose more yardage via sacks as well. And that's something that is backed up by Beck's career (not that there's much to go by) statistics as well.
I think that is what Shanny likes about him.
No coach likes a QB who holds the ball too long for that reason. He likes him because when he does release the ball it's a fast release, he has quick feet and can buy some time if the pocket collapses. Hesitating to throw to a man and then throwing to him isn't a trait that a coach wants in their QB.
I am still torn as to who would be a better as the starter and it may take the final two games before a leader emerges.
I think they both fit in different circumstances, to be honest with you. OF may have had a point with his dual QB system idea. Not sure if I'd really want to use it, but at the very least gives credence to his strategy.

This is in part due to Beck holding on to the ball too long, and partly due to facing a 4-front versus last weeks 3 front.

KD how could anyone expect Beck to get experience that he needs sitting behind Grossman? I mean essentially this guy is getting his first real chance and is playing equal to or better than Grossman. I think the release times are going to get better with some more snaps.
