October-10th-2011, 11:21 PM
So I've been keeping track of how we are doing (as a whole) prediction wise in the previous threads.

Game 1: 66 predictions, 52 Skins win, 14 Giants win
Predicted scores:
Redskins 22.3 +/- 5.8 (95% confidence interval is 10.7 to 33.9 points)
Giants 17.2 +/- 5.6 (95% confidence interval is 6 to 28.4 points)
Actual Score = 28 – 14
http://www.extremeskins.com/showthread.php?353394-What-is-your-prediction-for-the-results-of-Sunday-s-Game

Game 2: 77 predictions, 71 Skins win, 6 Cardinals win
Predicted scores:
Redskins 29.3 +/- 6.1 (95% confidence interval is 17.1 to 41.5 points)
Cardinals 17.2 +/- 5.3 (95% confidence interval is 6.6 to 27.8 points)
Actual Score = 22 – 21
http://www.extremeskins.com/showthread.php?354079-Cardinals-Skins-Predictions-for-Week-2

Game 3: 99 Total, 74 Redskins win, 15 Cowboys win
Predicted scores:
Redskins: 25.2 +/- 6.2 (95% confidence interval is 12.8 to 37.6 points)
Cowboys: 17.9 +/- 5.1 (95% confidence interval is 7.7 to 28.1 points)
Actual Score = 16 – 18
http://www.extremeskins.com/showthread.php?354748-Redskins-Cowboys-Predictions-for-Week-3

Game 4: 109 Total, 90 Redskins win, 19 Rams win
Predicted scores:
Redskins: 23.1 +/- 7.0 (95% confidence interval is 9.1 to 37.1 points)
Rams: 16.0 +/- 6.2 (95% confidence interval is 3.6 to 28.4 points)
Actual Score = 17 – 10
Rudechain, Bigmuss1, and skinfan1957 all predicted it correctly! First time anyone has so far.
http://www.extremeskins.com/showthread.php?355243-Redskins-Rams-Predictions-for-Week-4/

Cumulative predictions:

Redskins Predicted Offense = 24.9 +/- 6.9
Redskins Actual Offense = 20.8 +/- 4.8

Redskins Predicted Defense (e.g. Opponent's O) = 17.0 +/- 5.7
Redskisn Actual Defense (e.g. Opponent's O) = 15.8 +/- 4.1

Our defense is doing better than we predict them to be doing in giving up PPG, although cumulatively it's pretty close.

Our offense has been doing somewhere around ~20-30% worse than we are expecting it to do... although I'd probably have to run another analysis on confidence intervals to see how much (which I am not going to do b/c too lazy).

Our actual O and D differential is 20.8 points minus 15.8 points which is +5 points... a big part of which we are currently 3-1. Our defense is carryin us. But everyone already knew that...

As a collective whole in predictions we are: 228 – 113

-------------------------------------------

My prediction = 24-21 us.

I sincerely hope we can run against them so we can put up enough points to win because they will likely put up a large amount of points. I'm hoping we can hold them to 3 TDs or less.

Hate to say it...but i firmly believe that the Skins drop this one. The Eagles are too desperate and it's a divisional game. My mind tells me the Skins should win by running the ball and playing good defense, but my heart tells me that the Skins will break my heart by falling to a last second field goal....

I haven't picked against the Skins this year but I think this is the game we lose even though we beat them in Philly early last year and this team is much better. Unless Vick gets knocked out, then we win for sure if it's early.

Of course I could be totally off. I know Vick will fumble faster than Grossman and gives the defense a lot of chances to take it from him. Also I think we are due some Int's, I just don't know if Vick will continue to throw 3-4 picks a game.

Eagles have been finding ways to lose games every week but it has to end eventually so of course it'll be against us. we'll still be able to run all over them but they'll score too many points.

I predicted the Cowboys loss, but felt we'd win all the other games. This week, my prediction is that a desperate Eagles team finally digs deep and plays disciplined football, and Vick manages to avoid the flukey INTs that plagued him in Buffalo. Grossman struggles under pressure, and the Redskins injury luck finally stalls, as we lose a starter for 6-8 weeks. Eagles 31, Redskins 21. Sure hope I'm wrong.

