KOTOR 2: The Sith Lords Details
Contributed by nekrosoft13 on 24 Apr 2004 - 18:14 | 31 comments

According to gaming website GameFront.de, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 (also known as KOTOR 2: The Sith Lords) will be released in Feb 2005. Here are more details (translated by RPGDot.com):

The game is set five years after the events in the original game. You are a Jedi outcast who returns to the Republic which is in a shattered state after the Revan Malak war. The Jedi Order is hiding in the Jedi temple ruins on Dantooine.

Revan and HK-47 are going to be part of the game again. Revan will not be a playable character. Ebon Hawk is going to return as well just as other characters from the previous game. Further details have yet to be revealed.

There will be no savegame import from the original game. The game engine is the same that was used for the prequel.

There is going to be a new Jedi "Prestige" class. The existing ones (Guardian, Soldier etc) will be there as well.

The subtitle of the game is supposed to be 'The Sith Lords'.

Anticipated release date: February 2005 (US version)

I never played these games.

What is it? Sounds fun but sometimes these type of games can be lame.

Knights of the Old Republic was the best video game I've ever played. It's a role playing game set in the Star Wars universe 5 thousand years before any of the movies took place.

The storyline was brilliant, I was totally addicted when the game came out, I beat the game in 4 days for a total of 40 hours. The game changes based on the decisions you make, you basically do what you want.
I played it 2 times through and it was very different. Things change based on the characters you choose to travel with as well.
If you like RPG's, its one of the best. If not, at least rent it one day.

KOTOR won Game of the Year from many different sources including TechTv.

wait, so its not actually fighting?

Do you get to create your own Jedi character? Then you basically make choices like what weapon to use and it fights for you?

I played Final Fantasy a bunch until like 5 or 6 years ago when I got all into the sports games. Now its all Madden, March Madness and NBA Live.

You create your character, you choose how to "power them up" etc... You make all the decisions for yourself and your party. You travel with up to 9 other characters, you can go out in groups of 3. There are a bunch of different planets that you travel to etc..

You control your fighting, but not blow by blow. You decide how you want to attack and the cpu carries it out, the character performs based on how you have powered them up. I like it because it's very realistic. The action is very very fast, you can actually pause the action if you want in order to set up the choices you want to make. You can rotate players and make their choices too or set scripts up so that they fight in the manner you want them to.

I got the game for easter and between work and school I have been playing it as much as I can. I am pretty close to the end of the game and I can't wait for the next one. The storyline sounds pretty cool.

The story is the best part... It had me hooked. I won't spoil it for you, but it is the best video game story I've ever seen. Could have been a cool movie in it's own right.

One bad thing about the new one is it's going to be a new game designer.

But similar concepts. Just a few years after the first KOTOR.

There's a big write up in One of the Gaming magazines I picked up.

It looks pretty good, but they're still a ways away.

They say you'll be fighting multiple Sith Lords in this one (hence the plural lords) and will have to work harder to 'earn your lightsaber'. Also more talk of utilizing more weapons/moves, as it does get repetitive at the end.

Should be similar in concept and play, just a new story. Which will be sweet.

I'll definitely be picking up the sequel. Too bad Bioware isn't working on it anymore, that kind of worries me.

Hey Code, sort of off topic but did you ever play Morrow Wind, and if so what type of RPG is it? One where you control your fighting like lets say Zelda Ocenaria of Time, or like Final Fantasy where you choose to block, use magic, or attack just standing there (I hate those RPG's).

I played Morrow Wind for one day and hated it, BUT, I know a lot of people that loved it.
It was a first person sword fighting game, which I thought sucked.

If you play games on your PC, try Neverwinter Nights by Bioware, it is really cool. It's an RPG but great story. Bioware really puts the time in where it counts.

If you don't like RPG's, you may like MorrowWind, but It just wasn't for me. If I'm going to control the action in a sword fighting type game, it should at least be third person.

BTW, if you like the style of play like Zelda, keep your eyes open for "Fable". It's going to have an awsome story and if you play it again, it won't ever be the same. I'm really pumped for it.

Yeah I remember asking you about Fable in another thread a couple weeks back I am actually pretty pumped for that game as well.

Yeah, Fable sounds similar to Zelda in gameplay but with out the cartoonish graphics (not that that's a bad thing) and themes.

I never tried to play that game. I was a big fan of the Jedi Outcast series. Typical video game where you are in first person mode like any other game other than sprots games....

I like Hitman too, can't wait to get my hands on the new one, Max Payne, GTA and I am dying to play that Red Dead Revolver game. I think it's already out. Problem is, I want all these new games for PC, not PS2. I just am used to gaming on the PC now.....

Oh I also loved Medal of Honor. Got Desert Storm II, kinda cool with the interaction between your batallion, but I just never caught on to the RPG's. Age of Empires was about the only one I coulod do. I tried battlefield 1942, but couldn't understand it either....

I love RPG games. I think I will try Knights of the Old Republic. Thanks Code.
I play old RPG games most of the time. Playstation ones. I have Wild Arms 3 for PS2, but I always go back to the older games.

You could fight in third person in Morrowind, but it sucked either way. The fighting engine was crap, yet the amount of freedom given to you was the best thing about it. You could literally do whatever you wanted.

You could kill a guy, take his clothes, hide his body, and then walk along like nothing ever happened. Yet if a solider or knight catch in the act, you're in deep trouble.

The stories were pretty weak, so all I did was the weak fighting engine to make my character really, really strong. I then went from town to town, killing everybody. All the citizens, the guild members, even the authorities.

Although KOTOR had alot of freedom and was a better game by far, I sometimes wish it had that much freedom. So I could dedicate one game to becoming a one-man killing machine. Yeah, I know I'm sick. :D

Keep me updated how you like it.
Also, after you complete the first planet, Taris, the game picks it up big time... Not that Taris isn't fun, it really is, but you get you lightsaber after that...:D

Oh another question, I have been meaning to play Medal of Honor (with what I assume is Normandy on the front)..is that a rent game or buy game? Oh and for anyone that owns Ninja Gaiden..is it a pretty big world you get to walk around in..with a good amount of freedom?

WM_Marylander

Ninja Gaiden's pretty linear, but there's lots of running around over one big city. Little side things you can go explore. But... for the most part pretty structured.

The world/levels itself are gigantic. Though, like I said, you're a little guided.

Code, told you it was coming out!

What's funny is that there was an April Fool's Joke that nailed the title of the game(except it had a singular Lord instead of LordS)

Medal of Honor is OK, excellent game to rent. It's worth playing just for the D Day level. IMO, it got old after a while. You are not very free in the game, you have to follow the path set forth.

Obsidian are the same guys who made Fallout, Icewind Dale and Planescape, so Sith Lords should live up to its predecessor.

I can't wait to try out the Presitge Classes.

This game, by far, is the best RPG I have ever played. I beat the game twice. I never did that with any other RPG, even the final fantasy's. I can't wait for this one to come out.

Also, Code.

Bioware is making another RPG, coming out this year. It's called Jade Empire. Looks really good, you should check that one out.

I have been following it on Bioware's website... I think Ghost or someone else mentioned it a while back and I took a look at it then.
You are right though, it looks smoking. I really can't wait for it.

I dont even like RPG's that much. I was addicted to Final Fantasy 7 for like 2 years, after that, the other FFs didnt impress me much. Until KOTOR.......... Its the best RPG since FF7 and 2nd best RPG on my best ever list...............
