watching the passing cavalcade of news about the Orioles looking to add everyone from Ivan Rodriguez to Miguel Tejada and Vladimir Guerrero, one question comes to my mind: where is the starting pitching supposed to come from? :)
Hentgen is gone. The guy with the most wins coming back is Jason Johnson, just 10-10, with a plus 4.00 era.
Damian Moss, one of the players traded for Ponson, was just 1-5 with an era more than point higher than Sidney's.
Ainsworth, the other prospect coming back for Sidney, is coming off a major arm injury and surgery.
Who else has proven anything? DuBose, another young arm, was 3-6.
Riley earned just one major league win last season.
I am glad for the team that Lee Mazzili, the new manager, mentioned in an interview that the club needed to find some starting pitching as well
You would think that Mike Flanagan, a former Cy Young winner with the Birds, would be more interested in investing major dollars in rebuilding a pitching staff first as the Old Orioles did, filling in at other spots such as shortstop and catcher with solid guys up from the farm.