Yeah this will be the first team with a heavy and fearsome pass rush that Vick has come up against. A lot of their drives are kept alive by him scrambling, and I can't see that working for him this week. When he has to stay in the pocket, he makes mistakes and he takes hits.

I genuinely believe that the Skins can beat the Eagles if we play to the best of our ability.

It's only Tuesday and my nerves are already shot for this game. It's ridiculous. I'm never one to use terms like "Biggest game of the year", etc but I have to admit, the way things are playing out this weekend it sure does feel like the most important in recent memory. If for no other reason than we have an opportunity to step on the throat of a badly beaten down Eagles team that would put us up 4 games on them. That along with the Giants and Cowboys looking at a very good chance of losing their matchups this weekend it would put us in the best position in our division in a decade, maybe more. I know it's only week 5, but I will feel much better if we win this weekend(not that I don't say that every weekend, but moreso this game). Over the last few years the Skins would find a way to loose this game. Here's hoping that my optimism about the direction this team is going is well founded.

Final Score -

Defense comes up big again. At least 3 turnovers.

I feel I have to apologise too, for my prediction, but after having watched the Bills/Eagles match on tv, you cannot argue against the fact that the Eagles have an explosive offence - I really thought they were going to get those 17 points back in the 4th quarter.

Having said that, I think we may put together a couple of good quarters of offence, but will come up short, Eagles 31 Redskins 20.

WR Anthony Armstrong was on the field Monday but remains limited with the hamstring injury that caused him to miss the game before the bye. "He practiced what he could ... I didn't ask him to push anything until Wednesday," Shanahan said. "But I feel like there's a good chance" that Armstrong will play against Philadelphia. ...

My predictions haven't been right each week, but my feelings have been spot-on with the exception of opening weekend vs. the Giants. I have a bad feeling about Sunday...not necessarily anything negative about us, but more that the Eagles will stop committing odd mistakes.

I think they just straight-up outscore us in this one. I think we'll play OK and have some success on the ground. In the end though, they'll make more explosive plays which (without 3-5 turnovers) will be enough to win the game.

Eagles 30

What I hope to see.
The running game goes. I've watched the Eagles LB's and I am sure we can run straight at em and move the ball. Key is when faced with a long 3rd down in at least 1 series in the drive we need Cooley and Davis to keep it alive. Run and 2 tight end sets
Play a Tampa 2 defense...take away the long ball AT ALL COSTS...don't drop coverage on a scramble..let the LB's handle that...keep coverage deep and disicplined Make em work on long drives
Kerrigan and Rak need to be jacked up but contain Vic inside the hashes..let Cofield push the middle..The Eagles Oline is THE weakness...PRESURE and HIT VICK on every play

Take away the scramble and the deep throw off the scramble...keep it at 20 tards or less and make em drive at least 7 series...

On offense..we RUN the ball..keep Vick off the field..throw outs to the TE's to keep drives going with an occasional deep ball to keep them out of the box.

Skins 17 eagles 14 with the Defense making the stop in the last drive.

I WISH for a beat down like there never was...Landry avenging Jackson's hot dogging last year with a crushing hit...put Vick out when he scrambles...PAIN TIME...

That game last year was painful...This team better be jacked for a payback to knock em out of contention...WHAT AN OPPORTUNITY TO REDEEM THAT GAME!!!!

Skins need to score points in this one because the Eagles offense is explosive. They need at 21 pts minimum here. I still think it will be close because it is the NFC East. I think the Skins break through because this is a big one for them. I'll go with 28-24 Skins

it really is an opportunity, but not just to knock them out of contention.. it will send them into a downward spiral for years (imo) if we blow them out. they will be reeling with no leader on offense or defense, stuck with big contracts and the inablility to sign people they need elsewhere.

It's like some of you haven't watched the eagles play at all this season. I don't care how "explosive" their offense you simply can't fix stupid in one week. Stupid on both sides. I have an additional prediction...

If we win this game, whether it's 2-0, 45-3, or 51-48, this town (me included) will be ecstatic. For us to sit at 4-1 having won games against the Giants and Eagles would be unbelievable. We'd have so much momentum going into a 2-game road trip that we basically just need to split to keep pace with the rest of the NFC East.

