View Full Version : Are the 49ers for real?...

They were damn close to being 5-0 right now...and that was a complete beatdown of the Bucs today.
Alex Smith? His stats are insane right now...7 TDs, 1 INT, 66% completion rate, a healthy 7.7 yards per attempt, a 104 QB rating. I wrote him off as a bust a few years ago...might end up eating tons of crow if he keeps this up.
So what do you think...are the 49ers now for real, or has it just been a good 5-game run and they'll be exposed soon enough?

Alex Smith is terrible and soon enough they'll be exposed against good competition.
4-1 with wins over Seattle, Cinci (13-8), a miracle comeback in Philly and today against a Bucs team on a short week which traveled cross country

Have the Bucs regressed or what?

Bucs and Falcons have. Saints are the only legit team in the NFC South. In fact, outside of the NFC North, the entire NFC is a mess.

Not sure but i'm thinking no they are not for real.I dont think theyve really played anybody yet. I'm more surprised that stone hands learned to catch suddenly. Where were those hands that last many years here? 3 picks in 3 games.

i thought they were a bit of a fluke of a team last year.. their play this year validated my suspicion...

Plus the hit on Romo that resulted in the "punctured lung." Fool is playing out of his mind and jackola while he was here. IMO, it's the fact that he's on a 1-yr contract. If he gets a long-term down the line from somebody, we'll see the Carlos of old.

I'm just glad Harbaugh isn't at Stanford anymore.

His problem here was his hands. He was in position and had balls hit him in the hands so many times. Yet he almost always dropped them. It was disgusting. now you might be right but i dont think a contract makes him actually catch better. If he had caught better in Washington we'd of given him that contract. Maybe it was pressure and maybe the pressure of a contract had something to do with it so i cant dispute you at all.

49ers are my pick to win the NFCW
They win that be default. Year in and year out theres only 1 NFCW team that plays half decent. And thats all it takes to win the weakest division in the NFL.
Was it 2 years ago when the 7-9 Seahawks made the playoffs by winning the division, yet there was 2 other teams in the conference with a better record?

Yeah your right about that. Jason is looking better in Oakland than he did here. And Fat AL is looking better in NE.( He just looks better anywhere else but here.)And i'm loving that he's doing less than nothing.

Yeah that was last season. Your right. I was really surprised when they beat the Saints. I hate the fact though that a team with a losing record knocks out a team with a winning record, but they won the division so......Not saying the system is flawed but......

He caught the Walt Harris disease lol...goes off to the 49ers and instantly puts in a Pro Bowl year while there. 8 INTs his first year on the 49ers squad after having 3 INTs during his 2 years with the Redskins.

they believe and that's all that matters right now.
let's talk when they lose a few and smith comes back down to earth, then we'll really see who they are.
and of course in the NFC West winning 4 games makes you a near lock for the playoffs.

yeah everyone freaked out and called for the system to be changed until marshawn went beastmode in seattle and they beat the vaunted saints.

Well, what do you mean by for real? Are they Green Bay for real? Of course not.
Can they compete with teams. Absolutely. Just like the Redskins.

Nfc west until recently last 15 years were putting 2 teams in the playoffs in the 80s it was San fran and LA Rams early 90s they put 3 teams in with the saints going a few times then in the late 90s early 00 saints and san fran not saying the division was the best in football but it did quite often put 2 teams in the playoffs

Ya lost me bud. I dont recall saying anything was for real or anything like that, other than they win by default because of the weakness of the division. Are you disputing that the NFCW is the weakest division in the NFL? I never said they couldnt compete just like i said i was surprised when the Seahawks beat the Saints in the playoffs last year. any givin Sunday like they say.....

Yes they did but since the realignment the NFCW has had one team, mostly Seattle and Kurt Warners Rams win by default because the other 3 teams were struggling every year. The Greatest show on turf team was impressive but i dont remember Seattle being a contender then.At the same time when Seattle won the Super Bowl and won the division all those years i dont remember the Rams lighting it up.When the Cards lost to the Refs and Steelers in the SB i dont remember the others being for real. The 49ers are having their turn and the rest are au usually struggling.

You bet. They're the real deal, and the best team in the NFC West.

The 49ers are basically the West Coast Redskins. Great running game and D, questionable QB. But if/when the QB plays well, they're very tough to stop.
They're easily the best team in the NFC West and right now are a top 5 team in the NFC(4th behind the Packers, Saints, and Lions).

now you might be right but i dont think a contract makes him actually catch better. If he had caught better in Washington we'd of given him that contract.
When he was dropping everything that hit his hands while playing for the Skins he thought that he was going to get the big contract anyway, Remember the article with Rogers comparing himself to other CB's who got 50+ million contracts? The difference was that those other CB's weren't thrown at 10+ times a game and still caught 4-5ints a year compared to Rogers and his 1-2.
He probably got 0 offers like that and had to sign in SF for a few million and NOW realizes that he really does need to catch so maybe he got in some practice during the offseason. Or maybe he didn't really try to catch them before and now he is making it a priority so he can get paid.
Problem for him is that he's already 31 or so, right? He's not going to get a mega contract. He wasn't that fast to begin with and will probably get moved to safety by some team if he plays more than 2-3 more years.
