The Caps came back from a lackluster effort against Atlanta to draw a tie in Toronto, 2-2.

Playing without Brendan Witt, the team’s best defenseman, the Caps were able to overcome a 2-1 deficit and go on to even things up in the third period. Overtime was scoreless.

In the third period and the overtime the Caps seemed to gain new life and almost closed out the game with a win, contrary to the reports I read in the WP that seemed to indicate the team escaped with its life

The players the Caps had targeted to move in the offseason have played well the first three games, more to the expectations the team had for them at this time last season.

Jagr and Lang have taken turns scoring key goals for the team and Peter Bondra is back to his familiar spot as the point man on the power play.

Kolzig had a particularly good game against the old nemesis Leafs, a team he has really struggled against in the past. In fact the Caps were 0-4 last year against a solid Toronto team.

The turn to younger players has helped energize the team, and contrary to the predictions of the experts may in the end help the team make it to the end of the season with some momentum for a change.

Eminger saved one goal last night and foiled another 2 on 2. Boyd Gordon scored in the first period and has 3 points in 3 games.

There are few expectations around the NHL for the Caps this year and that is usually a good sign as Washington has used that annonymity in the past to sneak into the Conference Championship in 1990 and 1998.

I am not saying this club is there yet, and rookies do tend to hit a wall at 40 games, but when the media starts identifying teams with youngsters to watch perhaps the Caps will make that top 5 list this time around.

I am every excited to see so many young players out there for our team...esepcially the young quick and hard hitting defensemen we have out there. I thought last nights tie was a pretty good effort considering we were out shot 31 to 15. The loss to Atlanta was expected considering the emotion that they are playing with(i.e. Snyders death) but that will peter out over the season (probably within 10-15 games,if that). We have a great team and I am especially interested in seeing Boyd Gordon some more I think he could be pretty darn good and I wouldn't mind seeing a cap win rookie of the year award.