From the NFC East Blog chat on ESPN.

Do you expect the redskins to be looking for revenge after last years monday night debacle?

Yes. This is a big question. We did a video feature in training camp on that game, and I talked to several Redskins players about that. They think about that game A LOT, and they are not looking at the Eagles as this 1-4 mess we're all watching every year. They're looking at them as the team that humiliated them on national TV, and they will be extremely motivated to win this game. Very dangerous game for the Eagles.

The Eagles are in dire straights. Little confidence. Shocking defensive. Poor O-line play. Penalties and mistakes right through the team. Not to mention key guys banged up.

But on the flip side, they OWN our ass in DC. Something like 8 or 9 in the last 11. With some real ass whooping's in there to boot, not least last year. And then there's the Redskins. An O that's been regressing since Week One. And one that can't put up points for ****. (And I know we've averaged 20 a game before some wise ass chirps up. But that's falling fast the past two weeks.). And an OC that thinks running the ball is a dirty phrase, Would anyone be surprised to see Kyle do the single worst thing, and not only put it in Rex's hands, but ask him to go deep with the rock instead of pounding it against a lame Eagles run D; and keeping it REAL simple when Rex is asked to do something? And which D will show up? The dominating front of last week? Or the one that couldn't get a lick on an injured Romo with little receiving help the week before?

This is a MUST win game for me. To finish the Eagles season (and make no mistake if they fall to 1-5, and 0-2 in the division their done); and be in GREAT shape for a serious run at not only the post-season, but the division ourselves would be out of this World for this team.

Sadly, I fear we've seen this picture before.

Reality hits Redskins land. Eagles win by at least 2 TD's.

I have to go with the Skins on this one for a few reasons. The Skins are coming off a bye week. The Eagles killed us last year after our bye week, but we are a different team and should be ready. Another reason is things are real bad in Philly.....real bad. They are hiring a defensive consultant. They are in the mode we were in during Zorn's second year. If you punch Philly in the mouth early, I think they will fold. I've read some of the Eagles fans forums and many are actually pulling for their team to lose, to guarantee some head rolling. It's that bad. This game shouldn't be close, unless Rex has a very bad game. That is a possibility. The only way I see us losing is if we have a terrible game, where Rex has a 3 int game and some of our players have a case of the fumbles. I'm going to lean on us looking pretty sharp since we had a bye.

My prediction 27 Skins 14 Fuciggles. I believe that we will run the ball much better than the weeks past, Torain, Helu & mix of Hightower on third and goal line situations. A heavy dose of running will keep the Eagles defense honest and take the pressure off of Rex and alloy him to just manage the game. Look for either Cooley or Davis to eat up the middle of the field on play action and Anthony if healthy to stretch the field. I don't believe I'm to worried about this game. There defensive woes are not going to magical get fixed over night it is what it is some ****. I have faith in our defense unit as a whole. I know that the E-gales can score on any given play but as I posted in another thread they haven't faced a defense as good as our yet.

If we win this game, our hold on first place gets even stronger and we prove ourselves a legitimate contender in 2011.

Unfortunately, this has trap written all over it.

I really do not understand the negative thoughts on this game

the eagles cannot stop the run..period there emotional leader trent cole is out.

The eagles linebackers are a joke. yes kyle might be stupid and have rex pass for the twenty times if so i am going to be *%%^^&((()) upset

.If there is any weaknes that can be exploited on the eagles is they cannot stop the run and some of you seem to forget our players did not forget last yrs ass kicking.

Tough game still 24-21 skins

That's what I'm saying. People need to admit that the Eagles just flat out suck this year (primarily in the coaching dept.). Sure they have talent, but we all saw where that got the Cowboys last year.

If we lose, it'll be because of our mistakes, not because we were beat.

---------- Post added October-11th-2011 at 11:08 PM ----------

Vegas bookmakers have the Skins as 1 point underdogs. So evidently there are a lot of people who still don't think much of the Skins, or still think highly of the eagles.

I believe the Eagles were also 9 point favorites against the Bills, so there's that, :ols:

The Eagles are an underachieving team. I think it is far-fetched to say they suck. Every game they lost could've easily went the other way. They actually have been beating themselves this year.

