Wow. If you got a Mazda, be happy here for a second.

My buddy was driving towards a road that usually has heavy traffic. It was late last night and it is monsoon season here as it's been raining no stop for the last 72 hours.

As he approched the intersection, the traffic lights had bent a bit out of whack. It actually looked to him as if it was green his way and red the other way. It was confusing, not convincing, but it he had not looked closely enough. He cruised right through the intersection going about 45 when a car coming fromthe right on this busy road he just turned onto plowed right into him on the front end. They estimated the car was going between 50-60 miles an hour.

Airbags deployed, the front end was virtually sheered off and my buddy and his girlfriend were fine. She has a broken hand and bruised ribs, while he has a bruised knee, screpes and bruises on his face from hitting a few flying objects that were in his car.

Talk about luck and great safety features on that car. After seeing the damage last night, like I said, the front end looked as if someone just sliced the top of it off like a block of cheese. While the airbags deployed in the car, you can notice that there was no damage to the interior or to the sides of the car on the outside. You know how some cars' panels are form fit to other parts so if the impact is in the front, it can still damge other parts of the car, or not buffer the shock of impact.

Anyways, I ain't no engineer, but I was pretty amazed that they walked away fairly unscathed from a pretty bad wreck.

The other people were fine too at first sight, but they were takent o the hospital as a precautionary measure. Hope they are ok, but this is gonna mess my buddy up. He knows it is his fault and the recourse that will occur is going to be harsh likely.

But at least no one was hurt or worse.

Still, Zoom Zoom Zoom is pretty sick and tough if you ask me. :)

It is amazing the safety that is being engineered into cars today.
Ford/Mazda has been using a crush management system for
several years to keep the passenger compartment intact.

The 2005 Ford 500 and Freestyle will have even greater safety engineered into the structure. Ford enlisted the help of Volvo in designing these vehicles.

Are you sure about that? If the conditions were as bad as you suggest, then it was not his fault. The poor weather and especially the twisted traffic light mean it was no ones fault.
