View Full Version : Game Day Things That Made Me Go HMMMMM~~~~!!!

:D~~~This is just a light, fun thread so I hope it's okay I started it.
I went to the game yesterday, after not attending a game since the buses took people round trip from the metro almost to the front door of the stadium for $5 per person. So forgive/skip any point that has already been dicussed to death. :D
Is it normal for fans to leave all their trash at their seats? We carried ours up and threw it away after the game, but stepped over a ton of trash, cups and beer bottles. Just curious why fans can't throw their trash away??
We got to the stadium early. We had club level seats. Why did we have to continually have people check and mark our tickets with a black marker? Once the person at the bottom of the escalator and the person at the top of the escalator checked and marked them, why did 2 other security personnel have to check them before we could sit down? It's not like I could take them down and give them to someone else. They can only be scanned once.
When entering FedEx field, why are the sections closest to the parking lot, the visitor's side?
What happened to the waiter service in club level. I had it on my last visit, it is still listed as a benefit, but no one ever came around. Along that same line, no one ever came around selling beer, drinks, popcorn, peanuts, etc., however I could see them going up and down the aisles below us during most of the game.
I know I am showing my age, but does the music really have to be that loud? I could barely hear my husband talking to me.
Why is the field called FedEx field? I cannot remember the history about this. Does FedEx pay for that "honor" or do they own a portion of the building?
Do the suites have seats outside to watch the game or does everyone sit inside. I just noticed a few people crammed up to the windows and wondered about that?
The parking lot was full of trash bags from tailgaters. Is this common that you leave all your trash there and not take it home?
I thought they stopped selling alcohol after the 3rd quarter, so I was surprised to see a bar, with a long line, open after the game.
I love singing Hail to the Redskins after a score. I have never been to another stadium, do all the NFL teams have a fan song?
Is there a thread here that lists local hotels that offer shuttles to the games? I wasn't sure of the best way to get to the game since we didn't have a parking pass, and was pleasantly surprised to find our hotel offered the round trip shuttle for a minimum fee. The shuttle also made several trips depending on what time you wanted to get to the field.
And my most burning question of the day----we paid $650 for 2 seats, $9 - $12 for an alcoholic drink, $5 for a coke----but I wasn't allowed to have a straw unless I bought a milkshake----WTH????:silly: :silly:
Even with my few "hmmm moments", we had a great time at the game. The weather was beautiful, the Redskins played competitively, and all the fans in our section were nice and fun to share the game with. I look forward to returning next year. :logo:

As far as the trash thing people probably were so focused on the ending that they forgot about everything else when Cowboys kick went through. Redskin fans wanted to just leave to get away from the Cowboy douchebags.

Most other teams do not have a fight song. The only one I can think of off the top of my head is "Fly, Eagles, Fly" which is not really a very good fight song.
I'm correcting myself. It seems that most teams do have fight songs.

LOL. In all seriousness, it's one of those unique things, rightly or wrongly, that sports fans can get away with that you wouldn't in normal life. (Like cussing and shouting abuse at the opposition team like a docker.). Dropping your trash at your feet in the stadium. That's why they pay clean-up crews. It's a Universally accepted thang the World over.
Hail.

The Raven's one is the worst one I have ever heard. The Raven's fans hardly know it.

I'll try addressing some of these things.
I have no idea why they are checking tickets over and over again. I'm guessing that now that they have the SRO sections in the club, they are trying to keep the SRO riff-raff from entering the club seats. Are they checking tickets - and marking them - every time you go from the concourse to the club seat section?
Waiters - for at least 3 years (since I've been going regularly to games) the whole "waiter service in the club" section thing is complete and utter bull****. It simply doesn't exist. There is no waiter service in the club seats, and if there is, it would probably take you an hour to get your drinks or warm food because they have one waiter per section. They really need to stop advertising this "service" as it's nothing but pure fantasy.
Suites - the suites are not outdoors, but there are a few rows of seats by the window. I would assume every seat inside the suites has an unobstructed view but I've never been in there.
Bar - the club section is technically a private club, so the bars never close, even hours after the game is over. So the common folk can't get completely drunk after the 3rd quarter but in the club and suite level they can.
In 1999 Fed Ex signed a long-term lease for the "naming rights" for Jack Kent Cooke Stadium. It's a douchey move but everybody does it now...and again a sign that JKC had no idea what the hell he was doing when he didn't leave the team to his son. I'm sure he hoped the stadium would be a monument to his greatness for all time but he ruined that dream just like he did the team itself by letting it fall into Snyder's hands.
I hope this has been informative and addressed your most pressing concerns. Obviously your questions on ettiquete and straw dispensing are rhetorical.

