DAVIE — The Dolphins on Thursday assured that Sunday's game will be televised in South Florida, teaming up with broadcast partner WSVN-Channel 7 in Miami to purchase the remaining tickets before the blackout deadline.

It was the third time in four home games this season that the Dolphins had to take extraordinary steps to avoid a blackout.

NFL rules require that all tickets be sold 72 hours before kickoff for the game to be aired in local markets.

Tickets going to Vets first, to season ticket holders second.

Buried in the article.....this funny tidbit.....

Sparano bottoms out: Tony Sparano finished second to New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin in a Sporting News player poll that asked, "Which coach would you least like to play for?"

Coughlin got 22 votes and Sparano 21. New England coach Bill Belichick was third with 15.[COLOR="Gold"]

There was once a time where the Redskins could draw big crowds in opposing teams stadiums. It's sad that has not happened in over 20 years. :(

It's been the case all year with the dolphins, I think only one game this year was sold out. they even have problems sometimes back when they made the playoffs, selling out

Redskins last blackout/non-sell out was 1965. Second, behind Greenbay, who holds the record.

Props to us fans, despite the last 20 horrible years ...the tickets still sell.

Sadly, nothing new for the Dolphins. I lived there for 15 years and at least once or twice a season they had to do that. And football is their big sport. Baseball, basketball and hockey are even worse.

Never been to the Dolphins stadium, but living nearby, heard plenty about how lame the experience is, people just leave, and think they're supposed to yell when the offense is on the field, etc. They should change the color of those seats from bright orange so it's not so obvious how many of them are empty.

Speaking of empty, it should be a fit setting for an empty offense led by John Beck :(. Quiet, boring, punt...ugh I just want a little excitement please

I think that Miami is one of the worst stadiums in the NFL to see a game, your so far away from the field it is stupid. Feels like the fans are removed emotionally.

I lived in West Palm Beach from 99-05. We could always get free tickets to any Marlins game of our choice.

Why are there pro sports teams in southern Florida again? Seems to me they couldn't give two ****s about any of their teams.

Only when they are winning. There's too much to do down there to waste time indoors.

No, there are just so many people from every other area that they have their own teams. The Dolphins have a loyal following to an extent, but damn they have sucked for longer than the Skins.

If in the same position as the Dolphins, or Raiders/Bucs/Jags in seasons past, does an owner make more money having the blackout or not?

Does the owner/NFL lose any advertising money if a game is blacked out?

Washington's the same way, yet the Redskins have a tremendous following in the DC Area and that's been the case since the 1930s.

It's amazing how many ES fans have become so defeatist. ...And against Miami, no less!

We may win, we may lose - but regardless of what you want to think, this team is getting better.

If this was a new franchise, would the fans be demanding a playoff spot in 2 years? Maybe folks need to consider the extent of the rebuilding job that Shanahan/Allen had to deal with have after Cerrato left. ... And with many of the draft picks already traded away.

Get real -- and stay positive. Unless you want yet another Washington Redskins rebuild.

Spot on here Wyvern. Patience is the key to staying sane watching this team right now. Young players are getiing their shot at playing time and are going through growing pains. Allen is doing a pretty good job at stockpiling picks in the next TWO drafts. Beileve it or not fellow skins fans, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

I was surprised at the these numbers, I had no idea population numbers were this close.