Their offense is hands down better than the skins, but we have the better defense. One thing to realize is that they still have pro bowlers all over that secondary so Grossman has to be careful. The only way the redskins have a chance is if they run well. If Philly miraculously develops a run defense that game, it will be a long day for the redskins, b/c the eagles offense WILL put up points.

Eagles have been finding ways to lose games every week but it has to end eventually so of course it'll be against us. we'll still be able to run all over them but they'll score too many points.

Eagles 31 Redskins 24

I've heard this several times now & I'm gonna go the other way. I think they continue to find ways to lose & that this is the beginning of the end for Andy Reid in Philthy. I think he has lost the players & his staff & the few that still listen & buy into his schemes aren't getting thru to the others & they are roguing it at this point to try on individual levels to win games.

I think our defense makes big plays this week, Ryan Kerrigan will have Vick in fits & running into Orakpo, Fletcher, McIntosh & Cofield. They create turnovers & even score points again.

I agree with this quote. If the redskins can score more than 28 points, then I can see the Redskins winning.

I dont think the defence will keep them out of the end zone when it gets late. I predict Washington winning in the first half, but blow the lead in the second half. I love our redskins, but I think we come burning down this comming sunday.

I hate to say it, but I think the Eagles have an edge in this one. They are desperate, this is an NFC East game, and it would be huge if they go down to us this week. It would be very hard for them to bounce back to win the division if they lose this one. Statistically, they've been off the charts on offense, and that frightens me. If they decide to play this game like their whole season depends on a win, and the 'Skins don't answer, the Eagles will win easily. If the 'Skins can force the Eagles to make errors like they have been, then they have a chance.

On the 'Skins side, I think this is a defining game. It will tell all of us fans who have lived through the glory years if Shanny and Co. are for real and if good things are in store for the future. I felt the Dallas game was such a game, and the 'Skins failed when facing an opponent that was beaten up and whose QB was maligned all the previous week. They need to step us this week and show the world that they are for real and one of the best teams in the NFL, or that they are still one or two years away.

I hope the 'Skins win, but my gut tells me that the Eagles are the more desperate team and win this one easily: 34-17. Prove me wrong, 'Skins!!!

24-17 Eagles over the skins.

This game has bad written all over it. The Eagles are in a must win situation and their speed presents a very bad match up for Redskins. I'm not even entirely sure that Kyle Shanahan will move away from stretch running plays against their defense and pound the middle.

You know, I wondered about this. You would think that stretch plays won't succeed vs. the Wide Nine I keep hearing about. We seem to run some quick-hitting/up-the-middle plays whenever Helu is in there so I'm hoping we lean on those in this match up. I guess we'll see.

Eagles are like an animal backed into a corner. If they score first it could ignite them. Go down by 10 pts or so and they may cave for the season, We remember last years loss and than should fire us up, but we never play that great coming off a bye. I hope we stayed focused

I know we better guard on Jackson long down the middle on the opening play, I would bet they repeat on the opening play again

Everyone talking about how awesomely explosive the Eagles offense is seems to forget that we are probably the best defense they have faced up to this point.

If the Eagles come in here cocky thinking this is the same 'D' they rolled up 59 on last year (as apparently a lot of you faithless are concluding), and the Redskins will be an easy win to get healthy on, they are going to be in for a shock.

Believe in your team........I say 24-20 Skins :logo:

Does believe in your team mean that you have to think they will win every game? I know that this team is solid enough to win every game, but they won't do that. NFL teams lose games from time to time. I could contribute to these threads with a best case scenario every week, but that's not realism.

Our D can only hold on for so long ... i have a feeling they will be nails for a few quarters and then our O will sabotage their efforts.

Tough, close game. I haven't really made a prediction all year, but what the hell. I think our redzone woes continue, but we kick alot of FGs and control the ball on the ground with Torain/Helu. I think the defense plays well enough to force some turnovers and we win a close one, 26-24.

Gano hits 4 FGs, the last one with 1:30 left in the game from 35 yards out and Philly tries to get into FG position, but Vick throws a pick on our 40 and each and every one of us have 10 years taken off our life.

Eagles: 23.1 +/- 7.9 (95% confidence interval is 7.3 to 38.9 points)
