I saw this coming, Rocky has been just horrible in coverage. Plus I like Riley's meanness on the field. This could be a sign that Rocky is not returning in 2013.

Its been very frustrating for me to watch Mcintosh his entire career, yes hes made alot of tackles but rarely if ever were any of those behind the line of scrimmage they usually happend 6 to 7 yards down the field, i like the change to bench him but im not sure Riley is the answer.

Good, I like this a lot.
Riley may or may not be the next guy to fill Fletch's role in the future, but we need to figure it out soon. And what better game to start him than this one?
Regardless of how he plays, we need to be looking for another ILB in the draft soon. If not year, definitely next.

"McIntosh is getting benched for performance reasons as the Redskins continue to flail around. Riley is the Redskins' inside 'backer of the future and has some immediate IDP appeal in deeper formats. McIntosh was averaging 7.0 tackles per game on the season while playing next to London Fletcher." - Rotoworld (cont'd)

I've been waiting to see what Riley has as a starter. Actually, I wanted to see what Robert Henson had too (I know, silly me)...
Rocky just doesn't fit. I don't think he's a horrible player, but he doesn't seem to fit the 3-4. Maybe that's just me though. I was pretty surprised he came back at all.

I've always thought Rocky was underrated in the 4-3, but he has never seemed very comfortable in the 3-4.
It's time to move in another direction, and I was advocating starting Riley before the season started. Let's see what he can do.
I love the youth movement.

Has' said Riley wasn't ready at the start of the season. Based on Rocky's consistent ability to give up the hugh play, it was time for a change one way or another.

If I'm Miami I'm trying to get Reggie Bush isolated against Riley in coverage early. That said I'm pleased with the move, time to see what the younger guys have in areas were the veteran starter is mediocre.
Edit. The thought occurred that the Mami game plan probably already had a big chunk of plays trying to get Bush isolated on McIntosh so no big change needed ......

Agreed, and even if Riley pans out, we still need to be looking at ILB in this year's draft IMO. If not this year, then definitely next.
If we don't re-sign Rocky, then Riley can step into that spot. But even then we have to be looking down the road for Fletch's replacement.

Trolling? Hardly. I agree with the move from McIntosh to Riley. Rocky has gotten better at playing the linebacker position, but he still wasn't a very good linebacker to begin with. And on that other note, I'm simply not a Haslett fan. The lowly Rams didn't want him, and I think it speaks volumes that the man was coaching in the UFL when hired by Shanahan.

Wasn't talking about the McIntosh comment. However, there are plenty of other threads for Haslett agendas. You don't need to drop in just to say "Haslett sucks" in any thread related to the defense. Nevermind that he's engineering a pretty good defense this year...

Henson had one good preseason and his best showing was late in the game of the fourth preseason game. Even if he had stuck around it's very unlikely he could ever have lived up to the hype that somehow got built around him.

One less hole to fill in draft or free agency, hopefully if he doesn't Chris Horton it and flame out hard. This means we are closer to being a complete team and we don't have to spend a pick on an ILB so now we can use it for a BPA pick or another need. Very, very good news.

I know right? 2 strip sacks is about as elite as you can get. A solid game is keeping contain on every rushing play, and getting some pressures. Two strip sacks is amazing.

There are some very good ILB's in this draft, it's also still a need. A BPA on them is fine, Fletcher might not be here next season, he turns 37 in May and is a Free Agent. Perry Riley has more talent than Horton. He's faster for his position, reads plays better, and attacks well.
Seeing Riley out there with how well he was able to read and attack made me think that drafting ILB is still a priority. You really need 4 really good linebackers to make our 3-4 defense work. They're our play makers on defense.

Every linebacker in the NFL has problems in coverage when matched up with the hybrid TE/WR and 3rd down RBs around the NFL these days. Meanwhile London is tied for the lead on the team with 2 INTs.

I'm not sure about any of them at this point. That's why I want to give them a month (if it were up to me, I'd be starting all of them now) or more to see how they do with regular reps. We won't know what we have until we give these guys a chance to sink or swim. It's possible (likely even) that Austin won't pan out. I've been high on him since we drafted him, but he is a seventh round pick. I'd just love to give him a shot to see what he can do in the slot.

When you do this kind of thing (righting something that had bad direction for years plus starting unproven players), you expect some rough seasons. One of the big problems we have is that we literally needed... well... everything. There never was much of a long-term plan in place before, and they are trying to make a long-term winner out of this team, not do the smoke-and-mirrors claims of greatness that lead to a fizzling season.
