>>>New Cuts Featured On Van Halen's 'Best'
Van Halen has recorded three new songs for inclusion on "The Very Best of Van Halen," expected to come out later this summer via Warner Music Group. The cuts "It's About Time," "Up for Breakfast" and "Learning To See" feature vocalist Sammy Hagar, who is rejoining the group for the first time in eight years.
The double-disc "Very Best" picks up the Van Halen story with the iconic "Eruption" from the group's self-titled 1978 debut. Every major hit is present, from the David Lee Roth-era smashes "Jump," "Panama," "I'll Wait" and "(Oh) Pretty Woman" to such Hagar-associated material as "When It's Love," "Why Can't This Be Love" and "Finish What Ya Started."
Also featured are live versions of "Ain't Talking 'Bout Love," "Jump" and "Panama" from the 1993 concert set "Right Here, Right Now." Notably excluded are any songs from Van Halen's latest studio album, 1998's "Van Halen III," the lone release to feature former Extreme vocalist Gary Cherone.
Van Halen's first tour since 1998 will kick off June 11 in Greensboro, N.C. Manager Irving Azoff recently told Billboard the trek will ultimately consist of four legs of 22 shows each.
According to a spokesperson, the album's running order has not yet been finalized, contrary to the track list posted on Van Halen's official Web site.<<<

Here is the complete listing of tracks from their official site www.van-halen.com :
Eruption, When It's Love, Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love, Finish What Ya Started, You Really Got Me, Feels So Good, Jamie's Cryin', Black and Blue, Runnin' With the Devil, Poundcake, Beautiful Girls, Runaround, Dance the Night Away, Right Now, And the Cradle Will Rock..., Top of the World, Everybody Wants Some!!, Can't Stop Lovin' You, Unchained, Not Enough, Dancing In the Street, (Oh) Pretty Woman, Panama, Jump, I'll Wait, Hot For Teacher, It's About Time (NEW!), Learning To See (NEW!), Up For Breakfast (NEW!), Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love (Live), Jump (Live), Panama (Live), Why Can't This Be Love, Dreams, Best of Both Worlds, Love Walks In
As a lifelong VH fan I'm very disappointed and somewhat critical of this album. I understand that you want to release something to coincide with the tour, but putting 13 songs (if I'm not mistaken) that appeared on their first 'Best Of' package is laughable. This is clearly a sad attempt at a cash grab plain and simple.
Nobody really cares about 'Best Of' packages in the first place so if you are going to release another one, at least stick to material that didn't appear on the first 'Best Of' album. I don't need three different albums with the original version of "Jump" on it for instance. My copy of 1984 will suffice I think.
And what is up with putting live versions of "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love", "Panama" and "Jump" on the album with Hagar on vocals? In my mind, this is a huge slap in the face to David Lee Roth and his important contributions to the band.
Sorry, but I'll download the new tunes and pass on buying this album. Van Halen already collected enough money from me when I bought overpriced concert tickets to two of their shows.

ANOTHER greatest-hits CD while I'm still waiting on Best of... Vol. 2? What's up with that?

I think Best of Vol 2, has been canceled and replaced with this new comp. Most bands have had double-cd hits packages released the last few years.
The track listing on the website isn't the final version, according to the Billboard article.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? In order to get the rest of the "greatest hits," I now have to buy a double CD that mostly duplicates what I already have in the first best-of album (which is, by definition, made up of duplicates already)?
I'm definitely taking my money elsewhere. Any new Darkness tracks out? :)

I'm a life-long Van Halen fan too. I don't think this disc(s) looks all that bad, all the tracks will probably be remastered also. I'm also excited to hear the new stuff. I have no problem with them putting the Sammy Live versions on the album either, I think the three picked are pretty good versions actually. RCH, I'm not sure I understand your hostility bro. I'm just excited to have my favorite band back again.

Skinsfan75,
Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to have my favourite band back again as well. However, I'm at the point now where I'm not going to support anything Van Halen does simply due to the fact that they are Van Halen. Leaving fans in the dark during their long hiatus was disrespectful and something that I'm not soon to forget. That's where my problems stem from. I think the band is pretty fortunate due to the fact that people actually still care about them and are still interested in what they are doing.

Ok, I hear ya, but my opinions differ a little though, especially on the "disrespecting the fans" notion. I know your not the only one who feels this way, I've seen this in many a VH thread on VHlinks.com, and others. Not to say your this bad, but it bugs the crap out of me, when people take this "you forgot to ask me for permission" approach to their bands. I figure it like this, if you bought the albums, great thank you. However, as the artist, I don't need to ask you for permission to take a crap, or which way you want me to wipe my a** when I'm done. I mean, I definately agree that Van Halen kept people in the dark to long, but I don't know, I just get irritated with people who take the fan thing to far. I mean when you look over the last several years with VH, consider the timeline since 96. Dave rejoins, Sammy Quits. Turns out Dave was never really back, Dave's out again. Gary Cherone joins, one horrible album later, (great tour though) Gary Quits. Dave supposedly comes back to try it again, for a long time this goes unconfirmed, but rumours abound. (Dave later confirms that he did indeed work with Van Halen in 2000, Van Halen never confirmed this) Eddie learns he has cancer, gets treatment. Eddie announces he's free of cancer. Eddie and Valerie's marriage breaks up. Eddie's single again. Sammy calls Alex. They reconcile. Eddie Calls Sammy. They reconcile. Michael Anthony and the brothers reconcile. (still not sure if there was a problem here) They decide to get back together. If you look back, that's a hell of a lot of drama in just a few years. I really don't believe they are doing this for the money. For me personally, I don't really think that their ticket prices were all that bad either. Me and my bud got 20 rows from the stage at Hershey for $100 a pop. I mean, that's pratically right on top of the stage. I really believed for a while they were through. I won't lie, hardly a week went by since 96 that I didn't check the VH News Desk, or the official site for a shread of information, anything. Like I said, I'm thrilled to have em back, and ain't nothing gonna spoil it for me. I think when you see em live again, your gonna forget all about your issues with em too, and remember why you love Van Halen. It's 5150 TIME!!!!

I own everything that Van Halen ever recorded, including some bootlegs, but this smells of Clear Channel bullsh!t.
