With Joey back with the club and Roberts playing so well at second and at the leadoff position. Joey looks to take the DH spot and bat ninth but for how long? Does Joey get traded? or will Roberts be traded. All of a sudden the Orioles have a major dilema on their hands becuase not only do you have 2 quality second baseman but your taking the bat out of a hot hitting surhoff at the DH position.
I think Joey should be traded for pitching someone that can get allot of innings to help rest the tired bulpen. I hate to trade the guy because he can become a very productive player and has great range at second but Roberts is playing to good and has flourished in his role.

I would agree that if we could get good value for JERRY HAIRSTON then he is expendable. I like Roberts better anyway.

Hairston is so injury prone and Roberts is breaking out. If they can get a solid mid-rotation starting pitcher, then take it.

Trade Hairston to LA for Odalis Perez. Our bullpen can't take the workload they've been getting recently. Sooner or later they're going to tire out, and thats when the losses start piling up.

A solid pitcher would be great. I like Hairston but his injuries have been frustrating.

i have never been a hariston fan, and have like roberts from the first series i saw him play in (i think it was against the yanks last year).
hariston better get used to sitting on the bench (not as a DH though), or being on another team. if we could get a #3 starter for him i would be stoked! don't think he's enough to get Odalis Perez though. wish he was.

Any halfway decent starting pitcher would be great, otherwise help in the bullpen or even a prospect. I would prefer the help now, because they seem to just keep going along pretty well, but the bullpen will wear out sooner than later.

Hairston Jr is a solid player but coming off this injury his value has got to be minimal. I dont think even the Dodgers would have a need for him. It was rumored that Boston and NY were looking at him prior to the injury. I would look to see the O's trade away one of their outfielders or extra 1st baseman before they deal Hairston or Roberts. Dodgers have a more definate need for a productive outfielder like Gibbons.
I like the idea of having the DH role filled with a high on base % player with speed. Set the table for MVP Tejada.:)

set the tables for Tejada... what do you think Roberts and Mora are doing?
Roberts:
considering he started 0-15, this is pretty impressive...
.315 BA, 26 runs (7th in AL), 15 stolen bases (1st in AL)
Mora:
.372 BA (2nd in AL), .455 OB% (2nd in AL), 28 runs (3rd in AL)
that is solid production from the 1-2 spots in the lineup.... Hairston would not be able to help us any more than these two are already.

There has been a lot of talk on baseball sites about Hairston being traded for a starting pitcher...I am all for this...we let hairston bat 9th for a bit to get his batting back in touch and then trade him off...we don't need to have him around causing Roberts to look over his shoulder.......we should do okay when we trade him for a starting pitcher or a good prospect...

Also what is amazing about the Orioles this year is that they are hitting extremely well...they have 3 players in the top 18 in hitting......they haven't been hitting a lot of home runs either but have been scoring a lot of runs...the home runs will come so basically we will be scoring a lot more runs soon enough......we have 4 players with 20+ rbi and 7 with 4+ home runs.....additionally javy has 18 rbi and will probably get two more tonight......

Right so whats wrong with Hairston "setting the table" from the 9 spot until Roberts cools down? Obviously the birds are one of the best hitting teams in baseball but having quality depth just in case Roberts doesn't continue this "career season" is reassuring.
At DH the O's are using Cust, Surhoff, Segui, if they trade Gibbons for pitching then plug Surhoff into RF we would get a better prospect pitcher than trading away an injured 2b IMO.

I see Roberts turning into a Derek Jeter type player.......similar stats at least......

i don't see roberts having Jeter type power, but he could hit for average, score a lot of runs, and have A LOT MORE steals.
as for Hairston at #9: i don't want the whole 2B debate to heat up again. i'll take Surhoff as my DH any day of the week.
and we can't trade Gibbons. the kid is good and will keep improving. he had a tough start this year, not getting any protection, just like last season. i really wish they would bat him inbetween tejada and lopez, dropping Raffy...

Jay didn't have any protection last year and still hit something like .275 with 27 HR. I think Jay is just in a slump right now. Maybe he quit using steroids this year.
I don't think the DH has to be a big, lumbering giant who clogs up the bases. I say, put Hairston at DH, and continue to let the rotation develop. It's next year that the Orioles contend. Just because the Orioles are doin well one month into the year doesn't mean we should lose sight of the long-term plan.

Hairston has the better upside then Roberts. Before he got injured wasn't he leading the league in hitting last year? This is a tough one but I am glad the O's now have a competent FO to make the right decisions. We need pitching, 15-0 last night was bad

The only chance that Gibbons will be traded is if it involves a #2 starter, or part of a package of players to KC for Beltran (assuming we have Beltran sign a contract before the trade goes through.)
