You get to work. You get your coffee. You settle into your chair. You scan the Tailgate. (Let's be honest, you don't IMMEDIATELY start working.) Nothing in particular catches your eye as far as thread topics go. But then....
You see in the "last post by" column, someone's screen name. You find yourself unable to resist the need to click the thread and see what that person had to say.
Who is he/she?

Conn, NCL and Jumbo (usually for comical reasons) in the Stadium. There are a few others too.
Probably a few other randoms, like Henry or Yusuf.
It occasionally depends on the topic.

Thiebear. His posts have gotten much more readable, though.
With Jumbo sometimes I don't think there is anything to understand. He's like a kid who was stuck in silent timeout all day and he gets on the bus and just says everything humanly possible.

Yeah I'll agree on Jumbo as well. Either its a first row viewing of someone being verbally eviscerated in the nicest way possible or some long rambling thing that I read anyway. China always has something interesting, and usually disgusting or bizarre, up his sleeve.
It also depends on the subject of the thread. If it is something I've been engaged in or am interested in as we have experts in many fields here and its always good to read what their take is on it. Predicto and LKB for Constitutional law stuff, for example. Or them just for the lulz.
Oh and any time Predicto and HH or twa are getting into it. That stuff I can't avoid. It's like a soap opera addiction.

Jumbo's. If it wasn't for the typos, I'd be convinced that he looks up complicated phrases on the Internet or out of books and cuts/pastes them into the middle of his missives just to give them a little extra kick.:ols:
I keep meaning to write on this matter in here (as someone who has written extensively in several venues) and often remind folks that I have all the keyboard skills of the typical soap dish. I edit a zillion times. Those long, serious (or as serious as I get here ;)) posts are really a labor and reflects my commitment to participation in this community. I am very active in the stadium too---definitely the most active staff member (most of the time) in both forums with PCS & zoony next. I also make far more short ones and funny ones than the other type, but people see what they want, usually in service to their own inner drives---the psychology is extremely strong in me :pfft:.
But I will admit, loving language as I do and being communications modes and theory are one of my specialties professionally, I do just have fun with it and sometimes use it like I play legos with my nieces (they're very creative and can get quite elaborate).
I think there is actually a lot more pretentiousness and hiding self-limitations in the "simplicity is wisdom" or "that's just wordy" stuff I often see some people toss about (whether in reference to me or in other matters). Every now and then, it's an accurate castigation. Most of the time I see it, here or elsewhere, it's not and its more about reflective of an issue in the commentator than their target.
I can be quite clear and simple and am just that on here quite often. But I rarely see evidence that the always-simple writer who yells "wordy" can show relevant complexity, detail, and meaningful naunce in their efforts. ;)
And ren is kinda right too, in her post. i do unwind a lot here, during almost every work day. Per the Mr. lonely song (loved it) zoony and TK have the best picture of my life overall of anyone on ES and they know the most about my schedule and all I do---it's almost like science fiction, i kid you not. And I even sleep too.
And I knew I'd need to add right way--which is why I hate such lists--and still sticking just with currently active regs
mistertim, DjTj (big time) SHF, PokerPacker, prosperity, SWFLskins...and I can't win so I'm quitting :ols:

I think that's why others whether departed on their own or with a lil help, find refuge on other boards where they can take their likemindedness to make each other all fell better about theirselves while trying to run him down for being more intelligent then they are, showing them that the issue is in their comprehension, but they're still to dim to even see that. :)

