View Full Version : Refocus on Rams and Get to 3-1 going into bye

That was a tough game to lose, no doubt. It is time for this team to refocus and go out and beat the Rams and be 3-1 going into the bye. A good team will be able to do this. If we can't get this win against the Rams it will feel like the same old Skins. There is definite improvements on this team, but we have to be able to score touchdowns and put games away. Next week is big and if we get that one under our belts that gives us 3 conference wins going into the bye week and I think all of us would have signed off on a 3-1 start at the beginning. This one did hurt a bit with the 3 & 21 and the dropped snap (we are good for one kicking blunder every week, something has got to give there).

God forbid we lose that one.
With the bye, two weeks of ES dwelling on 2 straight loses will make this a place to WELL avoid.

It is now a huge game for the Redskins Franchise. It would be a big step forward to our rebuilding process. If we lose that game it will feel like all is lost for 3 straight weeks

This IS a "must win" in more ways than 1.
1. rebound from a disappointing loss
2. beat a team which has been a thorn in our sides over the last few years
3. put a stop to any hint of falling apart after this loss, i.e.; Houston last year.
It is clear this team is much improved from last year, and it is clear there is still plenty of room for improvement, and staying focused on positions and responsibilities in the secondary.
The Rams are hurting right now, and are at the point of desperation; they will be pulling the tricks out of the bag on sunday, so its time to avenge the previous losses to them and show everyone this is INDEED a different team...

Great topic. We lost, and it was ugly. But it was just one game, and there were some positives. We lose as a team. Let's get focused and take it out on the Rams.

The Rams looked listless and awful in the games I've seen them play this year. There is no excuse not to win.
Of course even an injured Steven Jackson can probably run roughshod over our line, as usual.

We lost a division game on the road in hostile territory in the last 2 min. We aren't going 16-0. If this is the Skins of old, we will lose the Rams game handedly. We must progress, not retreat.

2-2 going into the bye? With a rematch against the Eagles looming? Not good.
Easily can fall to 2-3 and then batten down the hatches.
Here come the eye-witness reports of Redskins One touching down in-front the Cowher's residence.
Big picture, yeah the team is closer to good than bad but it's not championship good. Not even close.

I tend to agree with those fans who were "looking past" this Dallas game and circling the Rams game as the true barometer of how different we are. Those Dallas games happen all the time. We beat them last year in September almost the way they beat us this year. Even when we are laughable, we tend to rise up and play them well. In fact, we had lost to them twice in Dallas by a combined 4 points in seasons we were 10-22. So, even had we pulled that game out last night, it's tough to distill anything meaningful out of it.
Now, when it comes to facing a struggling team on the road off a short week...I think this is the true test. If we go into St. Louis, settle ourselves down, play solid D, score a couple red zone TDs, and pull out a victory...I'll feel just fine getting a week to catch my breath and giving the staff two weeks to prepare for Philly!
I'm still very, very happy with the direction of this team/franchise.

ES would be dwelling for good reason. This is a game that we should win. To go to St. Louis and lose would mean that we're still incapable of winning games that we should. We've seen this play out bad in recent years (at St. Louis, at Detroit, etc.).
IMO, this game is more important than the Cowboys game to show that this is a different team and is heading in the right direction.

To much discord on final drives will hurt confidence level of team overall if not addressed. Team must stomp the s%^t out of the Rams with a fast start or anything goes when the Rams trick bag us when we are not alert.

Recent history absolutely suggests we cannot under any circumstances overlook the Rams ahead of the bye week.
Get re-focused, get the "W" and rest up.
It was a tough loss, no question, but you dust yourself off and get back to work. Hail.

It would seem that the 0-3 Rams would be the perfect team to get healthy against. They are missing what weapons they have, Bradford is getting hit a ton. Defense can't generate a pass rush.
Even the fans around here have lost faith.
therefore, it is a game we would lose 9 out of 10 times over the past decade.
I'll be there in person. last year, I dropped some dough on tickets, endured teasing from the Rams fans, and watched as the Redskins got handled. I couldn't make eye contact walking out of the dome.
It better be different. but I fear it may be more of the same.

as much as it pains me to say this, i'd rather lose to dallas and beat the rams and go 3-1 into the bye rather than beating dallas and losing to the rams going into the bye.
of course I'd like to have beat them both and go 4-0 into the bye but of course thats not possible now

This would be a "trap" game had they won, but it's even scarier because they lost. The Rams are bad, but this a team the Skins lose to and they have lost to in '08 when Hasslett was their coach and last year as well. They play like they did last night vs the Rams next week and they will lose again.

