1920 X 1080 on a 23 inch widescreen monitor. While holding down the CTRL key, use your mouse wheel to zoom the page in so the website isn't so small.

No, I'm a web designer, it is my job know what people use so I can work the things I do to the majority.
A few months ago 1366x768 became the most popular res worldwide, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's the same in the states, and even local to me.
I'm working up some ideas to present to a client, so I figured to ask some real live computer users what they use, and so far it is bearing out to be true.
Mostly what I am seeing is the old standard of 1024x768 is all but dead.

don't you do some kind of web design?
so you can lull us into a false sense of security that you're just informally polling resolutions for your next design, and then BAM improperly format a website for the common screen resolution and leave us all squinting or scrolling for days on end.

Quite right! I'm trying to set my mark on the medium. I want to make a bold statement about the lightning progress of internet technology by declaring for the world that I do not need to work!
I will make a website so bad my client will never get a customer, thus insuring that I myself.. am also without customers! Yes, the parallel is obvious for all the world to see, and I will go down in history as being the greatest genius web designer who cannot pay his internet bill!

1440x900 and 1280x800. Both the monitor and the laptop could stand to be replaced.

2560x1600 on my monitor and my tv at 1980x1020
You stare at your monitor for hours a day, in a lot of cases. Specially if you're doing graphics I would think. Regardless of size you want to make sure you get IPS panel and not TN. Huge difference and the IPS panels are getting cheaper.

I don't remember the last time I've seen a monitor that low res used for web browsing. I'd think that an even lower percentage of those people actually make purchases.

I'm suprised to see so many are low, I figured the standard now is 1920x1080. It used to be 1280x1024 - 1280x720.

I agree with frostyj, I thought that was pretty standard these days.

I think 1920x1080 is probably fairly standard for enthusiasts, people who want to watch HD movies on their computer, etc.
It's not like Dell/HP are putting 24" monitors as the standard in their prebuilts, so it's not what the average Joe is using yet. (Or at least, they weren't doing that 2-4 years ago, and most people on here are not rocking new computers.)
For the record I'm on a 22" 1680x1050 and I love it.

1440x900 on this laptop (17 inch)
1900x1200 on my gaming PC (22 inch CRT) Just never updated it to a HD widescreen (nvidea video)
Max res depends on your video cards capabilities, this laptop is maxed out (built in graphics)

That is probably what I used to have, but I bought a new desk a couple of years back and the big bulky old school moniter just took up too much space.
It's nothing crazy just an Acer I caught on sale (can't remember if it was online or in a store though). I am pretty sure it was less than 200 bucks back then.

I like mine. It's a Toshiba that was Best Buy's Black Friday Doorbuster 3 years ago. I don't play a lot of games on it, so it works for me. Got it for $149, so I really have no business complaining.