I like reading HH because I think he's one of the more honest people on here. He may not always have it right, but he'll definitely try like hell to get it right, even if it means listening to someone else, which is a skill few have. I believe HH tries to understand the other guy's opinion.
I like reading ASF because even though we're similar, there's a big difference in the faith dept., and I appreciate listening to the views of someone on that side of that fence who seems genuine and uses common sense..
I like theBlueFood because he's studying to be a journalist, and it's interesting to watch his thoughts develop along the issues.
I like Predicto, because I think he may be the smartest person on the board, even though Jumbo tries like hell. ;)
Predicto is a dyed in the wool lefty, and even though he hardly ever waivers from that position, typically his arguments come down with a ton of sense behind them, and not just ideological thinking. I give his opinions a lot of weight.
I like Destino, because for a long time I got him confused with Predicto, and some of it rubbed off, I guess.
I read Thinking Skins posts.. i may not always agree. but he is a sharp guy and he can provoke some good thought.
I like Navy Dave.
There. I said it. He may be way out in right field when it comes to politics, but he's a-ok everywhere else. And besides, this is supposed to be "who do you read if you see their name as having posted last" and you know if his name is up, everyone goes to see just what kind of trainwreck that it might be, right?
(I'm friends with him on facebook (I think .. it must be him. HAS to be. ) I don't think ANYONE lives so well. He's ALWAYS at the game. Nats game every other night, Redskins game every week, Wizards games, Caps games, he's there, and smiling like the cat. Hell, if there's ANY of you I'd suck up to so i could hang out for a week... well it's none of you godless immoral heathen libtards, i can tell you that. ;) ;)
I like LadySkinsFan, especially in certain topics when she steps in and sets some guy straight.... so to speak. I always get a kick out of that, especially with those who don't know her.
But in all honesty,, I like most all of you. And I read most all of what you've got to say in the topics that interest me. Some of you talk way over my head (Peter, I'm looking at you) but I try and keep up and maybe learn a thing or two.
And furthermore, Danny Smith must be fired.

In both the tailgate and stadium, Jumbo's posts are a highlight to me. I liked Mick, but he was one of the weirdest cats to ever post here---and I'm avoiding making a more clinical comment. :)
I keep trying to avoid mentioning people who are primarily stadium-dwelling or more "in the past" because it doesn't really fit the OP and the "listing of faves" would truly never be done. But I agree with everyone The Dane mentioned (and he's a psoter I like a lot) and i used to love GhostofNibbsMcPimpin in either main forum and the eagles fan who posted in all three forums but mainly in ATN (can't believe I can't think of his name) that TK used to mess with all the time and was a true ES mainstay for years. He had some serious struggles with booze that he was very open about here and I hope he's doing ok.
AJSkins was a guy really good to have gone, but he was an interesting and volatile specimen. I don't feel comfy with saying what I actually think of his cognitive state during his manifestation here. I do miss the original MassSkinsFan (so does TK) though I know zoony couldn't stand him half the time. :ols:
I am half-tempted, now that we're well into this kick, to examine the negative side in some thread about guys not missed at all (pretty much in my case either multiple rule-violators and *******s and also really brought the level of forum discussion way down) but there's no productive outcome in that direction. Though the mods talk about that sort of thing among themselves when it's relevant ;) (like when it's "going down").

As someone noted earlier (and the mods by default would have the best picture of this dynamic) some poster (or several) may mention how they miss so and so while many others will have an entirely different view on that member that they may not reveal every time the dude's brought up.
I would think it's kind of obvious why someone may mention some they miss randomly or in a thread like this, while people who "hated" the poster will just be quiet. On the PM, e-mail, reported posts, and user notes side (in addition to openly posted forum content), there is a lot more material available to staff to add to viewing such matters in a larger context (just as a matter of potential interest for anyone).

I do miss the original MassSkinsFan (so does TK) though I know zoony couldn't stand him half the time. :ols:
Meh, he wasn't bad, just a garden variety attention whore. ES never failed to scratch his itch. He could come on here and throw a pity party for himself and hundreds of strangers would feel sorry for him....other times he'd blatantly troll and hundreds would argue. But he always got what he wanted
Problem is, he had to keep pushing the envelope to keep h is act fresh. When he encroached on "I'm going to commit suicide" that was when we'd seen enough. He had to go at that point. People need to remember that this board is property of the Washington redskins.
Nothing personal though. Unlike most, I didn't find him interesting in the least. He was quite predictable, actually.
Oh and to answer the op I would say all of you. And I really mean it
Jumbo
July-11th-2012, 11:02 PM
Can't really disagree with that analysis, zoony. And this is all a reminder that no matter who we talk about, they come and go and (so far) the site goes on just fine. No one is really "irreplaceable" (except TK of course). :pfft:
Since i'm waxing nostalgic, it's been quite awhile since I've mentioned that zoony and I, with these same screen names, met on the internet way back before joining ES on the WaPo Redskins forum and traded posts regularly (there was a small but solid crew there, too).
That was the first, and only other site, I ever joined to post about the Redskins. I have mainly lived in the PAC NW (counting Alaska) and had met very few Redskins fans over many years.
When I came here, I dropped WaPo and have never posted on any other Redskins site, and never expect to do such. But no one should read more into that than I mean, it's "just me"; the way I am.