Call it the "Peanut symptom", if you eat peanuts, you're going to throw the shells on the ground, because... well that's what you do... Now obviously if they have people that clean up the peanuts, they are probably paid to clean up beer bottles etc.
We got to the stadium early. We had club level seats. Why did we have to continually have people check and mark our tickets with a black marker? Once the person at the bottom of the escalator and the person at the top of the escalator checked and marked them, why did 2 other security personnel have to check them before we could sit down? The E-bay price is severely reduced if your ticket is not in mint or very fine condition, just in case this game became a classic and you wanted to resell it to someone who wanted to brag to their friends that "I was there, I have the ticket right here"
When entering FedEx field, why are the sections closest to the parking lot, the visitor's side?
I'm pretty sure the parking lot goes 360* around the stadium and so do the entrances.
I know I am showing my age, but does the music really have to be that loud? I could barely hear my husband talking to me.
Yes it does, if you read the preseason threads about not being able to hear the announcers, you'll see why, because FedEx isn't wired for volume adjustment, they replaced those wires with the HD wires during the revamp.
Why is the field called FedEx field? I cannot remember the history about this. Does FedEx pay for that "honor" or do they own a portion of the building?
Yes 30 years $100 million IIRC
Do the suites have seats outside to watch the game or does everyone sit inside. I just noticed a few people crammed up to the windows and wondered about that?
Everyone sits inside, because who wants to watch football when it's not room temperature?
The parking lot was full of trash bags from tailgaters. Is this common that you leave all your trash there and not take it home?
Those were actually full of cash, did you not look in any of them? Most people take one home, but I've seen others take 2
I thought they stopped selling alcohol after the 3rd quarter, so I was surprised to see a bar, with a long line, open after the game.
People who can afford club level seats can afford lawyers to get them out of DUI's
I love singing Hail to the Redskins after a score. I have never been to another stadium, do all the NFL teams have a fan song?
Yes, Philly's is probably the best:
You have the right to remain silent
Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law
You have the right to an attorney, if you cannot afford one, one will be appointed to you
Do you understand these rights as they were read?
And my most burning question of the day----we paid $650 for 2 seats, $9 - $12 for an alcoholic drink, $5 for a coke----but I wasn't allowed to have a straw unless I bought a milkshake----WTH????
Common known fact that you need to fasten a straw out of and empty cup, simply cut out the bottom, slice it down the side, and roll it tight, then use a string (or duct tape if you can smuggle it in) to make the former cup into a makeshift straw.

You failed on this due to your anti Snyder agenda. JKC had fully intended to sell naming rights to recoup some of the money he spent out of pocket to build the stadium.
FedEx got the naming rights because Fred Smith, founder of FedEx, is also a partial owner of the Skins.

Yeah, the Chicago Bears probably have the most famous fight song in the NFL. They wrote it after they beat the Redskins in the 1941 NFL Championship Game. :(

I know JKC talked to corporations about naming rights, but intended to sell naming rights might be a stretch.
He named it JKC stadium and named the surrounding grounds after his sons. Not sure there was evidence he would have sold the rights.

Why do people get so hung up on naming rights anyways?
Football's a business. And a multi-billion dollar, MASSIVE one at that. Stadiums don't come cheap. If some company's prepared to pay you ex-amount of millions of bucks to have their name on your stadium, you'd either be a brain dead owner, or a fan with absolutely zero business sense thinking with his head to turn it down.
The stadiums still the same stadium, whatever name it goes under.
Hail.

Thanks for all the replies. I really appreciate it.
Gibbs Hog Heaven, the tickets were in club level, section 321, row 1, seats 9 and 10; about the 48 yd line. My husband bought them from stubhub I believe for my birthday back in September. For the view we had, and the game we attended, those tickets were worth every penny. I would love to know the regular price though.

Oh, I forgot to say in my original thread that the only fan who was rude to us was an Eagles fan who was taunting us after the game in the parking lot. What a punk! We just ignored him and he hated that---he kept following us and screaming. We just laughed.
Seriously, how stupid. The Eagles weren't even playing and he was all decked out in his Eagle gear. What a maroon. :silly:

And you fail here because you don't provide me with any actual evidence to back up this wild claim.
Your failure would become a success if you do. If you can point me to some I'd appreciate it as this is interesting to me.
And as much as I loathe Snyder, this doesn't really have anything to do with him. Almost any other new owner in the league would have done the same thing. I believe that if JKC had kept the team in the family though, it might not have happened.

LS59 - the team lists those seats at $5550 each for the season.
Plus tax. :)
They mark the tix so you'd be less inclined to try to sneak somebody in. Example: Once you are both in the club, you could take your friend's ticket who is already in the club, go outside to the ramp area, toss your friend's ticket to your other friend on the ground, go back inside with your ticket, your friend could get in the stadium with a general ticket, then use your club ticket to access the club. See? But if it was marked, it would be more difficult to explain.
You're in the club section and they wouldn't give you a straw? That's just stupid. I'd complain. washingtonredskinsfans@redskins.com
No waiter service in the club? That doesn't make sense. Maybe you just didn't see them since you were in row 1. Complain: washingtonredskinsfans@redskins.com
Yes, the bars in the club are open in the 4th quarter.
The Redskins used to be the only team with a fight song. Now there are a few other teams, but they're all wannabes.

Go in and strike with Ravens pride

Hmm. Maybe I'm wrong then. But I remember when I was a kid, the Redskins were playing a big game - maybe the Cowboys, and I believe it was a nationally broadcast game. Maybe it was a playoff game. But I remember the opening on TV heard Hail To The Redskins played, and they put the lyrics on the screen and made a big deal about how the Redskins were the only team in the league with a fight song. Maybe I'm confused and they meant we were the only team with a marching band with a fight song? I don't know...

They checked the tickets at the bottom of the escalator...going up to the game, and when we got to the top, they were checked and marked again. What could have happened in those few steps for the extra check is beyond me.

I liked how that Seahawks fan came in posting about how Kam Chancellor was this great hard hitting tackler posting a few videos, then watching the guy whiff on Roy Helu on his way to a touchdown. I didn't want us to win but that was pretty funny given the circumstances surrounding it.
