Let’s face it boys and girls, London Fletcher is not getting any younger. While I wish I could sit back here and say with confidence that he will continue playing at his current level for the next three years (assuming the Redskins actually resign the guy), the truth is that is not realistic. Even in a perfect world where the Redskins do bring their captain back, the reality of the NFL is that the clock is ticking.
Now is the time for the Redskins to begin to groom a replacement that will make transitioning to a life without London a little easier.
Resident SOW Draft Guru Justin Partlow breaks down Cal linebacker Mychal Kendricks and asks if he can be the guy to lead this defense.
While undersized and sometimes overlooked, Mychal Kendricks is still seen as one of the better ILB prospects in the 2012 draft class. With a knack for making tackles and finding the football, Kendricks has proven to be a true leader for the Cal Defense. The question though for many will be can he stack up against the big time OL in the NFL? That question will be answered throughout this profile as I really like Kendricks and think for the Washington 3-4 D he’s a very good fit.

Really would love to hear the feedback on Kendricks as he's one of the few guys I really like in the 4th round range to become a starting ILB in our 3-4 scheme

I would love to pick him up in the 3rd round or so... Seems like his stock is rising though..

Great work as always Justin. The need for an ILB is clearly there but not great enough to spend a first or second day pick on it. We definitely need someone to play besides Riley in the long run and I love that Kendricks has experience in the 3-4. If he was to pan out our LBs would be set for the next decade.

His stock has risen from late round flyer to mid round pick. Honestly right now can't really see him rising more than from the 4th round.

Is he a team captain? That's what ShanAllen usually looks for.

He had his moments in the video but overall I would be concerned with his size.
He has good speed but he had a hard time get off down field blocks.
Also, when he got to the ball carrier or receiver in the second level he did not have the strength to lay a hit he just latched on until he got help with the take down.
He seems to have good pursuit and awareness, but he doesn't seem like a future starting caliber linebacker.
Granted not everyone comes out of college "pro ready" so If we drafted him in the 4th round or later, I would hope he can add bulk but not lose acceleration and lateral quickness

Pretty sure he was one and a senior who started 2 years for the Bears.

Would love that. Best case scenario: draft him and still keep London for another couple of seasons until he retires.

Which is what I'm advocating with him, resign 59 and then let Kendricks sit there and learn. My #1 option still is James-Michael Johnson from Nevada but Kendricks would be #2 in that mid round range

I would agree with this post. He regularly got swallowed up by o-lineman at the college level. I dont see him making it in the NFL.

I kinda like James Michael Johnson from Nevada as our London Jr., not that I would be upset with Mychal Kendricks or anything. It would be really something if Luke Kuechly somehow fell to our pick in the 2nd round, though I doubt that will happen, he looks to be London Fletcher incarnate.
I trust Shanahan knows more about ILBs than I do so I think we will make the right choice considering Perry Riley is pretty good in his own right.

James Michael Johnson is my #1 between the two. As for Kuechly its a lock he's going 1st round

Yea it seems 9 out of 10 mock drafts I see have the eagles taking Kuechly in the first round. He 6-3 big and fast.

This is true. He just set a career high in tackles last season. For all we know, the man is a mutant with powers like Wolverine which would explain how he hasn't missed a game to injury

He's the top LB in this class and is a lot like Brian Urlacher in how he plays. He'll be a fun one to watch in the NFL

Dunno why, but I love this quote, and I'm sigging it.
Thanks.
Edit::
I like this find. He had problems getting off blocks by DeCastro, but that's DeCastro, and he is a beast. He also, in this video, doesn't always seem to drive with his feet on the hits, just makes the initial contact and then tries to pull the guy down, but those should be things that Fletcher can teach him. He has great instincts, a good motor, and can really blow through the blocks on a pass rush.

If we get him, cool, but I've just about given up on guessing who Shanahan is going to draft. He has killed it the two years he has been here with prospects I have never even heard of.

Kendricks seems like a good prospect and we surely need some depth at that position, and someone to take over the reigns in the next few years

That's what stood out to me. 7th round pick if that.

I don't think it's possible to replace LF, but if you can get a guy who is hungry for the ball and fearless but smart, hopefully we can find that value late in the draft, or keep LF and draft high IBL next year

Totally agree my rationale on a guy like Kendricks or Johnson as a pick for us is that they could sit behind LF and then learn. Its pretty damn hard to replace a guy like London, but getting someone in the scheme let them develop might be one of the best moves. If it doesn't work out then you have solid depth and can go get another guy in the 1st or 2nd round when that time comes