I think you should write a clinical journal article on the personality disorders manifested by people posting anonymously on internet message boards, and not just the crazies (although I bet they'd make some interesting case studies) but the "normal" posters as well. Some of my favorites:
Jumbo and Zoony, because they both have their own style of telling someone when they're being an ass. lol
HH, Predicto (especially when they're replyng to each other).
China, Bang, GACOLB, jpyaks3, any of the females (because it's interesting to see their perspective on things.)
(I could go on and on, but the more I list the more others might feel left off, so I'll stop here)
Yeah, we used to have an awesome bunch back on the Post boards too.
214 was practically a legend ... Shally too.
And we used to have an interesting guy on there sometimes called Joe McCain (I think) who was always 'entertaining' :).
A few of the folks from there have come by here and I see some post every so often.
I know Terpfan is around and Win4us.

Somebody like visonary I usually click after just to read about interesting things, but almost never reply. I do that a lot these days, with things I either don't know much about (economics mostly) or things I have a narrow view on (war, religion).

I'll say this much, I learn more here than I do pretty much anywhere else. I'll admit, I live in my own bubble, my life is family, friends, my kids, my dogs, and sports, with not much else involved. I almost never watch TV unless it's sports. Never watch the news, etc. I rarely have anything to say in political threads because I don't keep up to date on it, I have nothing to say in economics threads because despite getting A's in the class, some of the stuff discussed in here is way beyond anything I saw in the classroom. Rarely get involved in religious threads unless I have a question about something I don't understand. I only get my dander up when we're arguing the merits of vegetarianism (there are none;)) or it's something discussing border security or government information, since that's my field.Point is, there are a lot of you that annoy the bejeezus out of me:ols:, but I would miss almost everyone if they left. I feel like I learn eight new things everyday in the Tailgate just from reading other arguments and perspective.

Jumbo and Tarhog. Blade, just before he stopped posting, because I'd always think "****, what's happening now..." I'd say Henry, but I still hold a grudge for the one day ban (called an "adult time out" at the time) when I called someone a very bad name. Hmm, for the Stadium, Kdawg, CS26, jflow, hitman, moondog, SWFLSkins, NLC.
For the tailgate, SnyderShrugged, GibbsHogHeaven,CurseReversed,Hubbs, Predicto,China for his threads and Larry just for the eyeroll factor.
In both the tailgate and stadium, Jumbo's posts are a highlight to me. Half the time they're rather short and funny, and the other half of the time they're giant blocks of text encoded in obscure words. It's almost like another language. Either stands out from the crowd enough to gather attention, as this thread is proving..His posts that precede bans are usually my favorite, maybe I'm a bad person ;p
Yay!! I finally made the list!! LOL, There are way too many for me to name individually to be honest. So many awesome posters here!

Bang- when I want to hear someone ragging on Danny Smith
NLC- when I need him to say what I was going to say, but better
China- when I want to see something bizarre.
PokerPacker, MattFancy, Stevemcqueen1- when I want up to date Capitals, Orioles and Wizards news
Here's a guy that I argued with mercilously and then we became good internet friends. He took a break, then came back for a while, but now he's not around anymore.

Hard question, but I'd say Lombardi's Kid Brother. I also enjoy Corcaigh's, Bang's, Honorary Hog's, and GACOLB's posts. Each are genuinely hilarious. GACOLB always calls it like he sees it. LKB's are so persuasive he could probably convince me to join a suicide cult in less than 500 words.
I also like reading PeterMP's posts because they usually teach me something.
If it's about basketball and/or football, Samuels is a guy I always read. The guy knows as much about the sports as anyone I've ever met and he's a truth teller that never spins and I really respect that.
For basketball I go to Destino for the off beat/contrarian but well thought out perspective and I'll go to StillUnknown, Gatorbait, RonArtest15 and a few others to get my barometer properly set, they usually know what's what around the league. If I'm shooting the breeze about basketball in general, I like MLSKINS.
In the stadium I always read posts from gorebd82, The Tris, darrellgreenie, Imperium (The Robert Griffin Experience now), and Dukes. Similar interests and I have a ton of respect for what they have to say. I always read KDawg's football posts too.

