I've felt a slight pain when standing up for about the past 3 months in my pelvic area (femoral hernia is what im guessing) but I haven't really paid much attention to it, thinking it would go away..so I do a search on it today looking at diagrams and sure enough the femoral hernia is located right where I am feeling the pain..now my thing is..I have prom coming up in 2 weeks so I don't want to go through with the surgery it requires till afterwards..my main question is..do they put you to sleep during the surgery or do they just put the anesthesia(sp) in the designated area and operate from there? with me still awake not feeling a thing..?

Dude, SEE A DOCTOR. Do you have a lump? Do you experience pretty bad pain when bending or lifting? It may not be a hernia, in which case you're fine. But the doc will know immediately, without testing. He may be able to push it back manually. But if you leave it alone, it could get trapped or twisted, which puts you in a world of pain.

YEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOUCH

I have been through such a runaround with pain of the type you describe. Thought my left hip was dislocating or pinching a nerve when I would stand up. Doctor visits.............possable hernia Go see specialist......no hernia. Go to orthropedic specialest................X-rays........MRI..........Ultra sound, and he tells me I have a hernia on the left, and possablly the right also. Go to a different specialest, and he tells me I don't have any hernia:doh:

Back to orthropedist..........and he then tells me it must be a symptom of the 3 bulging discs I have in my lower back.

It doesn't happen often anymore, being I don't work sitting on a mechanics stool which are very low leaving your hips lower then your knees.

When it does happen, the pain can still put me to the ground.

I've given up at this point. Like they say.......what doesn't kill ya makes ya stronger.

I'm pretty sure they will use a general (knock ya out) on ya for sergury if you need it. They wouldn't let me watch when they scoped my shoulder. I was pretty pizzed, but then the drugs they gave me kicked in and I just laid back and enjoyed the buzzzzzzzz till they knocked me out............now count backwards from 100.............100.....99.......9999994.......... ....33...........see ya;)

yep dude,

see a doc. i do anesthesia, and hernias everyday. it is the most common procedure done. you will not be able to recover in time for your prom though. no lifting at all. some hernias are done with simple sedation, most are done with general anesthesia meaning you will be put to sleep. just see a doc, he or she will know. good luck.

Pete--have you tried seeing a physiotherapist? They tend to be better with soft-tissue stuff than doctors (when it comes to treating pain).

Hey Pete interesting you mention lower back problems, my lower back has been giving me problems lately..maybe they are related? And no..Im not getting my surgery done till after prom, it is only 2 weeks away, I figure if I've lived with the pain for the past 3-4 months I can live with it for another 14 days or so. It isn't excruciating pain, it is just a little pain to let me know there is something up, I tried feeling for a bump of some kind there and I couldn't feel one..granted it feels a little different..but hmm I don't know what to make of it..but I will go see the doctor later this week.

Naw man, thing is im not 100 percent positive I have a hernia? Would a hernia be hurting me all the time? caus what I have doesn't really hurt..and the other night when I was over at my prom dates house..we were hookin up on her couch and everything seemed just fine, so im sure things will be just fine on Prom night..I just don't want to get surgery and then have stitches around that area..caus that would suck!

i would get it check out. i got shot by a .22 in my leg and i didn't know it. i had pain leg but i never bothered to look at it (not even while showering). anyways my masseuse (sp?) noticed it and she probably saved my leg.

War... if the pain isn't debilitating... get a diagnosis... suck it up for two weeks until after the prom... than get it taken care of at once. Within the two weeks, keep cool... lay low... don't place yourself in positions that would make it worse.

Think on the bright side. Tell your prom date you're in excruciating pain yet you just couldn't bare to let her down and skip the prom. You never know... maybe she'll suggest something that makes you feel better. :)

You own the Redskins AND do anesthesia and hernias everyday? No wonder we have had front office problems...:D

My lower back has been f*ckin annoying me. I dunno whether it is my bed, the workout I do or surfing. But it's damn annoying....