If any of you watched Redskins Post Game, The Player interviews really settled me down. Santana, London, and Josh Wilson were all interviewed and they all said the same thing..."It's a tough loss, but we are going 1 game at a time and now it's time to take care of the Rams." And I feel the same way.
No matter how we win vs the Rams I'll take it. We go to 3-1 and it is possible that we could go .500 the rest of the year and still be the Wild Card.

Good thread. Losing to Dallass always sucks, but it was MNF after all. I'd rather reply to and read this thread than all the "who's to blame" whiner threads. Time to concentrate on the Rams that have had our number the past few years. Is it too early to say it's a must win? If we are 3 -1 at the bye I'll be happy.

Great post and you are exactly right. I wanted to come here and vent a bit, but I realize their is no point to that. MOVE ON. The game was ugly all the way around. Next week will go a long way in telling us how much this team has changed. If they are able to shake it off and play like they can and beat a team we SHOULD beat, then we know this really is a culture change in the organization. I saw a little of the "old" ways creeping in with the D. Hall interview which was discussed in another thread. I understand being frustrated after a heartbreaking loss, but you have got to be able to control yourself and your mouth better than that.
Today sucks! I will have to endure phone calls, texts, emails, and facebook post from my friends who are broke back fans. Nevertheless, we must move on and focus on the Rams. I have a couple of friends who are Ram fans, no way in Hell I want to go through this 2 weeks in a row! HTTR!

Best thread of the day, no doubt.
Tough loss but we played well. Defense is much improved. Offense is much improved. Still need big, strong possession receiver to help move the chains and in red zone. Special teams seems to make at least one major mistake each week....gotta get that fixed.
Our team is much better than last year (and previous years) and heading in the right direction. Focus on the next game, with the short week, and show up ready to win.
Question: Before the season started would you have taken 3-1 going into the bye week? I bet the answer is yes for most fans. I'll take it. Go Skins!

This team does play hard. I really like seeing that. We don't have to worry about AL falling down and never getting up. That is the thing I love about Shanny he expects guys to work hard and play hard and if they do not (they are gone!!!!). This team is going in the right direction. We just need to get across the hurdle of beating bad teams. As a skins fan it always seems like these are the game that just make you wonder. Lets get it done!!!!

Your definition of must win is flawed. The last 5 weeks of the season are brutal. Jets, Pats, @NY, vikings, @Eagles. If the skins are going to even be in the race in the NFC they can't lose games they should win.

This game has Redskins loss written all over it in block, capital, red letters. Rams haven't held a lead all season? Haven't won a game? No problem - we've got just the thing for that - the Washington Redskins.

The Skins, right now, absolutely cannot stop the run & Steven Jackson is healthy. He has absolutely owned the Skins. I predict he breaks at least one run of over 50 yards. This is a game that I see the Skins losing unless they can actually get to Bradfor & force turnovers while finding some way to slow Jackson down which won't happen unless he gets injured again. This one is gonna be ugly either way.

As everyone's been saying, it's an absolutely massive game. If we win, we're 3-1 and can pat ourselves on the back going into the bye week. Lose, and we're suddenly the reeling Redskins again, losers of two straight, staring down the barrel of a matchup vs. Philly.

We gave up 100+ to Zona and 100+ to Dallas, but I disagree. We are GREAT against the run 90% of the time, we just have given up 4 or 5 20+ yard runs which have really boosted the other teams stats. In other words, we don't let the other team kill us with the run.

Teams have worn the Skins D down & have abused them in the 2nd half. Seriously, what better back to have than Jackson vs our D ? Giving up the big run has been a problem & he'll break big runs. Trust me lol

I don't doubt he will break a big run, I just don't think anybody will be able to control the game on the ground against us. That's all. The D is leagues better this year than last year.

I think the d has come along way. We get off the field consistently on 3rd downs and get the ball back to the offense. If we can get the o to score some points and put teams away we will be a very good team. We are getting closer thank GOD

I know. People still wanna throw Haslett under the bus though even though the D has been great on 3rd down..
Didn't beat Dallas because the front 7 couldn't get to Romo & ended up with only one sack. That's the key. Get to Bradford & get off the field so Jackson doesn't wear the D down.

The first drive will tell us everything.
If we go 3 and out and/or the Rams methodically march downfield and take an early 7-0 lead, we're going to be in for a long day.
On the flip side, if we can get a quick early score and/or force a 3 and out or turnover, we can put them away early and go into the bye on a high note at 3-1.