Now as for the subject in the op,well the moderator thing comes in to play some times. See post by a member that's on the radar for a reason or 5,I tend to click on the thread to see if they've said something silly again. :) On the other side,I tend to gravitate towards vet members, especially those that are known for posting fairly well thought out replies. Those that are known for being very intelligent about the subject matter they are discussing. That is especially true in the Tailgate. I don't get in to the discussions like I used to many years ago for a variety of reasons, but I still like to read them. While it can be fairly predictable on who is going to post in many of the threads and the general tone and view point they will take, they can still be quite informative. If one can put one's political ideology aside for a few moments,(a very difficult task for some I know),one can learn something. And that for me,is what I tend to use the Tailgate forum for. It can be outstanding for that when it's at its best.

They know who they are, and I have a lot of love for all the people here that make this place what it is everyday.
Thanks ladies and gents.
Speaking of ladies, a special shout out for Candace...she was bold and brazen...and her new husband must have stolen her computer...haha. No idea what happened to her.
I'm kind of with you on this one. For the most part, I think everyone on here who posts bring something to the table. I am half-tempted, now that we're well into this kick, to examine the negative side in some thread about guys not missed at all (pretty much in my case either multiple rule-violators and *******s and also really brought the level of forum discussion way down) but there's no productive outcome in that direction. Are you familiar with the concept of a Tulpa? Basically partitioning your mind to create a persistent imaginary friend with a full personality and everything with whom you can hold a conversation. Someone on another forum I frequent has started the process of trying to create one. So far he said he's finally gotten to the point where he can hold a conversation and said he actually had an emotional reaction to something his tulpa said, but he doesn't have a visual manifestation yet.

Heck, it often takes me so long thinking over the concepts and arguments they pose that I need to take time out anyway. I will say their posts and other threads from this board have made me seem much more interesting to many of my friends. I mean who really wants to hear more about MS research or the gross things my kids have done today? That shtick only keeps me in the conversation for a minute or too. The sheer number of topics of conversation this board provides is endless.

For the record, while it's a hotly contested list for #2 on down with many players, when it comes to vile, psychotic, frothing-crazy, and downright sick, nelms :insane: wins hands down, mainly via his PM and e-mail stuff (even as psycho as his actual posting behavior and content was, it pales in comparison).
He wrote absolutely filthy-sick and threatening e-mails for years after his multiple violations led to a perma-boot. :)
It was so bad Art not only noted it, he actually apologized to me that I had to ever read it (the initial flurry) and deal with it. That's beyond big. :ols:
Fittingly, nelms had two main backers here, one was very well-known and the other was fairly well known, but I won't name them. Those two started about half the threads in the tailgate, day in day out, for quite awhile, on various topics but all from a certain extreme side politically speaking for a long time. Some smart vets here can probably make some good guesses. I always used to think that grouping was a great illustration of "being known by the company you keep." In fact, you make a "family tree" of those three and the branches would touch a number of other well-known deportees.
It also allows admiration for the many others who have a strong political leaning to one side or the other who represent their stances regularly here over the years without being constant *******s, sickos, whackos, trolls, or just idiots lowering the level of discourse on a constant basis (what TK calls "white noise" in the stadium, only it's often of a worse nature in the 'gate due to the topical material) and eventually piling up rule violations until they're booted for good. And some people can think (or pretend) that these folk aren't such things if they like, but I tend to be honest and accurate in assessment with myself and others. :)

I like reading MartinC's posts in the Stadium. Knowledgeable and patient and level headed. He often helps me find perspective when I get worked up.
I like reading Burgold and HH's posts in the tailgate. You can tell how truly decent each are just from their posts.
I thoroughly enjoy twa's relentless conservatism/polemics. The man has the thickest skin... and all that entails.
I'm more of a lurker in the political/cultural/scientific/historical threads in the tailgate. Sports are all I know enough to really hold up my end of a conversation most of the time, but I'm glad other people know things and I enjoy reading what other people have to say on the issues. Lots of well informed people post here, lots of insight to soak up. This may sound pathetic but I pretty much get all of my news from NPR and scanning the tailgate.

You have no idea how much I need that Wizards thread and the NBA thread to get me through the football offseason. If not for those threads, I would ES hibernate through the spring and summer.
Those threads are one of the only places to talk about basketball I have. Everyone in my social circle loves football. But no one in my circle even remotely cares about pro basketball.

I follow specific topics, not specific usernames. However, I do recognize the usernames and have formed some opinions about the people behind them. I learned a long time ago that online persona are just that, persona and they may or may not reflect a posters real thoughts. I enjoy reading everyone's posts, even if I sometimes get frustrated with someone's viewpoints as other most likely get frustrated with mine.
If I am interested in a thread, I usually read all the responses in it and follow it. If I lose interest in a thread then I stop reading/posting in it.
I also like to post in the Stadium and will take breaks from Tailgate to read/post in Stadium.
The mods do an excellent job and I commend them for their fairness and tenaciousness in keeping the rest of us following the rules, which are there to make a harmonious experience, much like societal rules. Tip o' the hat to the mods!

I thought of it because my 5-year old is still having some "wanting to sleep in mommy and daddy's bed" issues. Last weekend, she said she'd sleep in her own bed. I made her promise. She raised her little pinky and sealed the deal; and was true to her word, I might add.

LOL. In a season one episode of King of the Hill, when Kahn moves next door he goes over to meet the gang. And Hank just solemnly asks "so are ya Japanese or Chinese?" Then he goes on about how he's a dumb redneck and that he's from Laos and that it's a landlocked country blah blah. And Hank just replies: "...So are ya Japanese orrr Chinese?"
Great, now when I see H_H I'll think Hank Hill.

Okay, I don't watch King of the Hill so I looked on Wiki for info about Peggy. Here's what I found, which I find hilarious BTW!
Margaret "Peggy" J. Hill (voiced by Kathy Najimy) — Hank's wife, Peggy (née Platter), was born in Montana and raised on her family's cattle farm. Her strained relationship with her mother is a source of drama for her, which all comes to a head in an episode wherein she and the Hills go to Montana to help her mother's ailing farm. Peggy is now a substitute teacher in Arlen, Texas. She specializes in teaching Spanish. She believes she speaks the language fluently, but in actuality has a poor grasp of the language. She thinks carniceria (meat market) means carnival. Her poor grammar, syntax and pronunciation often makes native Spanish speakers think she is insulting them if they understand what she's saying at all. Peggy's knowledge and pronunciation of the language is feeble at best, and she refers to it with her Texas drawl as /ˌɛs.ˌpæn.ˈoʊl/ and pronounces por favor as /ˌpɔrfeɪˈvɔr/. At one point her poor Spanish-language skills cause international terrorist incidents in Mexico, Guatemala, and Peru. Despite her self-delusion that she speaks Spanish well, Peggy jumps at any chance to be a temporary sub for any other class at Tom Landry Middle School. Peggy is also a freelance newspaper columnist, notary public, an exemplary softball pitcher and a Boggle champion and has started a career in real estate. She has a habit of adding or changing ingredients to ordinary dishes then naming them after herself. "SpaPeggy & Meatballs" and "Apple Brown Peggy" are conspicuous examples. In a number of episodes, this gets her into trouble. Peggy is very self-conscious about her larger-than-normal feet (size 16 ½ on the left, 16 on the right). Peggy will often excitedly murmur "Ho, yeah!" when she completes a task well, and "Oh, Peggy!": a self-awarded compliment accompanied by a modest giggle after coming up with a phrase she finds especially clever. Peggy can be likeable and is a fairly good mother despite her foibles. She has been known to offer good advice to Luanne and Bobby—and even to Hank. Hank and she are very much in love with each other. They have eyes for no one else—although Peggy briefly contemplated adultery with the actor who stars as a secret-agent–priest in "Los Dias y Las Noches de Monsignor Martinez," a fictional Spanish-language TV series. Peggy occasionally has her classes watch this program as a homework assignment.
Some similarities: I do speak rudimentary HS Spanish and having lived in Miami you have to speak it to get along down there. My speaking vocabulary is atrocious but I can actually read Spanish better than I can speak it. I like to cook but don't make up names for dishes that incorporate my name. It would be hard to incorporate LadySkinsFan into a dish don't you think? ;) I do offer very good advice to my near and dear ones and even to some ESers! Quel surprise! I like to watch Spanish telenovellas. When I was in Miami I even watched the Brasillian ones as I was supporting the Brasillian branch of a major telecom company at the time. My family did have farms, on both sides and I want to have a small organic farm with some chickens.
Now for the dissimilarities: I have not now nor have I ever been a teacher in Texas, but my daughter SIL and granddaughter live there albeit in "liberal" Austin. I am not heterosexual but I played one on TV for a while. Oh wait, that wasn't on TV that was real life. I'm not from Montana but one of my GF's ex husbands was from Montana.
